It's easy to say.
EA sucks.
They have only managed to make one good soccer game between 95-01. One good game in 6 years... One good game in even more than 6 attempts (OK, WC98 and RTWC98 are good but they are almost the same game so...)!!! Can someone please tell me once and for all why they should be able to make a good game now? Cause I don't think they will. I think they will give us the same old crap as usual. And we will, as usual, go out and buy that crap. Just because EA has the reputation it has, known as the leading sports-simulation makers we hope, year after year that they will give us something better. Why can't we all do as people did in the good old days before EA and others started coming with new versions every year just to earn money. Just play the game that is the best one! If everyone went back to playing old games, or other soccer sims EA would start selling less... I think this is the only way that they could get the thumbs out of their asses and start making some difference.
But it won't happen this year either. EA just has a too good reputation.

yeah you have a point there, but I've been praying to God almighty alot lately :D ;) , maybe they will release a good game, especially since their consumers have been more and more pissed at them the last 2-3 years, so they probably (if they have any brains) know what is expected of them.. . ;)

Hey,

To tell you the truth EA has made a mockery of FIFA after RTWC 98. They made some script **** based on NHL. While NHL, NBA and Triple Play are great FIFA has sucked. Maybe the production house needs to change. EA Canada is great and have made awesome games. I think FIFA is better suited to a euro producer, which is the case with 2002. To tell you the truth, i never bought any fifa game after RTWC 98 simply coz gameplay sucked. Why not make a game based on that code. It was awesome and will be. EA doesnt deserve to be given the sales its gets on FIFA, I suggest go WArEz till they get it right.

BUY ALL EA GAMES BUT GET FIFA WAREZ :P :D ;)

Can't stop the rush...

I agree, I think EA have the resources to make a great game, especially in the soccer department, but by pure reputation on their sports sims they are up there.

It is really dissapointing with all the potential they have to make a great game. They seem to do ok with the American sports "Basketball, Hockey etc, but as for world wide sports, like soccer and Forumla 1, their games have been quite average as to what we would hope. Even their cricket games have been very poor. They have the resources to do alot better.

simply, everyone buys fifa soccer, cause it really is the only playable Football sim around, that you actually play. I mean I like Champ Manager, but then there are times i like to get right in the action too. There are no other good ones on the market, atleast any that are as good as Fifa, and when I say as good it is said with reservation. Especially on PC, there are no games that come close in this day and age, as opposed to years ago, there were many titles vying for the top, but now they have all seemed to have dropped away when it comes to making football games, they seem to have given up?.

I think EA must head a warning when we fans say the reason Fifa is so popular, is because there is little choice elsewhere with other titles. The day someone makes a superior title, is the day EA will realise they do not have an almighty soccer gaming that satisifies a large market. On Fifa The fact that the number of teams in the game are limited, the amount you can edit is limited, not being able to add your own teams, and the gameplay, are all things that rapidly need improving. Once another rival addresses these issues, and makes a superior title, i'm sure many more people will find EA not so "great".

For pure gameplay, options and number of teams, give me Sensible World of Soccer anyday, even if the graphics are spectacular, and even if it's well out dated now, and it sits in my room as only fond memories and stands as a shrine to soccer games, it's still the best ever in my opinion, for pure football enjoyment.

That's my thoughts anyway

@ FIFA RTWC Webmaster,

you speak what most Fifa-Gamers think man, me too.
They gave us some graphic updates the last years, fixed some bugs in gameplay, but put even bigger bugs in it.
2001 is the worse gameplay of any soccergame ever released. Its absolutely boring and worse thing about that is, that we cant change it by ourselves.
We gave the the original jerseys, build the best stadiums and even created our own sounds to show EA what football should be, but we have to live with this suckin gameplay that has nothing to do with real football.

Reading about their plans of an Online-Football game that will cost 10$ a month I knew they start diggin their own hole :D
Wake up EA !

I hope that UEFA challenge and other games will be better, so that EA finally will be forced to create a real football simulation.

Otherwise me and many others will join The FIFA RTWC Webmaster and go back to good old 98 or to other games.

