LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB
Founded by John Houlding on 15 March 1892
The contents of this thread shall hereby include conversation about in-the-news topics, the Club and its owners, players, backroom staff, supporters and any other news items that might have a bearing on the day-to-day operations of the Club, both on and off the field.
The long-awaited conversation can now commence.
newbie original 02-01-2011, 03:26:AM Now, that was the way to start off the new year. A much needed home win over a team having a good season to-date.
Joe Cole with a possibly controversial goal. But what's done is done. Time to move on. I'm not complaining.
A Vital Three Points!
Azrael 02-01-2011, 03:34:AM Half a team-thread, seems appropriate.
newbie original 03-01-2011, 07:34:PM Half a team-thread, seems appropriate.
**** off.
I'm not drunk anymore, I just think you should **** off.
a. You have been very testy lately.
b. It would be appropriate for a number of other threads as well.ex: Dortmund, Inter.
Azrael 03-01-2011, 08:57:PM Taken out of context.
newbie original 04-01-2011, 08:43:PM According to the BBC, former Hoffenheim boss Ralf Rangnick is interested in managing Liverpool, according to his agent.
I am a big fan of what he has done with Hoffenheim. We don't really have much to choose from. My list of candidates would be:
1. Martin O'Neill: I thought he was the frontrunner when Rafa got the job in 2004. I want him to be the next manager of Liverpool.
2. Rafael Benitez: What can I say.....only good memories of his tenure with us.
3. Ralf Rangnick: A similar appointment to Juande Ramos who managed Spurs recently. Despite any possible language barrier, he won't be given much room for error. But I think he's the kind of guy who can get us back to the top 4.
4. Kenny Dalglish: Please no! He's a short term fix. I can't see him being much more than an interim guy.
5. Steve McLaren: Face it, his name will pop up in this discussion. I don't want him though.
The pool is rather thin. There isn't much to choose from.
2. Rafael Benitez: What can I say.....only good memories of his tenure with us.
That would be awesome (H)
Azrael 05-01-2011, 02:37:AM Please hire Benitez. Just in case Carlo gets sacked, I would feel much more at ease knowing that Rafa can't replace him.
newbie original 05-01-2011, 07:04:PM That would be awesome (H)
It would be rather different a second time around. He wouldn't be arguing with the owners every 2nd day. He would be able to focus on managing.
newbie original 05-01-2011, 09:49:PM 3-1 loss to Blackburn.
No worries. It was a day of upsets. Chelsea and Spurs both lost as well. We're not moving forward but we aren't moving backwards either.
Expect Roy Hodgson to be on his way out. It just hasn't worked out here for him. He isn't capable of managing high expectations. At Fulham, they finished 7th 2 seasons ago and he was congratulated on a great job....it really wasn't a great job by him. Expectations were so low that 7th felt like a 1st place finish for them. We're clearly not in the same situation. Expectations, at Liverpool, are very different.
simo_yes 06-01-2011, 01:22:AM hodgson was a good teacher and manager of less than star players... great at fulham and would be equally adept with any mid to low table team. liverpool needs a manager with a proven record of success at the highest level, not just good performances but trophies

Almost Liverpool players are "less than star players". Liverpool's downfall is not something to do with the manager. Its to do the quality of the team. If you look at your lineup, the players are of similar quality as Fulham except Gerrard and Torres.
Krygiarkos, Konchesky, Carragher, Jovanovic, N'Gog. How are you gonna challenge for the UCL if you're playing players like these on a regular basis? IMO Benitez ruined the team. You guys had a lot of good players that you could've used well. Bellamy, Kewell, Keane etc. They were sold and average or declining players (J. Cole, Zenden etc) were brought in.
And Aquilani: What a waste. How can you spend 20 millions on him?

Half a team -thread.
newbie original 06-01-2011, 06:46:PM ...IMO Benitez ruined the team.....
The board room was constantly blocking him. He was forced into situations that were against his wishes. He had very little freedom to manage the way he wanted to.
......And Aquilani: What a waste. How can you spend 20 millions on him?
A desperation move after Xabi Alonso was forced to leave us by Real Scum-drid. We had to bring in someone to appease Mascherano(HAHAHA, look at him now, rotting on the Barca bench...HAHAHAHAHA). That and his bad luck with injuries.
I've said this befoer and I'll say it again....people kept putting us in the same league as Chelsea or Arsenal. Under previouis management, we were not. We could not spend like Chelsea and we were not give time to build up youth stars because of the owner's rising debts. Now, we are in a similar situation to those other clubs....but we need time to catch up.
Gerrard and Torres? Only?
I know who you're thinking of: Meireles
Ok maybe he could be added to these 2 as well, but he's hardly impressed so far. He's been average as the rest.
Nimreitz 07-01-2011, 06:49:AM b. It would be appropriate for a number of other threads as well.ex: Dortmund, Inter.
Dortmund? There's no Dortmund thread here. There are no Dortmund fans here.
newbie original 07-01-2011, 06:36:PM Dortmund? There's no Dortmund thread here. There are no Dortmund fans here.
I think his username was Voltaic Borusse. I don't know if he's still around.
Coruja 07-01-2011, 07:40:PM I know who you're thinking of: Meireles

