Alright, so the trash-talking has started:

Bastian Schweinsteiger
"The shootout is still in our memory, but what really weighs heavily on our minds is what happened after that match,"

"We have to remain calm and not get provoked and I hope the referee will be very alert.

"You could see their behavior at halftime of the game against Mexico. When you look at their body language and gesticulations, the way they try to influence the referees, they have no respect. It's their mentality and character and we'll have to adjust."

Talking about Veron
"He(Juan Sebastian Veron) has played very strongly here. I have been impressed,"

Talking about Messi
"Other teams also have done it. He hasn't scored yet and we want to keep it that way,"

"We'll find the right game plan to hurt Argentina, although we know how strong Argentina is. At this level, you can't make mistakes, it's the details that decide the match."

Friendly win
Argentina beat Germany 1-0 with relative ease in that March friendly in Munich. Schweinsteiger said that result meant little.

1-2-3
"One, it was a friendly. Two, they did not create many chances either. Three, we have gained a lot of confidence by beating England and the good tactics we used in that game,"

Your thoughts/predictions? Reaction to the pre-match comments.

I must say I am quite surprised by Schweinsteiger's comments. I wonder what Martín Demichelis' (his Bayern teammate, who plays for ARGentia) reaction must be to those comments. You don't want to give your opponent any motivation and you know that Maradona will be using this as part of his preparation.

Demichelis probably agrees with Schweini because that Argentina team refused to call him up and it devastated him so much that he slipped into a depression for a year or more.

I don't think Málaga's defence can keep out all of Germany's attacking threats ... but Leo, Pipa, Carlitos, Kun, and even Diego Milito if necessary, are going to pose a multipronged threat of their own to Neuer's net ... plenty of goals with the Germans triumphing will be perfect (Y)

If Argentina gets desperate and throws on Kun and Milito, they're going to get ****ed the same way England did.

I had never seen as many Portugal jersies on the streets as I did last week (since the N. Korea game), they all disappeared as of 2 days ago. Now the Argie tops are all out in force. I hope there's enough room on the Brazilian bandwagon, coz a whole bunch of plastic fans are coming your way.

I'm just worried the Argies will go mental again.

People are talking about Ozil and Muller. What about Lukas Podolski!!!

Everyone's saying that, other than those 5 minutes when England scored 2 goals, Germany's defense has not been tested. Well, you can say the same thing about Argentina's defense.

On that note, something to look out for is the positioning of Lukas Podolski. On both of his goals, he has been wide open. Ozil is creating havoc down the right wing and Klose is drifting over to the right allowing for overlap with Muller. Well, the defense drifts over the right to cover those 3 German players neglecting almost the entire left half of the field. That's why Podolski has been so wide open on his 2 goals.

Argentina's defense is going to be tested in the same way. That's how Loew is going to draw the central defenders out of position like he did with John Terry. Maxi Rodriguez and Javier Mascherano will have fall back to help the defense out. If they don't expect Podolski to get more wide open chances.

Podolski had one of the worst performances of the World Cup in the loss to Serbia. Something like 9 shots, 1 on target, and the shot on target was a saved penalty. In my opinion, he's just not up to it anymore.

Everyone is talking about Arg defence, but i think we have better defence than Germany...

Romero
Otamendi Demichelis Burdisso (Samuel) Heinze
Mascherano

Maybe there are two players that arent very famous...

Romero: AZ Alkmaar GK, very young, but athletic, good on crosses and with great personality...Record clean sheat in Holland league.

Otamendi: Velez Sardfield central defender, he is the best in Argentina, Inter and Real Madrid were following him. Maradona puts him as a RB.

Our defence is 10 times better than england's...so dont think you will see a goal from a goal kick or a goalkeeper that closes his eyes when they shoot...

Mexico can beat England without effort.

I wonder who they're going to replace him with. Looking at the roster it's probably between Trachowski, Kroos, and Marin, but Trachowski is the only one who really offers the kind of workrate that can match Muller's effort.

Come on man, Germany played well but the 4-0 came out of Argentina chasing the game at 2-0. Even the second goal was against the run of play.

All in all though, Germany did deserve to go through, but the 4-0 doesn't really tell all the match story

Why is that? They hasn't been impressive so far and unless they put on some terrific performance against Paraguay I don't see why they should be considered even as an equal team, let alone favorites. Spain did beat Germany in 2008, but the German team has changed a lot since then.

Germans have really surprised me. I was always confident that they are a better team than Argentina, but I never expected their forwards to score so many goals this tournament. Podolski, Klose and Muller haven't exactly had amazing seasons for their clubs. Wouldn't be surprised if Germans won the whole thing, although (most likely) Spain will be a completely different test to Argentinians.

