Who would have thought that when we were to meet Ipswich they would be above us on the table, let alone in 5th.

Our problem has been that our scoring has been inconsistent, compared to the rest of our play. We have been awesome in recent weeks, we have dominated matchs, set up chances, but just haven't put them away when it counts. Hopefully scoring 4 against Bradford in the Worthless Cup ended our drought of goals at St James'...

P.S. Does anyone thats in Australia know what match is on Foxtel tonight?

2-1.

Guess who scored? http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

We are back up to 5th, well on our way to a Europe spot. Mackems lost today and Boro are in relegation zone.

Nobody is willing to do it, so I have volunteered to tell you that nobody cares about Shearer. The fact that you celebrate the goals he scores are indicative of his declining stature. There is not a single person in this forum who waxes boastfully about the scoring of Andy Cole or Henry or Hasselbaink, because thats there job. They are paid to score. Shearer is an overpaid was been who by some mismatched intercourse of luck and one dimensional skill has miraculously fashioned career statistics that exaggerate his ability.
As for Newcastle's fifth placed team...........they are probably just one or maybe two places above where they ought to be. Theres no achievement there. The standard of football in the premiership has degraded this year. "Your", team is where it should be. Man Utd and Arsenal fans dont brag about being top of the table, and after those two, Chelsea, Liverpool and Leeds are the teams one would have expected to be above Newcastle this season.
Congratulations. You have over-achieved by a single place.

antithesis! Where have you been? I would boast about Liverpool's 5 game win-streak, our 2-1 win over Chelsea, or Emile Heskey's strong play of late, however today our defence was more leaky than an 85 year old with bladder problems, and Viduka hit us for four. Excuse me while I cry into my beer.

Cole or Shearer? Yorke or Shearer? Solskjaer or Shearer?

NUFF SAID!

I just LUV Man Ure fans. Every year you think Shearer is finished, and every year he scores.

I just like bragging about it to rub yer faces in it.

ONE ALAN SHEARER....THERES ONLY ONE ALAN SHEARER...ONE ALAN SHEEEEEAAARRRRER!!!

There is nothing wrong with doing better than expected, even it is by "one-place". At least it shows we are moving in a foward direction. If you are so citical of Newcastle, what do you have to say about Leicester? They are only so far up the table because they have only really played the provincial clubs so far. What happened when they played Man Utd?
That is overacheiving, and it is also a false indication of where that club is at. I predict they will suffer the same fate as Aston Villa a couple of years back.
I agree that you couldn't put us in the same catagory at Man Utd and Arsenal, our **** performances against Charlton, Everton and West Ham show we can be inconsistent sometimes. But now, with SHEARER in form, and a couple of good wins behind us, we can cement ourselves in the top 5 with more consistency and confidence.
Anyway, why can't I celebrate somebody scoring? If is was Solano or Dyer would it be any different? Yes it would, you wouldn't give a damn. But you give a damn when it is Shearer. Why? Just because he proves you wrong over and over again.

I think Newcastle have every chance of finishing in the top six. However we must turn possession and approach play into goals. It worked against Bradford midweek and against Boro, but in our games against West Ham, Charlton and Everton, teams who are supposedly inferior in quality and depth of squad, have managed to take maximum points from us. This is despite the Toon dominating these games and having superior possession. Even against Ipswich were were very pretty but could only manage a single goal and a penalty. These teams should be sent packing from St. James Park with a 4-0 drubbing.

Although I am an exiled Geordie I do keep in touch with the brethren who pay homage to the Magpies every other week, and I listen to the commentary on the Internet and common consensus suggests that the new St. James Park may be hindering the home side's progress. Having 55,000 should work in your favour, but a great deal of affluent season ticket holders who started to attach themselves to the club during the Keegan era, (when Premier League football became vogue), do not generate as much noise and encouragement as the 4,000 stood in the old Gallowgate end. Last season I was at Newcastle vs Southampton, having paid best part of £50 for two tickets and we were 5-0 up with half an hour to go. To my amazement a flood of supposed Newcastle fans streamed out of the ground at this point obstructing the view of supporters on their way. Unheard of in my day.

As for Alan Shearer at Southampton and Blackburn he was undoubtedly the best striker in the Premiership. The fact that Alex Ferguson allegedly try to sign him twice is testament to this. Until Shearer had an unlucky run of serious injuries he had it all - pace, power, precision and awareness. In his prime Andy COle, Kevin Phillips, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Emile Heskey wouldn't be considered good enough to clean Shearer's boots, let alone replace him for England.

Unfortunately Shearer has lost a yard or two of pace and he is clearly not as mobile as he was in his youth and as a result his game has changed. He is playing in a team that doesn't create enough chances in the final third of the field and there has always been a problem in finding him the perfect strike partner. He appears to enjoy working in tandem to a big target man, and has great success with Chris Sutton and Les Ferdinand. At present he is working with Daniel Cordone who is more of an attacking midfielder and I am sure when Carl Cort is re-introduced into the side, Shearer will find himself with more chances and the goals will flow.

All those who are writing him off as a has been need to be warned at this point last season both Shearer and Newcastle struggled after the Guillet debacle, yet he still managed to finish as the highest scorer in all competitions. Be warned.

Neutral,
I have been here all along. Unfortunately I cant be as critical of Liverpool as I envisaged because they have played well. Heskey has convinced me. I was absolutely wrong about the lad.

Phillips of course.

But I will remind you that Kevin Phillips does not play for Man Ure or Arse-anal or Liverpuddle. The big clubs have **** strikers.

Hey Fellow Newcastle Suppoters.

I read all of your guys posts and I just want to voice my opinion to the follwoing people:

a_shearer09: I agree with you my friend, Newcastle is our team, my favorite player in the world is Alan Shearer. From your username, it looks like he also is yours. That is why we celebrate so much when he scores. When he is doing bad, all of you people get all over his back. Yet when a player from your team is in a drought or is not playing well, you do not get all over him.

Antithesis: Why do we celebrate our 5th place? We do this becuase the last few years have been horrible. I am sick to my stomach when I think of how bad we have played the last few years under Dalglish and Gullit. We are a team that should be in the top 7 or 8. WE are now, so why not be happy about it? If a Man U or Chelsea or an Arsenal was 12 and 13 the last few years wouldn't you be celebrating if you were in the top 5? I think so, I know many Leicester city fans, including my dad, my uncles, and all my Leicester City relatives who are footie fanatics. They are buck-wild b/c Leicester is in the top 5. Any football fan usually goes madd when their team is in the top 5, correct Neutral?

Aussie Geordie: Bravo my friend, you are 100% correct.

Final thoughts: I agree with WaltonSW too. We have the ability and the players to be in top 5 for a long time. We need to capitalize on the chances we get. We need to capitalize. Watch for Newcastle later in the season, we will keep getting better. When Bassedas is in full form, Cort in full form, we will surely be amazing. We have midfield skill in Dyer, Bassedas, Cordone, Speed, Lee, Acuna. It is the defence we need to improve on, and when Cort is back. Shearer will score more. Cort will add his pace and speed to the game, Newcastle will be great, just watch...just watch.