He's top quality to me. but being the best in Liverpool in this state is quite difficult i think.
And if im not mistaken, hes playing in a different position that he usually played.
Recrero152 09-01-2011, 09:51:PM ...And another disappointing match for Liverpool. Well, be happy that the legend Dalglish is back although I don't think the coach is the problem to look at here.
1966+2006 11-01-2011, 04:29:PM So, as Liverpool fans, what's your take on Hodgson's sacking and his replacement?
newbie original 12-01-2011, 05:21:AM He wasn't given enough time. It wasn't working(no denying that) but he wasn't given enough time to fix it.
People are backing Dalglish....for what, I don't know.
I would expect Torres to leave in the summer. Infact, if we loose another 2-3 games within the next 3-4 weeks, there's a chance that he could be transferred in this January transfer window.
1966+2006 12-01-2011, 04:52:PM I think you'd actually benefit from selling Torres, to be honest.
Xifio 13-01-2011, 02:45:AM I think you'd actually benefit from selling Torres, to be honest.hah cheeky (Y)
newbie original 13-01-2011, 04:26:PM We have now lost both games to Blackpool this season.
I can't wait for this season to end.
newbie original 14-01-2011, 06:34:PM So, upcoming Merseyside Derby vs Everton.
Needless to say, it is a MUST-WIN game. Let's see if Dalglish is able to inspire his team to victory and avoid the season sweep at the hands of a city rival.
Table:
Stndg.....TEAM.......P......GDiff.....Pts
12.........Everton....21......-2........25
13.........Liverpool...21......-4........25
newbie original 16-01-2011, 02:44:PM I know who you're thinking of: Meireles
Ok maybe he could be added to these 2 as well, but he's hardly impressed so far. He's been average as the rest.
SLAP!!!
Liverpool 1-0 Everton, after 36 minutes.
Goal Scored by Raul Meireles, 29'.
TAKE THAT!
1 goal means nothing. His performance is still average.
newbie original 16-01-2011, 03:34:PM So 1-0 becomes 1-2 in less than 10 minutes. Dirk Kuyt then equalizes....reminding everyone that he still plays for Liverpool.
We should have had this game in the bag. I can sense both teams now sitting back and satisfying themselves with 1 point.
Really, this was a must-win game for us.

Recrero152 22-01-2011, 11:13:PM Today was a great win and some spirit is back in the team. Let's see if they can start to turn things around now.
creativemantra 23-01-2011, 07:58:AM wow...awwww
the pool bandwagon is happy now..
cause they won over WOLVES :D
A BIG day for Liverpool. What an achievement! :D
Nimreitz 23-01-2011, 08:58:AM With a name as scary as Wolves, they have to be good.
dexter_morgan 24-01-2011, 04:03:AM A BIG day for Liverpool. What an achievement! :D
exactly. as one their big fan, i hope the 3 points would be continue.

Nimreitz 24-01-2011, 04:16:AM oh my
newbie original 28-01-2011, 11:28:PM So, after the club rejected Chelsea's offer for him, Fernando Torres has put in a transfer request....says the BBC.
Just when you think he's getting his form back, and we land a guy in Luiz Suarez who might help him and the club, he decides to sell us out. No loyalty at all to the club that stood by him during his injury problems.
If he has infact put in a transfer request, I don't want him around. Sell him right now and get it over with.
Arnau 29-01-2011, 12:25:AM He want to win tittles and that is not possible in Liverpool.
He wants to win titles and he joins Liverpool???? Thats hilarious. smart move.
Sevillista 29-01-2011, 04:55:AM He want to win tittles and that is not possible in Liverpool.
He wants tittles? He's got a wife already ;)
Nimreitz 29-01-2011, 05:06:AM And the side tittles are much better in Amsterdam than Liverpool.
newbie original 29-01-2011, 04:29:PM From the BBC:
On 3 August 2010, Torres pledged his loyalty to Liverpool after helping Spain win the World Cup in South Africa. He said at the time: "My commitment and loyalty to the club and to the fans is the same as it was on my first day when I signed."
Idiot.
He wants to win titles and he joins Liverpool???? Thats hilarious. smart move.
It comes down to one title only: The Champions League. He was NEVER going to win it with Ajax. He is not guaranteed to win it at Anfield but has a better chance with Liverpool.

As if he's gonna play in the UCL with Liverpool.
newbie original 30-01-2011, 09:10:PM The Reds are angered by the timing of Torres' request - the January transfer window closes at 2300 GMT on Monday - and believe Chelsea have "tapped up" the player by encouraging him to express a desire to leave.

I hope it's true. Because then I'll have someone to blame.
dexter_morgan 31-01-2011, 06:35:AM This picture is all over the place when he spoke to Gerrard.

Zakov 31-01-2011, 06:59:PM I hope it's true. Because then I'll have someone to blame.
Tapping up? What do you call the whole Charlie Adam situation then?
Nimreitz 31-01-2011, 07:09:PM That's a looooot of money for Andy Carroll.
MaSsiVe 01-02-2011, 12:48:AM Not to mention that managing to pay more for Carroll than for Suarez is gold
LOL Carroll is worth 10 millions at best. Thats laughable stuff AGAIN from Liverpool.
Carroll is 1 million more expensive than David Villa.
Mesut Özil (£12m) + Sami Khedira (£12.5m) + Rafael Van der Vaart (£8m) + Javier Hernandez (£6m) = £38.5m VS Andy Carroll = £35m
Great move by Liverpool. (Y)
Arnau 01-02-2011, 11:38:PM Reminds me off when Gaspart waste all the Figo money with the likes of Alfonso, Overmars, Petit, Saviola, Geovanni...
Azrael 01-02-2011, 11:43:PM Considering the current market and trends, as well as Liverpool and Newcastle's situations, Carroll is easily a 15-20m signing. Factor in the January bumper prices, the deadline day bumper, as well as Liverpool's urgency in getting a striker and it's not that ridiculous.
Liverpool way, WAY overpaid, but still. Hernandez was realtively unknown, Vaart was forced out, Ozil was lookig for a move and on his last year if memory serves, and I don't remember the Khedira situation, but I assume there were more factors in place. Let's be fair here, transfer prices are about more than pure talent.
Personally I think Carrol is worth aroudn the 12-15m mark, but I also wouldn't rate Torres above 30m.

