View Full Version : Ajax-Celtic Who will win it?
DJLethal 07-08-2001, 03:52:PM Tomorrow the first leg of Ajax-Celtic is played in Amsterdam. It's hard to tell who will win cause Ajax just beat Liverpool with 3-1 and won the Amsterdam Tournament[with Valencia, Liverpool, Ajax and AC Milan] and Celtic just won from Man. United with 4-3. Who do you think will win the first leg?
Help? 07-08-2001, 07:19:PM Ajax, Celtic bought player for a lot of money, that the player didn't even deserved! Who is Hartson, you call him good? He is good, but not for Celtic, Celtic should really think of whom to buy.
Silencer 07-08-2001, 07:50:PM Ajax definitely!
Celtic is good but the Scottish championship is W E A K, much weaker than the Dutch one.
Ajax doesn't have to be afraid of Celtic in my opinion, we've got much better players than they have. Their only good striker is Larsson and there are some other ok players but they are not better by any means. It's the 'old' team against the 'youngsters', the medium age of Ajax in the team is 22!! Lots of talent and lots of confidence will take them further I'm sure of it :D
Ajax - Celtic 3-1
Jambo Den 07-08-2001, 07:54:PM it cant be that weak if rangers f*cked PSV 4-1 a couple of seasons ago
DJLethal 07-08-2001, 08:08:PM I think Ajax will win it. Zlatan and Mido, two of many new players, are realy good and fast and all the other young talented players are too. I think Rafael van der Vaart is the best young talent in Europe. And about Rangers-PSV; you can't compare that with Ajax and Celtic because they are totaly different teams. And besides, If Rangers and PSV would meet now, PSV would without a doubt kick Rangers' ass!! When I think about it I already feal sorry for Numan, Mols, Konterman, R de Boer, Ricksen and Advocaat.
Jambo Den 08-08-2001, 06:37:AM oh dont be scared of celtic:they can easily be torn apart.
Arveladze and Tebily:that is going to be a close battle (NOT)
i suggest that Ajax get some big defenders because sutton and hartson will cause problems in the air, never mind Larsson
just keep Larsson quiet and you basically take away their goals(but it is difficult)
i think that ibrahimovic from sweden and the another guys will win they are good
Jari Litmanen 08-08-2001, 06:59:AM Yeah AJAX will win they are the clear favourites in my opinion.
Jari Litmanen 08-08-2001, 10:50:AM HJK beat Celtic last year 2-0 and controlled the whole game on the pitch but they scored in extra time to gain a 3-2 aggregate win. Lucky Scots.
Can't stop the rush... 08-08-2001, 11:25:AM Ajax is gonna win. :p
The Don't 08-08-2001, 02:11:PM After watching celtic's recent performances I've definitely got to go with Celtic. They beat Man Utd who are probably still one of the best teams in Europe and even on that match they played Veron, Nistelrooy and basically their best eleven and still were beaten, so Celtic are winners. Trust me.
Luc Nilis 08-08-2001, 02:28:PM Ajax got some great players like Chivu, Ibrahamovic, Hossam and Arveladze. But they've got a VERY young team and i dont think that can be too good. I think Celtic will win the CL on experience.
DJLethal 08-08-2001, 03:48:PM -------------------------------------------

Well you have to remember it was just a testamonial. ManU didn't play a serious game. If they would have been playing a serious game, they would would have never put that fat contona in the game. The only players who played the game seriously (Nistelrooy and Veron, to proove they're skills) scored. That sais enough.
Mike 'Air' 08-08-2001, 03:53:PM Well, if you're taking friendly performances into account (like most Celtic + A.B.U.* fans are) Remember Ajax humilliated "everyone's favourite club" Liverpool a couple of weeks ago.
I'm backing Ajax, cos it's about time they did something in Europe!
Mike.
* A.B.U = Anyone but United : Common name for the Anti-United brigade.
Help? 08-08-2001, 10:07:PM It's a first half right now and Celtic is winning 2-0!!!!!!!!!! The guy named Petta and the other Agatti, both scored! We will see if Ajax will manage to come back, btw Ajax surprisengly put Zlatko I. on the bench!!!!!!!!   . What are they thinking? More updates to come.
