I was browsing through the Real Madrid thread when I came across Arnau's post:

di stefano looks fit, why dont he comeback?? i thought its cheaper than cristiano and galáctico enough.

putting the sarcasm aside, I wondered what would happen if the technology was available to reinstate players back to their physical prime ...

for Barcelona, Ajax, and Holland, there are many options, though I suppose I would choose Cruyff because I never got to see him play live ...

if the regulations were that you could bring back just ONE retired legend per club, who would you choose to bring back for your favourite team?

Teófilo Cubillas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Te%C3%B3filo_Cubillas).
He's been such a legend for both Porto and Perú but all I know from him are the vids from youtube and my dad's praise for the man.

Liam Brady.

Brady was one of the greatest players ever but he was stuck with rather poor Arsenal teams. They almost got relegated a few times, and had it not been for Brady they would have been. He really got to shine in the three years between 1978 and 1980 when Arsenal reached three FA Cup finals, of course claiming it in spectacular fashion against Manchester United in 1979 through an Alan Sunderland goal which was set up by a superb Brady run through the spine of United's defense and midfield.

He went to Juventus and won Serie A twice in as many attempts.

Shame he doesn't get more recognition.

Dunno if he's retired, but Makelele in his prime would be nice.

But if I could just bring back any legend back from retirement, I'd love to have Overmars and Bergkamp. Can you imagine Overmars and Joe Cole down the wings, with Lamps in the middle, Makelele in the DM role, and Bergkamp helping Drogba? **** Barca, we'd own everyone's asses.

Nathaniel Lofthouse, OBE - "The Lion of Vienna"
On 3 May 1958, almost five years to the day after losing the 1953 final, Lofthouse captained Bolton in the 1958 FA Cup Final against Manchester United, who three months earlier had been involved in the Munich air disaster. Against a national wave of sympathy for United, Bolton won the game 2-0 with Lofthouse scoring two goals, the second of which was highly controversial and remains a talking point to this day. Lofthouse went into a challenge with the United keeper Harry Gregg and barged him into the net to score as shoulder charging the goalkeeper was a legitimate tactic at the time. :D

On an International level, I'd love to see Allan "Skill" Cole back in action for the Reggae Boyz. He was so good a player that he represented the Senior National team as a 16 year old, and played for Nautica in Brazil - unheard of in those days. For those of you who remember Carlos Valderrama, "Skill" Cole played very much like him, with maybe a bit more speed and willingness to shoot. He was a close friend of Bob Marley's, and shared both the religion and hairstyle. (And Bob's wife, if rumours are to be believed.) Legend.

Dammit Bobby already did Chippy! I think I'll take Bergkamp with Henry the closest of second place finishes.Main reason will be that he retired at Arsenal w/ an awesome testimonial (not that I'll ever begrudge Henry from leaving because he had already done it all). But Bergkamp had some of the greatest moments ever like that Newcastle goal and his first hat-trick against Leicester amazing!
Even though this is for clubs I'll still want to see how Okocha would have done given the opportunities presented to Africans now.He was in my opinion the best thing to come out of Africa.

opportunities now? Abédi Pelé won the Champions League in '93, George Weah was World Player of the Year in '95 and runner-up in '96 ... opportunities have been around for a while, not least in the '90s ... Okocha had bags and bags of skill, but he was lacking in mentality, especially when he was frustrated on the pitch ... that's why he never featured at the highest level in Europe, which is where his sheer natural talent should have taken him ...

Those two played in French speaking countries in West Africa, they then were scouted by Monaco and Marseille from there.Okocha played in Nigeria and England (Man United in fact) only started to scout in Africa in 1998.He then made it to E.Frankfurt, then to Turkey and to PSG.I only remember him in PSG,sure his mentality might have been little suspect, but the only thing I ever faulted him for was for not staying in Paris for longer (he could have gotten the kinda deal Ronaldinho got, although I concede that is unliely).

If United had such a machine;

Peter Schmeichel in goal, Duncan Edwards, Denis Irwin, Steve Bruce, George Best, Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, Mark Hughes, Eric Cantona and Denis Law. Oh and of course The Baby Faced Assasin.

GK: Schmeichel
RB: Neville
CB: Vida
CB: Rio
LB: Irwin
LW: Best
CM: Keane
CM: Robson
RW: Ronaldo
CF : Cantona
CF : Rooney

Actually, United have so many legends I'd love to bring back to peak form.

As the post says ONE though, I guess it'd be Bestie.