FOOTBALL rulez ! with or without EA !

well, to be frank, i think all the fifa series are almost the same thing... it will only take me 1 week or so to master every single series that they put out.... they only change some of the graphics and a little bit of gameplay but overall, there is still a lot of loop hole for pple to beat the crap out of the game...

The FIFA RTWC Webmaster
06-06-2001, 02:42:PM
I know most people that, like me, has been around for a while feels the exact same way I do. But as you say too, you still go and buy the next game and the next and the next after that... Hoping that this one will be "THE ONE!".
EA are satisfied as long as they sell much.
OK, we got the larger pitch and some other things we wanted, but I don't feel that this is enough. To make them really put an effort in to the next game there has to be economic interests in it. If there was to come another title that would steal ground from EA I bet we would see results right away. People from EA would directly even start running around these forums to get info on what we, the consumers wants.
One thing that I don't understand and that really disappoints me however is why they had to f**k up something that was the best soccer game ever made for PC (and still is). First came FIFA96 that was an incredible game for its time with great movement for the players and a great leap from earlier soccer games, then came FIFA97 that was actually a quite crappy game when it comes to gameplay (BUT IT HAD REALISTIC TOP SCORERS!!!!) but the graphics improved. Then suddenly, the leap between 97 and 98 was enormous. FIFA RTWC 98 featured WC qualifiers, leagues, but most of all, gameplay and graphics like no other game ever earlier! The gameplay of FIFA98 has still not been overcome by any soccer game on PC, which is kind of tragic since it was released in 1997... 4 years ago... FIFA98 can still be played and enjoyed just like a new game thanks to the FEd98/JEd98 editor by Chau Le that helps us FIFA98 fans to update the game. After FIFA98 came WC98, a game that was actually the same game as FIFA98, but slightly edited. An improvement... But then, what happened? Instead of building on the great game they had, EA made a completely new game... A totally new game engine and since that day, the FIFA series has been PURE crap, actually the only thing they have been able to make better are the graphics.
Look at EIDOS and Championship Manager. What do you think would happen if they decided to throw away their whole concept and give us a totally new game? No, they live by the rule, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. They manage to come up with a better game each year and they listen to the fans when it comes to what they should improve. EA really should learn from the makers of CM...
My dream is that EA would go back to the game engine of FIFA98, tune it a little, update the graphics to make it look like a game from year 2001, throw in some new competitons like playing EURO2000, WorldCup, Qualifiers and all that and why not even classic World Cups where you could play the whole cups? For example the last two-three cups or something like that? I'd also like to have the ability to add own leagues, players and teams. I could go on and on, to get an idea just look in the FIFA 2002 Wish forum, but the main thing is that the best gameplay for any FIFA game was for 98, so EA should go back to that game and develop it to be what it had the potential to be. Cause the fact is, FIFA 98 still is the best soccer game EVER for PC.
EA threw away the good stuff and we continued buying the crap anyway. EA got better and better selling statistics so to them it was no problem that the games lacked in quality. This is where we are today. Now it is up to us what we want. Either we stop buying the crap, or we will never get the great game we deserve.

FIFA RTWC Webmaster: If you don't like it, you should have just made some comments and not persuade people to stop buying EA's products.(what i think from the comments of your first post) That is just not right. Lastly, I still don't understand why you still like a soccer game without shooting meter. Did you play FAPLS and uefa challenge?

Goooooaaaaaaaallllll: Watch your language and stop making me hate Americans...

Bolzer2: ...and germans.

Amika is right, the fifa series is getting worse and not as fun as I've played older fifa versions when I was younger. However, Fifa is the first soccergame that let us play with friends all over the world with directip.

mikasalo32: We love the patches with the pc versions, not the gameplay.(fifa2001)

To everyone: As fifa is released at different times in each different countries, I suggest those who doesn't think fifa 2002 will be good. Look out for comments in the forum, or get the demo. From what I heard from fortunate people who tested the game, the new passing system is great and scoring is difficult.(That sounds like iss,FAPLS and uefa challenge) I'd say, give EA Sports another chance, and I'd love to see FIFA RTWC Webmaster say "Fifa 2002 RTWC is a great soccer sim!" someday!(at least i hope so)

first of all, i think rtwc98 is crap. Why dont you just shut up, i know fifa games have never been perfect but give them a chance, they are canadian, what do you expect. The good thing this year is that they have to Starz team from britain working with them. If ea just do some researh like watching football(or soccer)every day to find out what real football is about. So i think that this is the year when they get it right, so give them a chance.