Well it is ridiculous considering that he's not proven himself yet. He had a good half-season in the EPL, thats it. What if its his only good season? Even players like Kevin Phillips or Andrew Johnson had 1 or 2 great seasons. He could be one of them. Thats a huge gamble. Could turn out either way.
I'd say he's worth probably 12 millions. Maximum 14.
He's worth 8 million, add 10 million to that because he is english, double that figure because it was late january and Liverpool were desperate and you have the result

Yeah, Khedira's not really all that good. Those were the factors.
Okay player for Bayern... because he'd be next to Schweinsteiger, but not worth what Real paid.
Arnau 02-02-2011, 04:08:PM Khedira were in the same case than Özil, his contract expires on june 2011.
Help? 02-02-2011, 09:37:PM Who's this Jonjo Shelvey? Dalglish seems to like him
minahasa 04-02-2011, 01:42:AM Carroll is 1 million more expensive than David Villa.
who cares? good move by the new owner. suarez made a good debut and causing an own goal :)
Nimreitz 04-02-2011, 06:20:AM Khedira were in the same case than Özil, his contract expires on june 2011.
I'm saying he should have probably been much cheaper.
poet11 05-02-2011, 07:54:PM dont worry about carrol transfer fee.he is a special player.and on the positive note that transfer is good for english football.i think there wouldnt have been too much debate on that prce had he been a foreigner.u guys got a great owner and people behind the scenes.nino is class surely but he is twenty 27 and injury record is there to see50 m and using them on two magnificent players is shrewd buisiness.chelsea are gonna sell drogba for sure to capture lukaku and maybe also make way for kaka.if that becomes the case they will be in serious problem if they dont bring in replacements for the likes of lamps, terry.so a lot of rebuilding will be needed and by pool would steadier.and im pretty sure about ancelloti leave if roma takeover finalises and show impressive signs.
Filipower 06-02-2011, 05:55:PM I think I speak for all Porto supporters when I say You're welcome. (H)
newbie original 06-02-2011, 06:19:PM The transfer window part 1...
Raul Meireles.....
The transfer window part 2....
Raul Meireles....
Saying something to Nady about....
Raul Meireles....
Laughing at Fernando Torres......
Raul Meireles.....
Where to start. I repeat.....where to start!
I'll let you think about that for a few minutes......
Coruja 06-02-2011, 06:52:PM Saw the whole game, didnt like how Liverpool managed the goal, they looked like a low-class team holding the 0-0. But im happy with the victory cause Liverpool its a club that i really appreciate.
RuiCosta_10 06-02-2011, 06:59:PM Meireles looks much better in red xD
newbie original 06-02-2011, 07:06:PM Did I forget something? OH YES! A 1-0 win at Chelsea.
-------------------------
So, Luis Suarez....I didn't think he was worth 24 million, but whatever.....we aren't in debt anymore. I would have probably valued him at 18million max.
The Big Man - Andy Carroll....again, we overspent but this time it simply went against funds coming in from a sale so not too concerned about it. I would have said roughly 25 million max for this guy.
RAUL Meireles - the in-form player right now at Liverpool Football Club! Oh, and TAKE THAT Nady!!!!! TAKE THAT!
Fernandina Teresa - he says he never loved Liverpool. He wasn't bigger than the club and, as much as he hates to admit it, he wasn't happy with that feeling that he was owed more than the other members of the roster. I never loved him either. It was obvious to me, from a fairly stage, that he wasn't going to be sticking around for very long.
Next, he said that the club did not come good on its promises to him(presumably about strengthening the squad when Alosno and Mascherano left)......well, 1) the club stood by him during his numerous injuries and off-field tantrums and 2) the club owes no such explanation to any players as this is not a matter for the players to be dealing with. Everybody was upset when Mandril stole Alonso away and when Mascherano decided to trade a starting sport for the Barcelona bench but a) you can't control these things and b) others have been brought in....Joe Cole, Luis Suarez(to play with him and help him out) and Raul Meireles, so it's not like we've stood around and done nothing.
Next he says he never kissed the badge and only loves Atletico Madrid. But he still chose to leave them......boy, he sounds like such a child!
You know, I expected him to put in a transfer request if had a losing patch in January. But, when we were winning, I did not expect him to do it.
Now, I don';t really know how Andy Carroll and Luiz Suarez are going to fit into the squad together. Suarez will not be happy sitting on the bench(as he did against Chelsea) so he could quickly go down the same route as Fernandina if things don't change. I just don't see how Dalglish is going to change things to the point that both these guys AND Raul Meireles will be on the field at the same time. He might have to try a 4-3-1-2 formation with Meireles as a winger and Gerrard just behind Suarez and Carroll.
1-0 win over Chelsea. Raul Meireles becomes the first Liverpool Red to score at Stamford Bridge since Bruno Cheyrou in 2004, ending a goal-less streak of nearly 10 hours in West London. We need Skrtel to be healthy....that's right, NEED!
And we need to do something that we have found to be very hard to do over the past several years...beat teams that we should beat, in the Premier League. We can't afford losses or draws.....WINS are a MUST against weaker league opposition. This really is the name of the game, for us, over the remaining 4 months of the EPL season.
newbie original 06-02-2011, 07:09:PM .....didnt like how Liverpool managed the goal, they looked like a low-class team holding the 0-0.....
Man, that's our style! It's unfortunate that it has to be that way but it is. Unlike Arsenal, we can't put together a string of pretty passing that would make even Penelope Cruz look ugly. We just can't do that.......
Did I forget something? OH YES! A 1-0 win at Chelsea.
-------------------------
RAUL Meireles - the in-form player right now at Liverpool Football Club! Oh, and TAKE THAT Nady!!!!! TAKE THAT!
Take what? I thank him for giving us a 10 points lead ahead of Chelsea :D
newbie original 06-02-2011, 07:29:PM BULL-SH*T! you know exactly what I'm talking about!

