View Full Version : EPL Day 6: Manchester Derby (United vs. City) [P+R]

Here we go, It's a shame that Robinho, Tevez and Adebayor can't play but derby matches are always close and unpredictable.

http://i27.tinypic.com/9zvrpz.jpg

Facts and figures ahead of Manchester United's Premier League derby clash with Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The last three seasons have seen both league meetings won by one team. Last season and 2006-07 United came out on top, while in 2007-08 City won both encounters.

Emmanuel Adebayor has scored in his last two visits to Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Emmanuel Adebayor has scored six goals in his last five Premier League starts.

City have won only one of 12 Premier League trips to Old Trafford.

Carlos Tevez scored in this fixture last season while playing for Man Utd.

Wayne Rooney has scored in three of his last six starts against City.

Since losing to City in February 2008, United have won 23, drawn two and lost just one of their 26 games at Old Trafford. Before that defeat, United had won 12 home league games in a row, meaning they have taken 107 points from a possible 117.

City have been winning 1-0 at half-time in all four of their Premier League matches so far this season.

Wayne Rooney has scored five goals in his last five league matches.

Rooney has been caught offside 13 times this season - more than any other player in the league.

If City lose, it will be their 200th Premier League defeat.

Man City were the last team to beat Man Utd on a Sunday in the Premier League - since then, United have won 11 and drawn three.

I hope they ban Adebayor for the rest of the season.

They really should ban him for a long time - there were at least three reasons to send him off on Sunday.

1: Stamp on Fabrigas' angle, leaving a gash requiring stitches.

2: Kick to Van Persie in the face

3: Causing a potential riot with the Arsenal fans.

Still I'd love to see what Nemanja would do to him if he hurt a United player.

City fans will be approaching this like a cup final - their focus seems to have been on United all along, United will be up for it - but their focus is on the league title, and City are simply next to overcome.

I guess they banned him only for three games.

Imo, he should have been banned for at minimum three games for the tackle he did on van Persie, plus adding to that other stupid acts that he did. I don't know about Cesc tackle coz I didn't watch the match, but I saw videos of him celebrating like crazy and that tackle on van Persie. He definitely deserves longer ban.

With that behavior, he showed that is the dumbest football player currently. I had another impression for him, but now I just hate him.

In spain, they banned Pepe for 12 matches for those kicks. I'm not saying that Adebayor did the same crime, but he did some kicks and he did that nasty behavior in front of Arsenal fans.

FA banned Gary for three matches when he celebrated in front of Liverpool fans. Uefa banned Drogba for three matches for that sentence alone.

I think Adebayor got far less than minimum ban ... and you know there are two other competitions in England so I think he'll just miss two matches for Citizens.

It's ****-ing stupid, Red Card = three match ban, kicking two players+nasty behavior = three match ban.

and the worst part is City's appeal against that ban.

bybuti

Pepe got banned for 10 matches. But, still don't compare Pepe's one with Adebayor. Adebayor still can 'defend' himself by saying that he didn't do that tackle on van Persie with intention, while Pepe can say nothing. But like you said, that's less than minimum ban. He should have been banned for 3 matches just because the red card he deserved. Anyway, whatever was the punishment, I guess very few football fans respect Adebayor now.

absolutely! Owen is the speculative type of player who can score a goal of nothing. But I'd say that 3/4 of Owen goal is Giggs' majestic pass.

I feared for us after that - usually if you make a stupid error like that (and Rio's later) you rarely go on to win - but we have Michael Owen.

By the way - I take back anything bad I ever said about Darren Fletcher, he was immense today.

Tough loss by ManCity... Just when you think you are coming out with a point, owen scores.

Haha what a great game. I really enjoyed that, even at 3-3 I was thinking O well what a class game, then Owen and giggs... quality! :D

Was so funny, I was watching the game at home with my partners dad and the git started supporting city just to annoy me I think.

It made it that more intense and then Owen scored, I jumped on the floor, punch the ground (which is still hurting) then proceeded to roll onto the side of my left arm doing doughnuts on the carpet hahaha

I also have to mention Tevez. After the summer I was really starting to hate this guy but he's got my respect back. He didnt really celerbrate the first two goals. Was hugging evra at half time and was also clapping the stretford end even though he was getting booed. Kinda feel sorry for him now. Hes got my respect back and I'm sure many others.

K now that I've calmed down, some actual analysis from what I got from the highlights and many reports that I've read. Yes, we were outplayed in the 2nd half and probably deserved to lose, but not the way we did. This was almost on par with the Montreal Screwjob (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_screwjob) people. Giggs outclassed Richards on the right, Hughes was outcoached by Baconface in the 2nd half, God only knows why he threw Bellamy into the central midfield role and pushed Ireland up onto the wing. Lescott and Toure need to start hanging out outside of training more often to get to know each other because they've been inept the past 2 games. Bridge is just Bridge, nobody cares about the **** and he gets out-jumped for almost every header. And Tevez seemed like he disappeared in the 2nd half but played hard in the 1st and got us the first goal.

All in all, cant complain too much about what went down though. This game can be used to motivate the team for the entire season, and once we get fit again we should be up there with the top four.

Oh, and Bellamy, you ask?

Was in Stamford Bridge with a a few dozen Chelsea men watching the end of this match, and man, I watched the best part. From what I saw and highlights/commentary, Ferdinand + Foster = United's retards, City - Bellamy + Given = retards. I don't even care about the other 90 minutes, the siautioin could've been 0-0 or 1-1, or they could've been leading, but why did City kee kicking the ball away? They gifted posession to United, then Tevez stupidly fouls whoever it was, leading to a chance, and then instead of controlling the ball that got headed away, he heads it as well, leading to the goal. Welcome to Manchester, indeed.

City are doing what they need to do and that's battling the top teams and keeping them on their toes. Losing to ManU, under such circumstances, at Old Trafford, without some of your best players is nothing to be ashamed of. And if City win their extra match they're tied with ManU on points, ahead of Pool and Arsenal, and this is league. So long as they beat the smaller teams and challenge the top teams, they're doing it right.

Defense was ****, btw, even with with multi-million partnership of Toure and Lescott.