HAHA, I was once adicted to the trend of buying crap fifa games, but I am happy to say I have know stopped.

The reason I stopped was because I started playing ISSPE1 AND 2, and I realised how crap the gameplay of ALL fifa games have been.

ISSPE2 and wining eleven 5 are the best soccer games on this planet, so when fifa relese fifa2002, Konami(KCET) will be releasing a new ISS.

I know some people don't like the fact that I am posting this message. I know some of you people that have not played ISSPE2 probably think fifa is better believe me I have been playing this game for long and I can't stop, as for fifa2001 I played it for 2 weeks and I stoped(no gameplay). I quote from gameplay.com Fifa2001 = 5/10 ISSPE2 = 10/10.

I read somewhere that ISS will be coming to the PC, when it does bye bye fifa.

PS: feel free to argue your point but this information is FACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In reply to ICEBOY's comment:
I am not trying to persuade people not to buy any EA products. I actually think that EA has given us many many great games in the past. For example the NHL games has been great, but when it comes to soccer, I think that they definately have disappointed us. If FIFA2002 is a great game I will happily keep my mouth shut and after trying it so that I am sure it just isn't great at a first look I will definately go out and buy it!
But you missed the point of this whole post! EA:s interests are not giving us what we want! EA:s interests are EARNING AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE just like any other company in the world!
The thing is that EA sell just as much no matter if the game stinks or not just by pure reputation. This is what we have to realize. The only way we can get EA to care more about what WE want is that they get some competition on the scene. Either by old games, or by new games other than EA:s products.
There are too many people out there that buys the game just because they are fooled by the commercial circus around EA and their games.
When it comes to the demos, just because of the graphics, the games feel fantastic at first, but after playing for a while (with a demo you usually don't play that long) you start noticing the lacks of the game.
I don't hate EA, they are just doing what are in their interests. If we want a better game, we should make it in their interest too!

This year should be great to my opinion. The gameplay of the first FAPLS blew the whole fifa series away. Now the FAPLS team is joining the production of fifa 2002, I'm sure, this will be the game worth waiting for. I know FAPLS/FAPLS 2001 is not as good as ISS, but it is definitely the top soccer games out there!(fifa 2001 at the bottom)

I have been a big Fifa fan since the beginning and although not perfect, always found it to be the best around. The thing that made the game for me was the internet community, with all the great addons which breathed new life into it. I would play Fifa virtually every night, but always thought there was something missing. Then a few weeks ago I was round at a mates house and he suggested we had a game of ISS Pro Evolution 2 on his PSX. I was instantly hooked.Hidden behind the dated looking playstation graphics was a superb game engine that made Fifa's gameplay show up for what it really is-substandard, weak, and repetative. So I persuaded my mate to let me borrow his game for the weekend as I wanted to try it with the various emulators out there. Tried it with Bleem!-Not work, Tried it with VGS- It worked! and played ok, but the graphics looked really crappy. Then I tried it on ePSXe, and after trying out a few different plug ins and messing with settings success! It looks great, and plays smoother than the playstation version, and I haven't touched Fifa 2001 since.Went straight out and bought my own copy of it and have been playing it most nights since. My advice to anybody who is looking for the best footy game on the PC is to get ISS Pro Evolution 2 for the PSX and download a copy of ePSXe from PSXemu.com (http://www.psxemu.com)and if you need any tips on setting upe ePSXe check out a few of the posts on the ISS forum of soccer gaming.
I will still buy Fifa 2002 though as I am a mug/glutton :D
Cheers

I agree with Iceboy, the pwr meter is the way forward and as good as Fifa 98 was, I do not want to go back to that engine. I think 2001 is the best game though flawed, and all the other games had the flaws that this has.
The pwr meter should be/is being expanded to all the other buttons in the new game, and hopefully the tackling will be improved and more like real soccer.

