I definitely think they should add some more leagues from around the world. Right now the only true league in the ISS/Winning Eleven series is the J-league. In J-League Winning Eleven 2000 they have the J-League and the J-2 division with promotion and relegation, but if they could throw in at least a few more that would be great. In the U-23 verison of Winning Eleven 2000 they have an expanded master league as well (24 teams divided into 2 levels) with promotion and relegation. I should be getting these games delivered any day now and I'll let you know what they play like.
One thing that I didn't like in evolution was the fact that you couldn't play with all of the Master League teams in a custom tournament, and the fact that you had to create them all through the point system first.
For commentary, they need to add more variety with the comments.

As for gameplay improvements... the basic model of the game is excellent, but I think that you need a little bit more control over the players. Sometimes, in the game you just don't feel like you are in total control over the player. If they do that, and add more detail in the moves, which will probably happen when the PS2 version is out, it will be an almost perfect game.

great man..

i forgot the GAMEPLAY...
i thought this aspect is untouchable
but
AFTER TRYING THE GAME ON EPSX THE NEW 3-D EMU( i encourage everyone to try it even if u have a ps)www.psxemu.com
i found that because of frame rates, more options(NOT REALLY INTENTIONAL)... (note all these are relative)

1-U HAVE A LOT MORE CONTROL ON THE PLAYERS
2- the big thing is that it is less likely to see OUTPACING..i.e. this rage in attacking u will have or the computer has that will make attacking easier and defending
impossible 4 u.
3-player switching is more clearly defined
- this really affects defending
4-playes don't respond as quick which makes things more tactical
5- it is less rewarding to just clear balls or let midfielders push with headers many times
6- GOOD PASSES ARE MORE REWARDED AND BAD ONES ARE LESS LIKELY TO SUCCEED:
- if u pass and it's tight than u have to be more accurate
- if u do a good kiler ball in good space the player may be able to get more of these balls i.e. LESS OUTSIDES

7- more time to pass the ball around in the middle of field and hold on to it to think(slightly)
- but passes have to be done with more care
8- BALL SPEED IS REDUCED A BIT:
especially in high passes:
- so if u cross a ball to CF at agood position..it's easier to PLACE THE HEADER AND EVEN DO VOLLEYS AND BICYCLES(1 or2 in 2 or 3 matches)
- but inacurate passes are less likely to be reached...
9-SURPRISINGLY FATIGUE comes into play more
as the last 15 mins your players r quite tired, repond slower....and IT IS ALMOST ESSENTIAL TO USE YOUR 3 SUBS!!!!!
MUST TRY!!
and also animation detail and gfx are appreciably better esp. w/ a decent vid card

Commentary - of course.

I think they should add more leagues - but not forsake authenticity at the same time. The one Master League in ISS PE is more authentic (in terms of the way individual teams and players play)than all of the leagues in Fifa 2001.

As for the game engine - I think it's fabulous - and I don't think they should make the players more responsive - if they did you'd get a Fifa situation where players can stop with the ball instantly. One thing they must add are INJURIES (!) - which were the only thing missing in ISS PE.

I think the animations are still better than Fifa 2001, but the graphics need to be made more sharp.

Agreed sabaho the epsxe emulator is incredible.
Ok after it being my first choice game for about a year now(I dont think Ive played a game with this much depth before..okay maybe CM) Im still finding new ways to open up the defence..but unlike other games this doesnt mean you can do it every time.
Ok the only major improvement Id like to see is more control of your players , its the best by far but their AI scripting is a bit too obvious for my liking.
Eg when the through ball is played you loose most of the control of your player, when the long balls are hit the computer decides whether its the defender or attacker who gets in front and for that instant after your players are dispossessed they do that stumble. I know that these have been included to balance the gameplay but Id like to have total control for the whole game.
The same way we get control when the ball's crossed in-Id like that for all 50 50 challenges.

The most overlooked aspect of PC sports gaming is the analogue gamepad(correct me if
there's one out there). This instantly blew me away when I played ISS for the first time on N64. Move the stick slightly they walk with the ball bit more a jog ..etc
If this was implemented in the KCET games it would be incredible

Im never going to ask for better graphics again - look what its done to FIFA.
Remeber Neutral that ISS was actually written for a little playstation hooked up to the TV set so they cut down on polys wherever they could. It amazes me that the game can look like it does and still have the gameplay depth, considering the limitaions.
I think thats what annoys me the most about EA. Weve got these beasts of computers that can simulate whole wars (ala Falcon 4) and display them on screen, but EA cant make 20 or so blokes-believably-kick a ball around, while the KCET lot have managed it with relatively ancient technology.
Anyway someone elses turn.
PS Wow unlike fif2001 forum the title of this post hasnt attracted an instant flame http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

"Eg when the through ball is played you loose most of the control of your player, when the long balls are hit the computer decides whether its the defender or attacker who gets in front and for that instant after your players are dispossessed they do that stumble"

Acutually, when the ball is in the air, try to quickly adjust your offensive or defensive bias and you should be able to get in front of the opposing player more often.

