Guys, in 1 week, a movie will come out about an event that mostly only people in South America have heard about. It was the 1980 FIFA Gold Cup (50th anniversary of first world cup). Many outside would be surprised to know this, but it was considered a major tournament at the time.

It was one of the most fascinating football tournaments ever held. All of the past WC champions showed up with the A teams (England was replaced by 2x runner up: Holland), including Maradona's official debut at a FIFA tournament.
Just something cool, if any football fans are interested in a unique piece of world football history.

BTW, Uruguay won the tournament (and hosted it), upsetting Brazil in a classic final.

For a 'historian' it seems like your sole focus is on Uruguay.

How dare you question his impartiality.

hah, No impartiality here.
I've actually been hired to write the South American component of a football history encyclopedia (Due in maybe 8 months). To be honest, I have always been a fan of Uruguay, mostly due to their similarity with my home country (Scotland). But after this past tournament, I became nearly obsessed with them. There is no comparing our "punching above our weight" pride, with their actual "giant killing" reputation. I guess I'm just fascinated by them, so have been digging up as much as I can on them.
