Run DMB 26-06-2010, 03:19:AM With African soccer's abject failure thus far in this tournament, all eyes turn to Ghana. It is with the Black Stars that the people of Africa's last hopes and dreams rest. It is our job to crush and trample those hopes and dreams underfoot. Go US! Vengeance shall be ours!
Oh and yeah, there's also some other game. I think it's one of the Koreas vs. one of the 'guays.

I am looking forward to Korea vs Uruguay more. Not so much US vs Ghana.

what a mistake by the GK ...
URU 1-0 KOR
Suarez 8'
KingPaulV 26-06-2010, 03:12:PM this could get ugly for Korea......
gasper000 26-06-2010, 03:47:PM Why didn't the referee award a penalty kick for Uruguay ?!!
That's a clear handball against the Koreans.
Zlatan 26-06-2010, 03:53:PM Yay! Luis for topscorer of the tournament!
(And being sold a month later) :(
smf_fede 26-06-2010, 05:08:PM Yes!!! Our way to semifinals has 1 game left, great performance for Luis Suarez, spectacular gol, Forlán brillant as always, excellent control from him, and the best, Diego Pérez, a truly warrior on the midfield.
Good effort from Korea, Uruguay had given Korea the chance to return in the game just defending nearly 50 minutes, but the korean's goal wake up Uruguay and recovered the control of the game, unbelievable the PK didn't called for Uruguay, it was the end of the game, but justice came with the spectacular gol from Suárez.
One step closer, arriba Uruguay!!!
night 26-06-2010, 05:16:PM I somehow felt that Stark was favoring Uruguay. He denied Korea a penalty and awarded several unnecessary freekicks in Uruguay's favor when South Korea were in good scoring positions. Also, he blew his whistle before the end of the 3 minutes when Korea were quickly on their way to the final attack of the match.
Anyway, South Korea blew two goalscoaring opportunities so they have themselves to blame for the defeat.
nice goal from suarez (Y)

I missed that Korean penalty, surely, but there was a clear handball by a Korean defender inside the box in the first half, which wasn't called.
STML1 26-06-2010, 05:41:PM Uruguay should learn from this that playing the annoying and boring park-the-bus-and-counter tactic doesn't always work and keep ******* attacking. They have way too much quality to use that bull****.

i agree. almost every call was in favor of uruguay. but korea's forward gook who came in 2nd half missed two clear goals....
fender 26-06-2010, 06:13:PM Great goal to win the match. Only just noticed some of the Uruguay players jerseys have a collar and some don't.

@Max: I can't see the big clubs not coming in for him this summer; but at least his transfer fee has gone through the roof, and will only continue to rise if his heroics continue ...
Only just noticed some of the Uruguay players jerseys have a collar and some don't.yeah noticed that ... either those players folded it in, or got the kit manager to cut the collar off ...

B9Goal 26-06-2010, 07:38:PM Damn you Ricardo Clark!!!!!!
Sevillista 26-06-2010, 07:50:PM The USA look very tired to me, which is bad news because it's only the first 15 minutes. I saw Donovan and others using sniffing salt before the match to perk up.
And Tim Howard was out of position on that goal :nape:
This could easily be 3-0 or worse by the end.
Arnau 26-06-2010, 08:17:PM Ghana is playing with catalan flag in the shirt, they must win.
::shinji:: 26-06-2010, 08:18:PM actually Ghana's kits are giving me a craving for a Big Mac
Run DMB 26-06-2010, 08:19:PM I saw Donovan and others using sniffing salt before the match to perk up.
I want to know what else they've been sniffing.
Credit to Ghana, they've been very good. But what a dreadful first half from the US. No surprise there, I guess.
Xifio 26-06-2010, 08:24:PM Clark was at fault, but so was Howard ... and how is Findley still a starter?
Ghana have looked very confident in possession, but without really threatening the goal (nothing from within the box) ... I'm expecting more clinical play from Dédé Ayew and Kwadwo in the second half, testing Howard more often ...
Nimreitz 26-06-2010, 08:25:PM Couple thoughts: first of all, Ghana had a pretty crazy press for the first ~30 minutes and took it off at the end of the half, although they're still applying a ton of pressure. Wouldn't surprise me to see them tire out around the 60 or 65th minute. Secondly, the USA players are just in love with pulling off individual brilliance. A lot of the times we lose possession, it's because we ignore the simple pass to try and beat a guy one on one, and of course it turns out wrong. Know why Landon Donovan is our best player? Because he always makes the simple pass, not because he dribbles around everyone or continually does feats of individual brilliance with the ball. Jozy, Deuce, Bradley, Clark are all guilty of this. It's stupid.
Finally, 4-3-3 beats 4-4-2, and it sure as **** beats 4-2-2-2. Team USA looks like they've never seen a 4-3-3 before.
Run DMB 26-06-2010, 08:26:PM Why do we keep gifting these guys goals every time we play? It's not like they need our help. It's 2006 all over again.
Nimreitz 26-06-2010, 08:26:PM Clark was at fault, but so was Howard ... and how is Findley still a starter?
It's a real mystery. Needs to be Buddle or Gomez, but Bradley has some hangup about big tall athletic guys who score with every touch. Too bad for Edson.

