MAN U is a good team and because of this, i find that majority of friends around me are MAN U SUPPORTERS.

I will say they are only Glory-hunters and know **** about football. They only know that probability of MAN U winning is greater than the reat of the teams. They even mocking that TEAMS from another country; BAYERN MUNICH, CORINTHIANS, REAL MADRID, JUVENTUS, GALA, etc... are inferior to MAN U.

I too feel that ppl should support their home teams, no matter how they bad they play or perform in leagues or tournaments.

I myself was a Man Utd "supporter", tho I feel that I'm better described as a Man Utd "follower", cos I'm all the way here in Singapore. I've seen em get lower placing then City in Division One and seen em lost FA Cup finals, which is more than I can say for most "supporters" now.
IT was only when they won their second or third league title earlier this decade that they began to garner a bigger fan base, from what I see here in Singapore. Kinda pisses me off.....little kids who only get to see Man U play on the telly cos they keep telecasting Man Utd matches here proudly say they're "supporters" of the club. I've stopped telling people I'm a Utd fan now cos I'd never wanna be classified as a glory hunter like these kids.

Right now, I can proudly say I am a huge football fan, especially the EPL and Serie A. I enjoy almost every game I get to watch. I love watching Tottenham beat Liverpool and seeing Ipswich Town going up to 3rd place a week ago. And not least, I love watching Man Utd dominate their games. Champions League games are also always entertaining, best one I've seen was the 2-2 draw between Gala and Milan.

As for supporting my home team, the Pro league here's not worth to pay to watch a match for, but I'd still tell ppl who ask that I'm a "supporter" of my home team even when they've been finishing 3rd or 4th place from bottom since the League's 2nd season.

So Iceboy, back your S-league team, not a club almost halfway around the globe.

I think the general consesnsus among most fans is that they respect Manchester United as a team and their talents, but don't like the incessant whining of their fans, even though they have little to whine about. When they do lose, you hear the excuse and the wittering. Note to United fans: Teams lose as well as win. If you moan when you lose, you forfeit the right to gloat when you win.

Hmm, was that unintentional irony, celtic&manunited? Most people hate Manchester United FANS, not Manchester United. Reasons?

1. Arrogance.
2. Inability to take a defeat.
3. Lack of knowledge of the actual club.
4. Proximity of said supporter to the club.

Want my theory? Manchester United is, as Peter Kenyon once put it, the biggest brand in football. When you see two-year-old kids runnig round in Man Utd shirts, its because their parents have bought into a brand, just like they might buy their kids Nike trainers or similar. When you see teenagers in Norway wearing United scarfs, they're buying into the success of the brand. The brand of Manchester United is now almost more important than the actual team of Manchester United. Perhaps its marketability might suffer if the current purple patch fades. We can only hope.

While I do agree with you about some of what you are saying, I think your last comment is a little unfair. Is it not a little arrogant of yourself to say that just because someone does not live in proximity to the club they cannot support them??? While Man U is much like a brand (and for the most party many of their fans know little of the club) some of their foreign supporters may be genuine.

Anyways, what about supporters such as myself? I support Liverpool FC because my family is from there and has always supported the club. Furthermore I live in Canada where we have no professional Football league. So whom am I to support in regards to your residency requirement???

Just something to think about for everybody before they slag off foreign support. We may have a legitimate reason! (Although I should say MAN U supporters tend to give us a bad name!)

There has to be a line drawn somewhere with all football clubs,not just manutd.
I admit manutd are probably the best known football club in the world,they play attractive football.
I always hear that the people who support are 75% glroy hunters.I never heard Barcelona mentioned,who are just as big a brand as manutd,if not bigger(supporters wise).
So from what I would make out is that barcelona have more supporters than united but all these supporters are genuine and not glory hunters??Er...I don't think so.
You see,Manutd have lots of supporters streching from malasiya to south africa and canada,some support the club coz they like the way they play football other support players(e.g. some support beckham and which club he plays for doesn't matter to them).
For instance I don't live in Manchester nor england and I'm not a season ticket holder.So does that make me a glory hunter?No it doesn't,because I still go to school and I really can't fly every week-end from the Netherlands to manchester.I don't have the money nor the time....I know a lot abaout united and I have shirts and autographs and the knowlage to prove it.I do go to old trafford in the school holidays etc.

As for large brands, Manchester United sells better as a brand in the Far East and America because there is more of a relationship with England in these countries, containing as they do ex-pats and people who can relate to English football. Barca are much more popular with the Hispanic population of the US than Man Utd, but taken as a whole the most popular side in the US is the Red Devils.

I have a season ticket at old trafford, and it pisses me off so much to see loads of business men and 5 year old kids at the games. BUT their are 25,000 real fans at every game at least, the rest only know becks cos he has a famous wife. the reason we don't have any more is cos the tickets are sold to men in suits, no men in replica kits and singing their hearts out.