Ok maybe he could be added to these 2(you were referring to Gerrard and Torres) as well, but he's hardly impressed so far. He's been average as the rest.
JUST BRUSH YOUR PRIDE ASIDE AND ADMIT IT.....you were overly critical of him and wrote him off as an inconsequential little nothing! He's proven you WRONG in the most emphatic fashion!

I never doubted his ability. He simply struggled at the beginning and was largely unimpressive.
As I said, I'd add him with Gerrard and Torres.
mnj2x 06-02-2011, 07:45:PM I think its fair to say miereles had a slow start and was struggling under hodgson. There is newfound confidence about him right now and its shining through. He has the ability no doubt. Now the key is being consistent.
creativemantra 06-02-2011, 07:58:PM Officially... WELL DONE!
the confidence and morale seems on a total high in the Pool dressing room right now
Coruja 06-02-2011, 09:42:PM Under Hodgson, the whole team was underachieving, not only Meireles.
Nimreitz 06-02-2011, 10:06:PM Dalglish!!
Recrero152 06-02-2011, 10:38:PM Congratulations on a fantastic and neccecary result. This'll give good hope for not only the players but for the supporters as well. Torres can bite the dust.
poet11 07-02-2011, 09:38:AM only one thing i like about liverpool being a former red devil is steven gerrard.i wish there were more players like him.when cristiano ronaldo and messi were exploring every corner of the net the great zinedine zidane claimed steven gerrard the best player in the world.i wish he lifts lifts at minimum 2 league titles and 2 more champions leagues as i find no one more deserving due to his commitment, loyalty, unlimited sacrifices although he knew there is a lot of work to be done at anfield.but for you only i wish liverpool spme gold.
newbie original 09-02-2011, 05:13:PM Player-Age:
Pepe Reina - 28....please do NOT go to Man United....we need you.
Glen Johnson - 26
Dan Agger - 26
Martin Skrtel - 26
Martin Kelly - 20
Maxi Rodriguez - 30....I really don't think this guy will be around for much longer
Lucas Pezzini Leiva - 24 ....he had a GREAT game against Chelsea!!!
Steven Gerrard - 30 .... I think it is almost a guarantee that he will be leaving in the summer(2011) or Jan 2012...most likely, he will go to Chelsea because he "wants to win an EPL title"
Raul Meireles - 27
Dirk Kuyt - 31
Luiz Suarez - 24
Andy Carroll - 22
Joe Cole - 29....yet to play under new manager Kenny Dalglish
Yes, Jamie Carragher is old, but I think we can get by without him. Having said that, he's certainly not doing us any harm.
As for substitutes:
Jonjo Shelvey - 18
David N'Gog - 21
poet11 10-02-2011, 02:56:AM pool fans dont i dont thing steV G will leave liverpool in summer.because u have very good owners Kenny ofcourse.wait for the summer i think this time the spending spree will be mostly from Lpool Manu chelsea
Nimreitz 10-02-2011, 06:28:AM Steven Gerrard - 30 .... I think it is almost a guarantee that he will be leaving in the summer(2011) or Jan 2012...most likely, he will go to Chelsea because he "wants to win an EPL title"
Shut the **** up. No way.
poet11 10-02-2011, 10:07:AM he wont leave liverpool for chelsea thats for sure. if he leaves its gonna be madrid. but i think he wont and hope he wont because i wanna see him play here and end his career.
i kinda like the new formation.napoli style. i think they can build on it. anyways hope liverpool returns for the title race rather than chelsea. i admire lampard, essien also drogba but i hate john terry so very much that my admiration for three great players cant overtake. dont get me wrong its not the wayne bridge thing its his face. the first time a saw his face i hated him like anything.
its not he looks ugly or something like that its his face i think hes a racist of some kind be it status related or anything, has bad character well we saw this part recently.but whenever i see his i feel like so ******* disgusted
newbie original 10-02-2011, 05:31:PM In the past(around 4-5 years ago), Gerrard has said that he wanted to win an EPL title. In recent years(after 2005), when reporters have asked him that question he's tried not to say "I want to win an EPL title at Liverpool"; he's just said "I want to win an EPL title". That tells me that he has no interest in the name of the club......he just wants to win it.
He's never said anything about "dreaming of becoming a Galactico"!!! He wants to win the championship in England and he is running out of time. Based on this, I don't think he will go to Spain or Italy/Germany. The problem is that in the EPL, his options are limited to:
1. Manchester United - he's not going to be sold to them
2. Chelsea - they wanted him in 2005 and I think they would gladly overpay for him
3. Manchester City - they would gladly overpay for him
Out of these 3 options, I think he would put Chelsea at #1 because he will want to play with Frank Lampard.
Personally, I have given up on him. I think he's just waiting for the opportune moment to leave us.
If he doesn't want to be here, then he can leave. If he doesn't want to help us win, then he shouldn't try to convince people otherwise....we can see right through him.
Why would he want to play with Lampard? Don't they f*ck each other up

i don't like liverpool, butt gerrard is a great player... he was/is giving his best in liverpool and you should appreciate everything he gave to this club... and if he want's to go now, then let him go... you can't expect liverpool to won epl this season against arsenal and man utd, and maybe chelsea, after series of bad games at the begining and i doubt they will even manage to win the place for cl... so, as i said, you should appreciate gerrard and all of his efforts and everything he gave to liverpool and you can only wish him luck in his next club, if he ever leave liverpool...
Nimreitz 11-02-2011, 05:46:AM Why would he want to play with Lampard? Don't they f*ck each other up
Exactly my thoughts.

