Well, I managed to download the demo! Here are my first impressions.
- Graphics are -indeed- awesome. The way players shoot and pass is beautifull to look at, the stadium has great atmosphere and the crowd is great when seen from a distance. Best looking FIFA without a shadow of a doubt and lightyears ahead.
- The pitch is really bigger. Press f2 to play with the tower camera and you'll notice it. You have far more space than in 2000, no more pinponging in the midfield.
- The speed is slower than in 2000, but I reckon this is the default setting. It's still a tad too fast in my opinion, so I assume there is a slower setting in the definite game.
- The shot powerbar is a great asset. Now you can really think about what kind of shot you want. You can also shoot from a fairly long distance and it's almost as satisfying as scoring a goal when a fierce 30 meter shot smacks into the side-net.
- Gameplay is definite better than in 2000. Players run into space more often, passes to the left or right of the field usually go to the player that's closest to the sideline. It seems you can even let a pass go by a player so it can be picked up by another, though I'm not sure about this. It might have been just plain luck when it happened to me. There are also more special movements than the two named earlier (360-turn and chipper). You get acces to this moves (amongst them is the famous step over and the scissor (schaar in dutch) by pressing ctrl and moving your arrow keys (I'm a keyboard player). I don't know how it works excactly yet, but it can be done!
I think the default level is rookie, because it's not really hard to win, although it's definitly harder to score a goal this year.
and finally: the through ball is still in but it seems to be, alas. less effective (or matbe I'm just not playing well enough.
I asked a question about ISS earlier on this forum, to the discontent of many of you. Playing this demo has made that I'm not curious about ISS anymore. I'm sure FIFA2001 will be the game I'm gonna play A LOT in the following year! (and fifa2000 can finally find it's rightfull place in the dustbin).
And now, Im returning to the demo for just one more play...
