View Full Version : Thuram Going To United: Talks On
seandenny 08-06-2001, 07:55:PM It is official, Lilian Thuram wants to move to Man Utd. Parma have put up a £15 million price tag. Talks will begin in eight days when the Serie A season finishes. After Thuram, Sir Alex Ferguson has said that there will be at least one more big signing that could be Keiron Dyer (£20 million).
madmatt 08-06-2001, 08:01:PM Fergie's wacked. If your gonna spend £20 million, at least spend it on a player who is:
A. Worth it
B. Good
with £20 million he could buy Steven Gerrard, Djalminha or Owen!
v-bomber16 08-06-2001, 08:13:PM **** off how is thuram not worth it.Hes the best right back in the world(alot better then gary neville) and probly one of the best defenders in the world. If hes not worth 20 million than Djalminha is definately not.
seandenny 08-06-2001, 08:14:PM Dyer isn't worth it. Better off keeping the money.
Fifauk-Tom 08-06-2001, 08:28:PM i agree, 20m is a bit steep for dyer. it is believed you could get rivaldo for around 25m due to his age
Drinky 08-06-2001, 08:57:PM Yes, Gerrard for £20m. Owen for £20m. Yes. Quite.
Dyer won't sell at £20m, for starters. Djalminha is worth about £7-10m tops because of his age, and you'd need £35+ m for Owen and Gerrard, not because they're worth that, per se, but because Houllier would demand at least that.
Personally, I think Ferguson is secretly hoping that Juventus and Zinedine Zidane will change their minds about a transfer. With Zidane entering his 30s, Juve probably realise that his value is going to diminish by the day from here on, and with Juve's challenge for the Champions League a distant dream for at least the next couple of seasons, Zidane would probably want one last crack at trying to win the Champions League. At his age, £20-25m would be the absolute top price point. If I was Alex Ferguson, I'd badger Juve and not take no for an answer.

£20 million won't even buy you Owen's left leg. Same for Gerrard.
Can't stop the rush... 08-06-2001, 10:30:PM LOL
seandenny 09-06-2001, 12:08:AM If United get Thuram and Sol Campbell, we would be unbeatable in England and have a great chance in Europe.
I have my hopes set on Campbell.
madmatt 09-06-2001, 12:20:AM Campbell can move on a bosman, cant he?
v-bomber16 09-06-2001, 11:55:AM Yeah well Campbells alot better than crappy Wes Brown
I think that you're underrating Kieron Dyer. Think about it, if he could learn to play on the left flank, then he could be an England regular. I think that he would be a good purchase, because in a year's time, i can see him as being double the £20 million price tag. he's got some exciting times to come. :D :D :D

Excuse me? "Crappy" Wes Brown? Since when was Wes "Crappy"? He's a solid centre back. As good as any in Engand. Better than most. He's had a better season than Sol Campbell!

Have you got any sort of football knowladge?guess not coz if you had you would see that Wes Brown is in his early 20's and Adams and Keown are in their mid-to-late thirties. They have tons more experiance than young Wes Brown.
Wes Brown is a great defender! He's only young and he's got the skills, he only needs more experiance, I don't see how you can be an accomplished defender at the age of 22 or so....was Tony Adams better at a young age than at the (old) age he is now?NO!
Talk sense next time will ya
Silencer 09-06-2001, 02:52:PM Hey, United allready bought Ruud v Nistelrooy so who needs Campbell :D
Thuram would be a great asset to the team that's for sure, together with Stam they can become unbeatable hehehe.
This week Solksjaer renewed his contract till 2006 and both Nevillebrothers did the same.
David Beckham is the next in line to renew his contract probably in the coming weeks so once again it will be VERY TOUGH to play against this team and Keano can be satisfied with the new players Fergie bought.
v-bomber16 09-06-2001, 05:52:PM Hey Philler
I was just responding to bex who said that Brown is as good as any centre back in England and i was just proving my point that hes nothing compared to others. And Rio Ferdinand is only in hes early 20s and hes a hell of alot more accomplished than Wes Brown.
v-bomber16 09-06-2001, 07:09:PM No way is he better then Keown,Adams etc.
Fifauk-Tom 10-06-2001, 06:38:AM wes came second in voting for pfa young player of the year. don't tell me his fellow professional's don't know anything about football. he's a far better player than keown, adams, southgate and as good as rio. also he's younger than rio.
Fifauk-Tom 10-06-2001, 06:43:AM also he's more versitile than the above, he can play wing-back too