In Bradley's defense, Buddle was pretty bad v. Algeria. I would have rather seen Dempsey up top and Feilhaber inserted into the midfield. And no Rico Clark.
Nimreitz 26-06-2010, 08:29:PM In Bradley's defense, Buddle was pretty bad v. Algeria. I would have rather seen Dempsey up top and Feilhaber inserted into the midfield. And no Rico Clark.
I don't believe Feilhaber can play on the wing, so I'm against this.
EDIT: Well, here you go. I hope it's a 4-5-1/4-2-3-1, not still a 4-4-2.
Nimreitz 26-06-2010, 08:33:PM I know this is stupid to even bring up, but does anyone else think Ghana are getting away with a lot of very obvious foul throw-ins?
MaestroZidane 26-06-2010, 08:50:PM HELL YEAH!! CLean penalty and Donovan levels it up..
U.S have been putting pressure in this second half and is paying off
Sevillista 26-06-2010, 09:16:PM I don't know who this ref is, but he's been outstanding. He has intervened very little and has gotten it right when he's had to, especially on that penalty kick.
I think this might be a good opportunity to introduce USA fans to the agony that is a penalty shootout :D
gasper000 26-06-2010, 09:20:PM EXTRA TIME...
for me it's 55% Ghana - 45% USA

It's only agony for nations who wilt under pressure like Holland, England, and Spain. Germany, Brazil, and Argentina don't seem to view them as agony.
Run DMB 26-06-2010, 09:24:PM I don't believe Feilhaber can play on the wing, so I'm against this.
You were saying? (H)
He plays on the wing for his club team, he should be getting better at it. Much better second half from the US, and like I said, this is the line-up they should have started with.
Come on, boys! You can do it!
Nimreitz 26-06-2010, 09:24:PM You were saying? (H)
He wasn't really on the wing ;)
MaestroZidane 26-06-2010, 09:27:PM Let's try and avoid penalty shootout, but if it comes down to it... I have faith on my guys...
WHAT THE F**K WAS THAT ON OUR DEFENSE... :nape:
Nimreitz 26-06-2010, 09:30:PM If the US really wants to play long ball, they could at least put Edson Buddle in the game. Herculez won't win a single one of those balls.
Keegan 26-06-2010, 09:41:PM The US is Ghana lose...
Nimreitz 26-06-2010, 09:42:PM Really think the Gomez sub was a terrible one. USA resorts to high long balls and Gomez is just completely incapable of playing that way as the lone striker.
Xifio 26-06-2010, 09:43:PM what a finish from Asamoah Gyan! wasn't so much route 1 as it was capitalizing on a chance occasion ...
chasing the game after 105 minutes is no easy task for anyone ... Ghana with one foot in the quarters ... come on, do it for Africa!
Nimreitz 26-06-2010, 09:55:PM It's not "tired legs" entirely Harkes, there's no target man for the route 1 ****ball the US insists on playing.
Nimreitz 26-06-2010, 10:04:PM Coach Bradley with a **** performance and he's the sole reason we're out. Bad starting lineup, which caused him to make a sub after 30 ******* minutes, then he kind of redeemed himself with Feilhaber and the 4-5-1/4-1-4-1, but then Herculez Gomez was just an inexcusable substitution in my opinion. The thing that's frustrated me more than anything else for the USA this World Cup is how we constantly play high long balls all the time, and there's seemingly no other option after about the 60th minute. We completely resort to the long balls, if we even last until the 60th. So, knowing that, why the **** do you put Herculez Gomez, a Michael Owen-type poacher who probably stands 5'5'' in lifts, in as the lone striker? ******* retarded. Buddle rotted on the bench all Tournament.
We probably played 15-25 long balls in extra time, I'm not sure we won a single one. With Altidore we probably kept possession on 30-50%.
gasper000 26-06-2010, 10:09:PM Well done USA .. may be in 2014 you will go further .. be proud you have a good team
CONGRATS GHANA .. it's really good to see an African side in the quarter finals :33vff3o:
may be if they reach semi-finals or final, that would make FIFA award Africa a sixth place in 2014
Run DMB 26-06-2010, 10:10:PM Just not good enough in the end. Gyan's goal was opportunistic, but he f*cking buried that sh*t. I can't see anyone on our team doing what he did in that situation.