So if Totti or De Rossi hands in a transfer request you're fine with it?
Newbie is just paranoid, Stevie isn't going to leave Liverpool ever. 2005 was the opportunity and he chose to stay.

newbie original 12-02-2011, 05:51:PM So, a 1-1 home draw with Wigan.
Like I said after the Chelsea game, we've struggled with consistency over the past few years. Realistically, 4th place is beyond us. These sorts of performances aren't going to hold up.
Skrtel played...where he was `100% or not....who knows. Gerrard's absence was crucial. Lucas is not a direct replacement for him. Suarez started.....couldn't score against a bottom feeder. Results like this sicken me to my very core.
Later.
newbie original 17-02-2011, 03:43:AM Andy Carroll's first game for Liverpool Football Club?
At Anfield, against the old enemy.............Manchester United.
newbie original 06-03-2011, 04:21:PM Are you kidding me? Liverpool 3-1 Manchester United? Huh?
So, let me get this straight......West Ham 3-1 Liverpool ---> Liverpool 3-1 Manchester United!!!!! HA!
This was a complete shock! We were coming in following that terrible defeat to West Ham. Quiet frankly, this game came too early for us. We were not really ready for it and we were only just getting to grips with the fact that 4th place is well and truly gone. It was their game to lose....AND THEY LOST IT!!!
What a performance by Dirk Kuyt! He never complains when we're going through a tough patch but works harder than anyone!!! ANYONE! And today, he got his reward! The first Liverpool hat-trick against Pantchester Poonited since 1990! HA!!!!
BTW, did you see the way that his first goal was set-up by Luis Suarez? WOW! He took out 3 United players by himself!!!!! WOWWWW!!!!
I cannot believe this result! CANNOT!
newbie original 06-03-2011, 04:43:PM Question from the SkySports reporter for Kenny Dalglish, after the game: "Kenny, was that the most enjoyable day for you since you've been back here at Liverpool?"

both are great players but Luis Suarez is gonna be a Liverpool legend. Being a Man u fan im saying this. i said this more than one occasion about him. Remember the hand ball incident during the WC??? he saved his team from a certain goal and got sent off then Gyan missed the penalty hitting the cross bar. these stuff only happens to special players.
Haarithan 07-03-2011, 04:43:PM Haha so who needs that flinging **** Fernando Torres when Boy-O-Boy Luis Suarez is there to ride us through ?? Ripped the United defence to pieces . And i guess i owe Nani a special thanks for that fabulous 2nd goal assist . Me thinks he cried for that more than his own injury . And what was van der sar trying to do after that first goal ?? Offside ?? Sorry , Howard Webb wasn't officiating then
newbie original 07-03-2011, 05:43:PM Haha so who needs that flinging **** Fernando Torres ....
Ian Holloway believes striker Fernando Torres is a "fantastic bit of business" for Chelsea but is adamant the Spaniard is not worth £50 million.
Torres is yet to justify his hefty pricetag after failing to score in a Blues shirt since his arrival at Stamford Bridge in January, but Holloway insists Torres is still a class act.
"He's a great player," Holloway said. "Is he worth that money? I don't think anyone is. Roman Abramovich has given it the old flex, 'Look at me!' Do I agree with it? No. Can I do anything about it? No.
"But if people are going to pay it, then he is. If someone wants to pay me £50m for my house I'll bloody sell it to him!
"I think they've bought a brilliant player. It just goes to show the gulf between what we're doing and what Chelsea are doing.
"We've already seen him here and he scored a brilliant goal against us [for Liverpool] so we've got to be on our game. Have a look at world football and tell me a better striker, whether he's in form or out of form.
"He's allowed to go out of form because he's still very young. I think he's still one of the best players in the world and Chelsea have done a fantastic bit of business."