There's not much flaming on this forum because everyone here knows each other pretty well after being a part of this forum for close to a year now. We talk about everything here, from CM, to ISS, to (most of the time) 'real' football. IMO, the coolest forum on the net.

my comments on ISS :

1- why can;t we choose the game time in the Master league? i like to play 15 minutes, 10 mins is not enough at all!!!!

2-we need the option to play with the ACTUAL teams in the master league, i wanna play with ManUtd with their REAL players, and they should be avilable for friendlies and custom tournaments!

3- we need to be able to add new teams and edit them too!

4- the atmosphere is not very high especially when u have a shot or a dangerous play the crowd dont react as they should do!

5- we should be able to replay any part of the game, because sometimes there r some moves that are more beautiful than goals!

6- referee and linesmen if u dont mind

its the best game and without these features i'll still be playing it till i die!

thats all

ISS is cool. Problems with it have been already documented - commentary sucks, the ball, when kicked sounds like a balloon popping, the lack of club teams and player names are in deficit compared to FIFA etc.

I would also add the annoying way in which your AI does not anticipate play. In attack a surface through ball is nearly always surrendered as the defender intercepts before you even gain control. Similarly if you are tackled, your player stands still and contemplates his inadequecies rather than tracking back. Similarly there are few tricks available that are capable of beating defenders. Some might consider this realistic but it detracts from the gameplay.

I do love the lofted throughball though and EA should incorporate it immediately. Similarly the fact that you can intercept loose balls and create volley \ half volley shots is spectacular compared to the Fifa routine where you slide for the ball, the keeper nearly always takes spectacularly and your guy commits a foul and is instantly dismissed.

I love Fifa's visuals on the PC and will continue to purchase these games, if only to guide my beloved Newcastle Utd to the top of the league. However ISS is by far the better football simulation.

My idea of football gaming heaven:
Fifa graphics, sound and presentation,
ISS gameplay,
This is Football ball dynamics,
Sensible World of Soccer Manager Career Mode,
Internet Leagues.

Enough inane ramblings, what do you think ?

pretty good..but i think the ball is almost perfect(on epsx its just slightly slower)..and the reponse is VERY NATURAL..
recall when u play..how mnay ppl could lose the ball and instantly tackle back?

in this game players with very high STAMINA LIKE DAVIDS DO THAT BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE
which is amazingly realistic!

konami HAVE EMPHASIZED THE FACT THAT U CAN'T BE FASTER THAN THE BALL!

Here's some clarification on the names of the various ISS games. Winning Eleven is just the Japanese version of the PS1 ISS series.

KCET Games:
PS1 -
ISS Evolution = Winning Eleven 4
ISS Evolution 2 = Winning Eleven 2000 (which comes in 2 varieties, J-League and U-23 editions, plus a 2nd edition update out in November)

PS2 - Winning Eleven 5 .. out March '01

KCEO/Major A games:
N64: ISS = Perfect Striker
PS2 - Jikkyou World Soccer 2000 = ISS 2000 = ESPN MLS GAMENIGHT PS2 version

Sabaho - The comments about gameplay etc are for ISS pro Evolution with the epsxe emulator, remember Im only talking about slight problems here. The plusses of ISS could take a while... http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

The analogue controller was on the original International Superstar Soccer for the N64 - Major League development team I think.

Yer I used to get annoyed and start ***** fights with the Fifa supporters but quickly found out I was wasting my time. These are the first few posts Ive has on these forums for a yr or so now, and they all used to be here.
Your right theyre basically kids that dont understand everyrthing isnt just plus or negative, according to them you either love fifa or hate it no in between.

