Some of those aren't even retired but they're not what they were when I really liked them.

I second that. He was just a phenomenal and very underrated midfielder. Much like Xavi, btw. (Give it 10 years and nobody will remember him outside of Spain).

Anyway, besides all those you all mentioned, I miss Luiz Hernandez.

He plays for North Queensland Fury, here in Australia!.

He was just released by Man City, but still wants to continue playing.
But ATM he's a free agent.

My favorites come from around 1998, because that's when I first started following football, in the World Cup. Then we had FIFA 99 which we used to play a lot, so my favorite players I miss are mostly from that era:

-Davor Suker
-Edgar Davids
-Marc Overmars
-Frank de Boer
-Taffarel
-Zinedine Zidane
-Didier Deschamps
-Demetrio Albertini
-Gabriel Batistuta
-Ivan Zamorano
-Luis Enrique
-Hristo Stoichkov
-Jaap Stam
-Philipp Cocu
-Lothar Mätthaus
-Oliver Bierhoff

Just to name a few.

Gascoigne: was a magician on the ball when on form. Quite possibly the most gifted footballer of his generation.

Cantona: United's talisman, capable of almost reading his team-mates' minds at times.

Roy Keane: Man Utd's driving force and a real old fashioned box to box midfield dynamo.

Ups. I notice now that I don't miss him. I just saw that we have won a triplet last season with him as a head coach. :(

btw, frankly, I miss Ronaldinho for sure, I miss Kluivert, I miss Oleguer, ...

And, the first football game that I have ever seen was Germany - Czech Republic, the final of Euro '96. I still remember those two goals from Bierhoff. The next day, I wrote his name and number 20 in a t-shirt lol.

Yeah, that's the whole point. He's been great for years but only now gets some recognition.
Although he is, I don't think he'll be remembered as one of the best midfielders of the decade, much like Guardiola - hence the comparison.

And about Guardiola I mostly remember him when he was Barcelona captain &when he played in Italy...but I've watched the 1992 European Cup Final and he was probably MoM in that game.

I really liked the way that Guardiola could change suddenly direction of the play from one way to another. Rivaldo stated many times that he admires that as well.

ROFL @ Danny Tiatto!!!
He too has come to play in the A-League for Brisbane.
He's the biggest hack that I've seen in my life!!!

As for playing for NQ Fury is same as being retired, well, I can't comment yet.
Because they are a new team starting this year in the A-League, which is only a 5 year competition as is.
I admire Robbie for coming here to at least try and improve football in Australia, because for years it has been the 4th or 5th most played sport in the country, and only recently has there been progress.

And Alejandrix, I know what you meant, but I thought I should make my point anyway. :P