yes the tears were for his mistake rather than the injury. but be a little bit polite dude towards him as jamie made a horrifying tackle.
but you are excused for your words towards torres :P what a joker. may be chelsea will win the champions league this year but ur team are back on track just need this season to end on a positive way. and what amazing business u guys made Suarez 22m Andy Carrol 35m=57m Torres=50m.Just 7 million lost.buying 2 young world class players for 7 million for a Judas. returning to the Nani-Jamie incident please do that on Torres please.
it may sound weird having been a manu fan(now transfered to arsenal) i hate Chelsea and Manchester City more than Liverpool. I would be the happiest man on the planet if chelsea win nothing and dont qualify for the champions league for next season and City,MU,Arsenal,Liverpool or anyone finish in the top four. Yes i want city to qualify also so that Mourinho doesnt replace Mancini if something goes wrong at Real.
It would more fun if Carlo leaves Cheslea after winning the champions league and goes to roma.I want the true TOP FOUR to return not clubs with just money and overrated players. John Terry captain of Chelsea and English national team(ex) misses the the penalty which would have won chelsea the CL and how??? losing balance and cries like a pussy. what an exceptional leader. only captain material in that england team is Gerrard.
newbie original 09-03-2011, 05:40:PM Bad news for our Europa Cup game against Braga in Portugal...Steven Gerrard is going miss the game(as per the Liverpool website)...no reason was given.
SOURCE: http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/gerrard-out-of-braga-clash
This season, he has already had to deal with groin and hamstring problems.
Meanwhile Andy Carroll is expected to play longer than the 15 minutes he played against Man United.
Luis Suarez is ineligible to play in this competition.
Haarithan 10-03-2011, 03:54:PM And even worse is that he could miss the rest of the season should he opt for the surgery :(
poet11 10-03-2011, 06:51:PM its better for gerrard if theres a chance that a surgery may heel his injury problems. get well soon stevi G one of the greatest players i have seen.
Haarithan 11-03-2011, 05:43:PM Yeah and thats been confirmed now . A minimum of 4 weeks in the sidelines :(
newbie original 11-03-2011, 05:50:PM And we lost 1-0 in the Euopra League game in Portugal. I really don't care about this tournament but, with 4th place out of the question, it appears to be all that we have.
Although, I wouldn't be too disappointed if we were knocked out of the Europa League tomorrow.
newbie original 18-03-2011, 06:47:PM So, we're out of the Europa Cup. We can focus on the EPL. That's all I can say man.
For the remaining Premier league games, we NEED Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll to be at their best....it's as simple as that.
MaSsiVe 19-03-2011, 01:21:AM http://www.esreality.com/files/placeimages/2010/75397-nelson_haha2.jpg
well done Braga!
newbie original 19-03-2011, 06:01:PM ^^^^^
They scored their ONLY goal from the penalty spot!
Other than a penalty, there was nothing between the 2 teams.
They won and they're through....congratulations, but don't over-do it by saying that they deserve more credit than they do......because they don't.
Filipower 19-03-2011, 07:19:PM So you deserved to go through, then? Was the penalty wrongly-given?
So, we're out of the Europa Cup. We can focus on the EPL. That's all I can say man.
For the remaining Premier league games, we NEED Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll to be at their best....it's as simple as that.
So, are you still keeping hope in the EPL? :O Or do you mean secure UEFA qualification? :D
newbie original 20-03-2011, 01:07:AM Focus on maximizing our points in the league. Whatever happens, as a result of that,........happens. But we need to get as many points as possible.
NEXT GAME: @ SUNDERLAND. They're in 9th place, so it's not going to be easy. Actually, this game is quite possibly one where we'll be quite luck to come away with maximum points......as disappointing as that sounds.
So you deserved to go through, then? Was the penalty wrongly-given?
They deserved to go through. Not us. We lacked creative flair in the 2nd game. We didn't deserve to win that game. Without Gerrard and Suarez, we're with our backs against the wall.
Just don't say that we were comprehensively beaten.....because we weren't.
newbie original 20-03-2011, 06:13:PM Ha! So we pulled it out and beat Sunderland 2-0. Luis Suarez was at his creative best on the 2nd goal. Dirk Kuyt scored the first.
Right now, we are cheering for Tottenham and Chelsea in the Champions League.
You know, last night I just couldn't stop thinking about this game. Such an important game it was. I had a dream that we lost 3-2.
Recrero152 20-03-2011, 07:35:PM I think Dalglish could really make something out of Liverpool at the next season, considering if he'll make any new purchases by then. They just might make it back to the top four.
newbie original 26-03-2011, 10:30:PM Next season, IF Steven Gerrard stays, we will be much better than we are this season. We'll have Luis Suarez for a full season and I think Lucas, again if he stays, is ready to step up.
newbie original 27-03-2011, 10:25:PM Gerrard takes swipe at Torres.....says he prefers 2 strikers (Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll) to one (Torres):
"Suarez has only played a few games but we know he will be a top player," Gerrard told Sky Sports 1. "Training and playing with him in his first few games he has been strong and technically good, but Fernando in his first year with us was frightening as well.
"But I think Liverpool are in a better position having two top forwards instead of one. I enjoyed playing behind Fernando but if you said I could have Fernando on form or Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez on form, I would take the two over one."
-----------------X-------------------
I agree. But I think that we will need to wait for Carroll to prove himself before truly knowing whether he is capable of living up to expectations.
newbie original 30-03-2011, 02:41:AM Andy Carroll scored his first goal for England, against Ghana.

newbie original 02-04-2011, 04:58:PM Our shirt Sponsors(since 2009), Standard Chartered, are saying that we need to target Asian players to expand the Liverpool brand into Asia. They cite Ji Sung-Park, at Man United, as an example.
They have also said that this is more important to them than us qualifying for the Champions League next season.
That's good to hear. Why, you ask? Because just 2-1 to West Bromwich Albion.
LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB ARE NOT going to qualify for next season's Champions League. And the Europa Cup may also not be possible.

newbie original 04-04-2011, 03:53:PM We're really not in the position to be dictating terms to anyone.

Referring to Liverpool's title honours James added: "Eighteen championships. I see myself trying to do the same things they have."
The Wall Street Journal said Maverick Carter, chief executive of LRMR Branding & Marketing, had expressed his desire to build James' portfolio internationally.
"We're not interested in talent or athlete representation but we think he is one of the most remarkable athletes of his time," FSG and Liverpool chairman Tom Werner told the newspaper.
"We believe we can open doors for LeBron and LeBron can open doors for us. Without purchasing Liverpool, we never would have been able to have this conversation."