The best thing Ive heard about iss2000 is that you can play a career mode of sorts. It would be awesome to start off in conference as a youth player and try and make it to prem league http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

I've played the career mode (Success Mode) in the PS2 Japanese version of ISS 2000 (Jikkyou World Soccer 2000). It's a pretty cool concept.. you create an original player from scratch, you select a fictional club, you do some reserve matches to try to see if you can make the 1st team. The goal is to make the U-23 national team with your player. You usually don't play a whole match, it is more like Scenario mode from the N64 version. You do alot of interacting with the coaches and even stuff in your personal life. It's pretty simplistic, but could be alot of fun. I didn't get very far because I can't read Japanese. If Konami could build on the concept and maybe take away some of the cartoonish nature of the mode, it could be really cool.

I just received my copy of J-League Winning Eleven 2000 yesterday, so I thought I would give some early impressions. It's not too different from ISS Evolution, just some minor adjustments to the gameplay which make it even better than before. The build up play is great and the animations have improved. Reaction time is faster now, and the players move better. It now requires even better use tactics to break down the defense. Keepers can get sent off, and there are now injuries.

I just bought the game today...and I traded FIFA 99 to get it !!! LOL !!! I'm happy, and the game is great...just like I had expected. The only setback is the graphics...but then again we're talking PSone here. I just hope the PS2 game by Konami kicks ass in that department...because they have gameplay covered 100 %

I HAVE AN IDEA!
SINCE THERE'S NOT THAT MANY ISS SITES IN ENGLISH..WHY DON'T WE(ISS FANS ON THESE FORUMS) MAKE ONE!

i am sure there's a good webmaster amongst us(definitly not me) that could do this and we could all help by bringin news as they r diverse ....screenshots,videos,reviews,hints and tips..guides....

what do u think?

Neutral

Rather than having a seperate ISS forum - why don't we keep using this one? That's why I didn't vote for a seperate ISS forum - this forum is fine for me - we can talk about Fifa, ISS, CM or real football. I'd rather have one forum with friends I know where I can talk about many things, than having to go to several different forums.
Agree? Disagree?

Keepers are booked or sent off if they bring down a player in the box depending on the severity of the foul. I had this happen today when the CPU juked past the keeper, I pressed the button that brings the keeper out and he brought him down in the box... and my keeper was red carded.
I got this game from a Japanese import company http://www.himeya.com ... I have a Japanese PS2, so I'm not sure if this would work with the emulators. You can get the Winning Eleven 2000 U-23 version at http://www.ncsx.com

Thanks Beavis,
are Himeya very reliable? I think I'll buy J-League WE next month - $63 US is a lot of money (will be about $80 canadian) and I'm still kinda broke after buying my PS2. Thanks for the info.

Himeya seemed pretty reliable. I got my game about 9 days after I ordered it, and it was sent directly from Japan. It was sent airmail. www.ncsx.com is a probably more reputable company, but they probably wouldn't be able to get it out as fast.

sabaho
05-11-2000, 08:12:PM
great..beavis.. another annoying question(don't think it's the last http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif )

which version would u recommend olympic or j-league? coz i know the olympic has..more euro teams right?..but does it have the same updated..injuries..tweakings?

beavis
05-11-2000, 08:58:PM
I would probably recommend the U-23 version because the J-League version only has the teams from J-1 and J-2 plus 7 special teams (ManUtd,Arsenal,Milan,Roma,Juventus,Barcelona, and Vasco). It was released in June.

The U-23 version was releasesd more recently(late August) so it definitely has all the gameplay tweaks from the J-League version, if not more additions. It has a bunch of regular National Sides from around the world(maybe like 40 or 50), All of the U-23 teams fromt the olympics, Plus a 24 team master league with 2 divisions (promotion/relegation)
- Manchester (Manchester United)
- London (Arsenal FC)
- Chelsea (Chelsea)
- Liverpool (Liverpool FC)
- Leeds (Leeds United)
- West Ham (West Ham United)
- Barcelona (FC Barcelona)
- Madrid (Real Madrid CF)
- Valencia (Valencia CF)
- Monaco (AS Monaco)
- Marseille (Olympique Marseille)
- Amsterdam (Ajax Amsterdam)
- International (Inter Milan FC)
- Torino (Juventus FC)
- Milano (AC Milan)
- Lazio (SS Lazio)
- Parma (AC Parma)
- Firenze (Fiorentina)
- Roma (AS Roma)
- Dortmund (Borussia Dortmund)
- Munchen (Bayern Munchen)
- Leverkusen (Bayer Leverkusen)
- Rio De Janeiro (Vasco Da Gama)
- Buenos Aires (River Plate)

Plus I think they might have Galatasaray and Dynamo Kiev as bonus teams.