J@MES 08-08-2001, 10:13:PM is john hartson playing
Help? 08-08-2001, 10:48:PM 2nd half
Ajax 1-3 Celtic
Ajax:Arveladze
Celtic:Petta, Agathe, Sutton
No John is on the bench
Jambo Den 08-08-2001, 11:48:PM you see?
now how many people are willing to bet Ajax will win the tie now???
DJLethal 08-08-2001, 11:56:PM Stupid Ajax coach changed Ajax line-up too much. But my compliments for Celtic. Theyre defence was likea massive wall, and theyre counter was deadly. The only happy moments of the game for me was the Ajax goal, and it was nice to see Petta score. But ofcorse I would have rather seen an Ajax player scoring. I think Ajax just played too playful and the passes were too bad.
Silencer 09-08-2001, 12:47:AM Well I've just returned from the Arena and
Ajax played like CRAP, I'm a big Ajaxfan but I'm emberassed because of the way they played tonight.
I was standing on the F-side like always and we were really ashamed during the break and all the Scottish fans sung and sung and can you blame them??
Nothing worked, all the balls were for Celtic and Celtic was much stronger than Ajax unfortunately.
I have no illusions for the second leg next week but I do hope they can turn it around.
(more wishfull of thinking I guess
Scottish fans are o.k in my book, I had a lot of fun with them but man do they drink
 before and after the game yeehaaaaa :D
We (Most of the Ajaxfans shook their hands afterwards and drank a beer with them).
Now that's the way footballfans should act, like the Celticfans tonight in Amsterdam did.
Congrats to Celtic for a fantastic display, we clearly underestimated them.
Luc Nilis 09-08-2001, 12:53:AM Wow what a game!
I tought Celtic was going to win, but not that easy. The first half hour Ajax was totaly played of the field. After the half hour Ajax came back in the game, but Celtic was still the better team. And i think the game could easily be 1-4 or 1-5. Ajax is defenitly still not ready for the big work, but it's a team GREAT potential. And think in about 1,2 years they will have a super-team on the field.
BTW: Why was Ahmed Hossam called Mido?
Silencer 09-08-2001, 01:01:AM I think you're right there Luc Nilis, Ajax is not mature enough yet and in 1,2 years they will be very very good I think.
Mido is the nickname of Ahmed Hossam, they called him that when he played with Gent and he wanted that name on the back of his shirt and not Hossam. In the national team he's allso known as 'Mido'. He has great potential btw!
But there's still 90 minutes to go and in the past there were a lot of games in the CL where they performed better in awaymatches than in homegames so there's still hope.
Ajax is at their best when they play in other stadiums and are booooooed out by the other fans.

Paul Merson 09-08-2001, 01:03:AM Why did the Ajax kit have adidas stripes? I thought that the Ajax fans complained about last years kit and adidas were forced to change it? Or is this kit just for the Champions League?
Silencer 09-08-2001, 01:07:AM Yes Liam, Ajax agreed to play with stripes in the CL/Uefacup and Adidas did Ajax a favour to let them play without the stripes in the Dutch League and Dutch cup.
It has everything to do with the merchandising, there was a big difference between the amounts of sells last year as for instance 1998/1999 and a lot of complaints because we as fans believe that the stripes do NOT belong on the Ajax-shirt but that it has to remain white like in the past. I'm just glad that Adidas listened because I'm not a big fan of them.
Jambo Den 09-08-2001, 02:01:AM most celtic fans are Irish anyway and i'm embarrased by them because they are supposed to represent Scotland when they bring tricolours and sing vile sectarian hatred.same goes for Rangers with the union jacks.
you're right silencer.a good Amstel really loosens those vocal cords ;)
also the celtic fans must be really comitted if they buy 365 shirts.
or is that just the 1 they wear all year round???
anyway,Hearts play them on saturday so we'll see what we can do to beat them so Ajax get them on the cold.
good luck for the 2nd leg
Jambo Den
Silencer 09-08-2001, 02:56:AM Same goes for the Hearts, Kick the sh*t out of them o.k and take out Larsson while you're at it :D