I would appreciate if you do the same against GONERS.
newbie original 12-04-2011, 11:28:PM Our 1st half was stunning. 3 goals and complete dominance of the opposition. We eased up in the 2nd half. Luis Suarez was great again. What a player that guy is!
We need to build on this performance.
newbie original 13-04-2011, 07:14:PM So, it has been now made public (by Fenway Sports Group - John Henry and his band of merry men) that the New York Times has a stake in Liverpool Football Club. The New York Times Company owns a stake of 16.58% in the club.
They actually have invested in Fenway Sports Group......they likely view it as being a company that can make money. See the thing is that John Henry is smart enough to know that he will sell Liverpool FC AS SOON AS the price is high enough. He will profit significantly from the sale of Liverpool because he bought it for a bargain at 300 million. It is only a matter of time.
I can't see him being around in the long term.
Can you say Dubai SOS!
B9Goal 14-04-2011, 04:37:PM So, it has been now made public (by Fenway Sports Group - John Henry and his band of merry men) that the New York Times has a stake in Liverpool Football Club. The New York Times Company owns a stake of 16.58% in the club.
It's only a matter of time before Henry sells.
newbie original 15-04-2011, 02:12:AM The only reason he bought the club was to make a profit by selling at a higher price at some later time.
He has no interest in the long-term future of the club. He won't be building a new stadium.
Help? 15-04-2011, 03:54:AM I don't understand why all these businessmen invest in football clubs. The competition gets more intense every year, prices for top talent increase by almost double digits, wages are at ridiculous amounts and yet everybody still wants a piece. The only good thing is that the sport is getting more exposure and revenues, but that's not increasing fast enough to cover the rises in the transfer market and wages, as team after team keeps reporting ****ty numbers. The only thing that makes this kind of investment attractive is that the billionaires picked up a new hobby to waste money on. You just gotta hope that your club with catch the eye of some billionaire sucker before they all realize that they draining their millions down the toilet will provide about the same return as owning a team.
The time to buy a football club was in the 80's when they were all cheap and players actually cared more about their playing time rather than their wages. The modern day economics of owning a football club are disastrous and yet we are told to believe that all this big businessmen are uber smart and know the best way to take care of money. People will spend months looking for the right home to buy at half a mill, but about an hour deciding which ventures and assets to invest millions of dollars in. I hope NYT goes bankrupt.
B9Goal 15-04-2011, 03:22:PM I hope NYT goes bankrupt.
As much revenue as they generate per year, it is highly unlikely they will fold.
Help? 15-04-2011, 03:45:PM Bottom line is what matters not Revenue (which in itself has been consistently dropping for the last 5 years). That is not to say that I did any research, think NYT really ARE in danger of folding or even care a slight bit if they do. I was merely reacting to the stupidity of buying shares in a football club and thinking of it as an investment.
Ilaje 15-04-2011, 05:11:PM All of those shares are hardly substantial. Queen James' is purely a marketing tactic, then the NYT are long time associates of FSG/NESV. Both joined forces w/ them and probably had their stakes shifted or something.

Give them at least a full season before you make your judgement.
newbie original 01-05-2011, 06:03:PM ^^^^^For one of the 8 most expensive players of all time, TIME is not a privilege that Andy Carroll has.
Anyways a 3-0 win over Newcastle. Allow to quote myself: "a big win like this would have helped earlier in the season." Massive game bu Luis Suarez....what a buy this guy has been. Very similar to Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez in the sense that they are tireless workers. The difference is that Suarez is slightly better and his combination with Raul Meireles will be vital as long as they are with us. Speaking of Maxi....he scored again, following his hat-trick from last week. Carroll came on as a substitute, played around 20-odd minutes and proceeded to do sh*t-all.....AGAIN!
poet11 01-05-2011, 06:14:PM Hmm special player....and he is so hungry for the game its very awesome to see
B9Goal 02-05-2011, 04:50:PM Apparently from what I've been reading on some of the football sites and forums, no one is interested in going to Liverpool during the summer transfer window and instead trying to go to Barcelona, Real Madrid, or any team that is playing in Europe. I don't see why any player wouldn't want to join Liverpool considering the results they have been producing.
Azrael 02-05-2011, 07:00:PM Because they might not even play at Europe next season.
B9Goal 02-05-2011, 07:22:PM Because they might not even play at Europe next season.
Well that all depends on Tottenham responds from their loss to Chelsea doesn't it? :mrt1:
Who wants to play in the EUROPA?
B9Goal 03-05-2011, 03:28:PM Who wants to play in the EUROPA?
Better taking chances with EL than not playing in any European competition next season. Like they say, go out guns blazing.
Help? 03-05-2011, 06:54:PM I can't figure out if you are being sarcastic or you genuinely think Liverpool has any chance of finishing in the top 3 next season.
B9Goal 03-05-2011, 07:15:PM I can't figure out if you are being sarcastic or you genuinely think Liverpool has any chance of finishing in the top 3 next season.
I'm just echoing what Luis Suarez and Jamie Carragher were quoted in saying on goal.com. The players want to play in Europe next season because they feel that they can get to the final and win. If they can get another midfielder (Ever Banega) to go with the winger they just signed from France then they would have a great chance of success in the Premier League next season.

What the **** is your problem? You've reached for the sky and got it......yet you're still being a no good sh*t! Or are you just that bad of a sport ALL THE TIME? Can't take a defeat I suppose....that is something I can believe, coming from a United fan.
Is the fact that we are debt free while there is no end in sight to your mountain of debt keeping you up at night, prompting you to unload on here? Because, I can tell you that, if the tables were turned, Soccergaming.tv is NOT the kind of place that produces THOSE kinds of Liverpool fans who would wipe that pile of sh*t in your face (the way you are) in the Manchester United thread...NO SIR, that would not happen here.

I'm pretty sure you had a "you" rather than "they" initially in the "then they would have a great chance of success in the Premier League next season." quote. Which is why I assumed you thought i was a liverpool fan.
Liverpool has been "dangerous" in the EPL for 20 years now.