Messi really didn't look bothered this June, he reminded me of Berbatov just sulking around, putting a few nice touches here and there but really his head just wasn't in Africa.

I never said it was an unfair result. Klose could have made it 2-0 early on but he didn't. From there I thought the game was a pretty close and wide open game. After Germany went up 2-0 Argentina fell apart and everything after that was all Germany.

I think you can even make the case that he's the best CM in the world right now for a 4-2-3-1. Clearly there are a lot of #10s and AMCs better than him, but as far as CM/DM he is definitely up there.

Germany have looked impressive but they haven't faced a team with a midfield nearly as strong as Spain's. If Spain beat Paraguay, Germany will have a much different match than they've been used to.

Well, if you say that then someone else can easily say the following:
Germany.....they struggled against Serbia, they will suffer even more against ARGENTINA!!!!!

Your logical fallacy pinpointing is irrelevant at this point, because GUESS WHAT?! ARGENTINA DID INDEED SUFFER EVEN MORE, AND WAS BRUTALLY HUMILIATED BY THE GERMANS!! :bob::skip_e:

And ArgVega, do you still think that Germany is not a great team? :coffe-anim:

Diego Armando Maradona just found a new use for the vuvuzela!!!!!!

Congratulations to Germany. Heading into this game, I said that their defense hadn't faced a true test. Well, Argentina didn;t test them the way I thought they could.....they made an effort for a while but just couldn't come close to keeping it up for the 90 mins.

And Argentina's own defense was found wanting....like everyone knew. They fell apart after the 2nd goal.

There were several opportunities to send Otamendi off. He deserved a 2nd yellow. Muller didn't deserve a card at all.

IMO, Messi has been played out of position with ARG. The next coach needs to copy EXACTLY what Pep Guardiola does with Barcelona, in terms of how to play Messi.

Oh, and Real Madrid just wasted their money on Di Maria. He's a bench warmer and nothing more. Unless Mourinho pulls a rabbit out of a hat, the guy will be useless at the Bernabeau.

Germany have looked impressive but they haven't faced a team with a midfield nearly as strong as Spain's. If Spain beat Paraguay, Germany will have a much different match than they've been used to.

Well said. Agreed.

It's a real shame that Muller will miss that game. He was possibly the man of the match in this game against ARG, with a goal and a brilliant assist on the 2nd German goal.

I would have loved to see him run right through Xabi Alonso.

I only continued what the other guy said and changed the team names. Your attempt at a wisecrack comment and/or ire should be directed at him.

He can't do **** with his right foot and he's nowhere near as good as Robben to survive primarily on his left alone. He'll become like Adriano.

It's not really fair of Maradona to ask him to play as a slightly central right midfielder.

That Muller yellow card really pissed me off. First Messi hit it with his arm way more than Muller did. Muller hit it with his shoulder/chest, it can be argued its a hand ball but not card worthy. Then the Argentine players surrounded the ref.

Any chance you think it might be reversed?

I was wondering that myself. Can FIFA reverse it?

I don't think yellow cards can be rescinded. Regardless how silly its been given. Only straight reds are considered if I'm not mistaken.

germany wins :(
s**t!!!! s**t!!!! s**t!!!! s**t!!!!

As they played better
a shame
Argentina had clear chances but hey, we failed to defend

Clear chances? I didnt see a single one.....Apart from that, im kind of speechless. Amazing game by our Jungs, stupid yellow card for an accidental touch with his arm for Müller....i couldve bitchslapped Higuain for demanding a yellow card for this, but hey...thats argentina....sorry, but its true.

Müller is definately going to be a big loss, he's been immense in virtually every game, only Schweinsteger outshone him today. I can't see Kroos, Gomez or Trochowski bringing the same kind of spark or chemistry with the other forwards the way Müller can.

This is very hard for me to say, but I can't do anything else but admit that Germany from all the teams in this tournament deserves to win the cup the most with the football they displayed.

Gomez definitely not. I guess Löw will bring on Trochowski. Usually he plays better in nt than he does for the HSV

The situation is quite different for yellow cards.......in comparison to red cards. If it's a yellow card that is incorrectly given to the wrong player, then yes FIFA could reverse it. This decision would likely have been made during the game (half time, for this one) if it were to have happened.

If it's a judgement call(by the referee), as is the case here, then it cannot be reversed. He's missing the semi-final.

Let's hope so. He has the workrate, but I don't know if he can do much else. Marin might be the most interesting option, especially if spain keeps refusing to use wingers.