See, FIFA would be a lot better if EA try to forget what they made at FIFA 2000 and 2001... Make the next game based on what was made at FIFA 98, but with lots of innovations, including gameplay (make it even better)...

I believe that if ISS comes out for PC, we would almost forget that FIFA exists... There are things that should be COPIED from ISS! Like the Master League mode, that every time you win a match, you get more points to buy new players. In FIFA you start with a certain ammount of money, and can't get more!

I think Konami should get the licence to release official FIFA games!!

Jakob
09-07-2001, 02:38:AM
Okay…
First of all I'd like to say that I agree with what you said about the gameplay in the FIFA series. It's true that they changed the gameplay after 98 to the scripted one we have now, and I don't like that either. And you're also right about they shouldn't change a good concept.

But what if they change a bad concept, like the scripted shots and so on. Actually EA said that they had totally rewritten the gameplay, so let's hope they'll take a leap away from the gameplay we have now.

I'm NOT saying this because I'm a SG staff member; this is my own opinion on the FIFA series.

FIFA 98 (WC 98), and 99 was good, I enjoyed playing them - but I didn't really like 2000
2001 is better than 2000, cause you can at least decide how hard the shots will be, and the pitch is better. And with the opportunity to change the power of the passes as well, I think FIFA 2002 will be the best game so far. Then you say that FIFA RTWC is better and stuff. I thought so until I smacked in the CD last day. After playing FIFA 2001, 98 isn’t really the game I remembered it as being. FIFA 2001 is the best game so far, and I really hope 2002 will be even better!!

But this is just my opinion... don’t tell me I’m an idiot if you don’t share the opinions…
(I already know that I’m an idiot anyway :D :D j/k)

Mmm, some good points mentioned, but the thing that i have noticed between Iss and the Fifa series is .. Balance and Poise and comfortable game play , Iss has this in abundance, where as the Fifa series is far too linear in all departments, it is mainly direct go for it gameplay, the mad race to hit the net with no thought for any individual ball control as you see in Iss, the way that the players turn and check the ball with the delicate bending of the legs and then the outside of the foot control is how it should be, all along with the other realistic player actions that can be seen in that game, i now have a feeling that Fifa 2002 will be missing these sort of realistic actions, and going by the current videos it looks like a combo of Fifa98\Fifa2001 with added power meters tossed in for good measure, plus 'the new passing system' this isn't to say that it will be a failure, but perhaps not what we are looking for in our quest for the ultimate football game .. Ned

I still believe that the ISS gameplay is perfect! You can do more than those burocratic passes at FIFA... Dribbling is hardest in ISS... You can move your player to a better position when trying to head the ball... And all the other stuff that FIFA hasn't...

Where did you hear ISS is coming to PC? I keep hearing everyone talk about it, but I don't have PS2. I really want to give it a try. The gameplay looks pretty good, but there were some things in ISS that still bother me. Maybe the videos I saw were on easy skill level, but the defenders seemed to run away from other forwards making runs off the ball. It might be less scripted than FIFA, but some of the gameplay still seemed strange. But I can't honestly judge it until I give it a try.

but ia saw the videos of Winning Eleven 5 and it KICKS A*S !! IT LOOKS AWSOME !!!

P.S I really think that Sensible World of Soccer was the best soccer game ever !!! The most important was GAMEPLAY graphics was not. You could play it for months and you didn't get bored - when fifa is boring after month or less..... ( Look - SWOS was putted out in 95/96 (!!!) now we have 2001 and EA stil couldn't find some way to create such playble game...) Look at Deluxe Ski Jump (if someone played it) it is too so invlonvig you could play and play and play and you never get bored and you could play whenever you want to. Thats the key - GAMEPLAY. Shame that Winning Eleven 5 wouldn't be on PC. It would be serious competetive for FIFA and maybe then EA would do something REALLY SERIOUS to put out THE BEST SOCCER GAME EVER.... (for now the title is still for SWOS)