Once again, where was this sort of offense earlier in the season!!!
Maxi Rodriguez with his second hat-trick in 3 games.
Liverpool rises from 12th to 5th, under Kenny Dalglish.
Liverpool has scored 13 goals in its last 3 games and outscored opponents 13-2.
Tottenham AT Manchester City....on Tuesday. This is Spurs' game in hand on us. After this game, Tottenham and Liverpool will have played the same number of games. The next game for Tottenham and Liverpool is on Super Sunday.....oh, you guessed it:
LIVERPOOL vs TOTTENHAM....at stake, is the Europa League spot.
coxlenox 10-05-2011, 02:36:PM Liverpool's recent games have been incredible
Recrero152 10-05-2011, 05:15:PM To me, Liverpool have everything that they need to become a team to challenge for the title next year. Dalglish has money to spend with during the summer, the purchases of Carroll and Suarez(especially Suarez) have been good ones and they might completely explode in the next season and Joe Cole is highly rumored to leave Liverpool. They have good players and veterans in their team and we all know from previous experience that Dalglish is a manager that can win titles and inspire players to do well.
To me, Liverpool have everything that they need to become a team to challenge for the title next year.
Do they? (H)
What makes you think of that? Other than Suarez, Gerrard, Meireles and Kuyt, thats a very average team. Many of their first team players wouldn't even be in the first team of mid-table EPL teams. On top of that, Gerrard is no longer as sharp anymore and Liverpool's team chemistry is poor. Their motivation for winning is 0. They don't have that winning mentality.
What makes you think that Andy Carroll is so great? He's the most overrated guy at the moment. Just because he's been bought a ridiculous price doesn't mean he's that good. He seems to have the potential, sure. But he only had a decent EPL season. You can't judge on a single season. Also, Liverpool is probably the worse EPL team to be at if you wanna develop as a young footballer.
Help? 11-05-2011, 03:29:AM Its the same story every year Nady. Liverpool are a signing or two away from top 2 finish, Arsenal are a season of experience away from winning the EPL, Chelsea can crush anybody if they decide that they feel like doing it and United are on the endless downward spiral that will see them struggle to make the top 8 soon enough.
Arnau 11-05-2011, 03:51:AM Win a ******* EPL losers.
Recrero152 11-05-2011, 03:17:PM Do they? (H)

As for the team chemistry, as I previously said, we know that Dalglish can inspire players to do well. And I never said that Carroll was "great", I said that he was good and I stick by that considering his work at Newcastle. We have to wait longer to be able to say more about him in Liverpool.
Dalglish said he's gonna stay only till the rest of the season right? Dalglish is very good, but I certainly can't see Liverpool challenging for the title next season. It will take a while to build a team because right now its full of unmotivated average players.
newbie original 12-05-2011, 09:49:PM Kenny Dalglish has been appointed as the long-term manager of Liverpool; he signed a 3-year contract.
First:
Personally, I would have preferred that we looked for someone else. Preferably bring back Rafa. If not, then atleast make an effort to search for the best guy for the job. This seems like laziness on the part of the board.....they just picked the first guy that they could think of....the easiest solution.
Second:
You DO NOT make this announcement with a massive game coming up in a couple of days. You just don't. We have a huge game with Tottenham for the final Europa League spot. It is a must win game for us....simple as that. By announcing this, the players and particularly the manager will be more relaxed than they should be .....going into this game. They will have lost that edge; the fear of the unknown will now have eased and I would not be surprised if we let our guard down against Spurs.
Summary:
Okay choice. Terrible timing.
newbie original 12-05-2011, 09:51:PM ....Other than Suarez, Gerrard, Meireles and Kuyt, thats a very average team.....
I like that.
Just a few months ago, Liverpool had 2 above average players - Torres and Gerrard. Now, we've got more than 2.
Wait, did I just pull an ManU and turn a negative into a positive?
Are you watching, Merseyside?
:bob::bob::bob::bob::bob:
1. Owen
2. 19
Thats it.
I notice that as well, who thought Owen will celebrate this day in United's shirt. That was insult to injury ;).
newbie original 16-05-2011, 03:53:AM As I expected, a Europa League spot is out the window.
Tottehham 2-0 Liverpool at Anfield.
So what do you guys think......is Steven Gerrard going to be at Liverpool next season?
newbie original 16-05-2011, 03:55:AM Honestly, if Chelsea comes calling, I think Gerrard would leave in a heartbeat. His excuses/reasons would be:
1. "I want to win the Premier League. Chelsea is always competing for the League. They are a club that gives me the best opportunity to win the EPL."
2. "At this point in my career, I need to be playing Champions League Football next season".
Haha no way Chelsea would want him. Gerrard, like Lampard is past his best IMO.
Can't think of any team that would want him at this age TBH.
Again, unpredictable things happens. I was laughing at rumours about Torres moving to Chelsea.
poet11 16-05-2011, 05:09:AM Yeah I do. Real Madrid would sign if he gave the go ahead and say to Kaka go and find a club who believe in one season wonders like you. Gerrard is still productive and could give Real Madrid something extra even if he just comes back from injuries unlike Kaka. But he won't leave Liverpool ever after turning down Real Madrid on numerous occasions and Chelsea. He is the only bloody player in that England squad who I would feel sorry for not winning a World Cup.
Let's come back to our Gerrard's discussion.
I think Milan, Inter and Juve might be interested as well. He won't leave Liverpool for another EPL team for sure.
Help? 16-05-2011, 06:16:PM Liverpool might forgive him if he moved to Manchester. City that is, he would get killed if he went to United. It would make sense too. City are in CL, they want big name guys, they can afford him and he is still better than whatever they got. And if he wins EPL for City, then Liverpool fans will be almost as happy about it as if they won it themselves.

Liverpool is the most successful English club in European competition, having won five European Cups, the last in 2005, and three UEFA Cups. The club currently rank third in Europe and sixth in the world with the most international titles won.

Could well return back to the top 4 in BPL and also hit the FA Cup if they play some consistent football . I can but dream .

IMO It could be a blessing in disguise. But concerning your transfer targets, they all want to play in the Champions League (most of them wanting to play for Barcelona). I doubt Hazard will come to Anfield and Aquillani has already said that he is staying at Juventus.
Haarithan 23-05-2011, 05:23:PM I feel Aquilani will be back in a matter of time , that Pirlo move to Juve has injected some spark for Liverpool fans . Obviously Juve don't want to pay the 20mil asking price to Liverpool . But that's what I think , not sure about anything at the moment.
Regarding Hazard , there's absolutely no chance that he ll sign with us , I think he ll most probably go to Arsenal .
poet11 23-05-2011, 09:48:PM Hazard said he wants to come to Arsenal. He has been saying that for two years now but its good if we get him now after the season he has had.