Got me a projected 2014 lineup? I'm curious what the defense is going to look like. Striker and midfield probably won't change much.
Xifio 26-06-2010, 10:21:PM fantastic to see Ghana keep themselves and the continent in the tournament, and now they move onto a very possible shot at a semifinal spot! I still think Uruguay will make it, but a confident and creative Ghana is more than capable of getting the business done ...
shame for the Americans ... Lalas doing his best to control his almost-crying voice ... like it has been said, emotionally and physically spent to keep getting themselves back into this tournament; it was just one time too many ... and I agree with the Dans; I question the selection and changes ... shame ...
B9Goal 26-06-2010, 10:23:PM Got me a projected 2014 lineup? I'm curious what the defense is going to look like. Striker and midfield probably won't change much.
Ricardo Clark won't be in that lineup. That's for damn sure.
Nimreitz 26-06-2010, 10:24:PM Ricardo Clark won't be in that lineup. That's for damn sure.
Edu and Bradley should form a ridiculous bond through the next 4 years.
jumbo 26-06-2010, 10:28:PM The African dreams lives on!
Great performance, the US was outplayed.
night 26-06-2010, 10:30:PM Well done Ghana. Totally deserved this victory.
Tough luck to the American fans, but I'm f*cking delighted to see Alexi Lalas about to cry. His presentation is unprofessional, biased and arrogant and his lack of respect for other nations and criticism of top class players gets unbearable at times. ESPN's choice of the likes of Gullit, Klinsmann and Martinez has been fantastic. Why is Lalas also part of that bunch? I'm sure there are better American candidates for the job.
Run DMB 26-06-2010, 10:33:PM Got me a projected 2014 lineup? I'm curious what the defense is going to look like. Striker and midfield probably won't change much.
Howard
Spector Gonzalez Onyewu ?????? (someone awful, no doubt, although Bornstein played the best game I've ever seen him play today)
Donovan Bradley Edu Feilhaber
Altidore Dempsey
I don't see it being very different. Some young players will undoubtedly emerge, but for now I'm not seeing anyone that could challenge for a spot. Holden and Torres will be in the mix, of course, but I don't know of anyone outside of this roster who has much potential. Same guys, four years wiser.
Nimreitz 26-06-2010, 10:34:PM his lack of respect for other nations
I'll agree with this one. Totally.

Surprised not to see Chuck Deezy. And how about Heath Pearce? Is he really that bad?
Dz0KsRS 26-06-2010, 10:40:PM Ghana pwned USA. Not expected, but it was very good game. Good work of Ghana players and Rajevac.
Daniel David 26-06-2010, 10:46:PM Too bad, I'd rather see the US through. To make matters worse, André Ayew, who is the only player I like form the Ghana team, is out of the quarter-finals due to an unfair yellow card...
Krypton X 26-06-2010, 11:04:PM Bit of a bummer to have the US gone, could always count on a thrilling finish everytime they play.
Tim Howard and Richard Kingson going for the same ball at the end of e.t. was hilarious. (H)
US had their chances and didn't take them, had a few defensive blunders and Ghana made them pay. There's little margin for error in these knock-out games.
Good on Ghana, they've surprised me with their resilience thus far. Will need it in spades to overcome Uruguay, won't be easy to stop the Forlan-Suarez-led assault.
Integrity 26-06-2010, 11:17:PM Great game, the U.S sucked ballz (H)
Run DMB 26-06-2010, 11:22:PM Surprised not to see Chuck Deezy. And how about Heath Pearce? Is he really that bad?
Let's see how Chuck Deezy recovers from that car crash. His strongest attribute was speed, and I'm anxious to see if that speed will still be there once he hits the field.
Pearce is pretty bad at the international level, and he'll be 30 by 2014. I hope someone better comes along.
45 goals in 127 international games for Donovan. Legend! I'd love to see him in Europe more often.
Gunnersgoal22 26-06-2010, 11:58:PM As a Yank I'm devastated because I thought I saw a path for this team to go deep into the competition with their great unity and spirit. Also disappointed because I think overall USA is probably a better team than Ghana so this was a game I actually had high expectations for.
It's tough for the US to go on from here because they won't have anything truly meaningful to play for until another four long years from now. European sides can look forward to Euro 2012 which is a great competition and only two years away. A tournament like The Gold Cup just doesn't compare and any good thing this US team does in the next four years doesn't mean anything if they don't have a good World Cup. I just wish this team wouldn't have to wait another four years until they play their next game of true significance.
KingPaulV 27-06-2010, 12:21:AM Gutted....damn early goals, but the second half performance deserved more...Damn you Bradley! why did you start Findley and Clark!?!!
Sevillista 27-06-2010, 02:03:AM If Howard had scored at the end he would have been a national hero.
I think we got a couple of great matches today. Both matches were tense until the last whistle, pretty evenly matched teams, and both winning teams played rather convincingly.
