Even with uninstalls and reinstalls, I'm getting the same edited teams in my database. This is perplexing because I am deleting every trace of the game that I know of and installing from the CD. But somehow, these edited teams are still showing up! What gives?

Hello my Friend! I solve your problem NOW!

Download the CCleaner! Uninstall FIFA, then delete all Folders according to FIFA. Also the one on your Documents. Then open CCleaner, and clean the registry! Then run CCleaner again normal and install FIFA. Now you have an absolut clean FIFA. But you need the EA patch then.

You might also need to delete and reinstall CM09; maybe some of the edited files are being held by it. Also be sure to completely delete the FIFA09 folder from Program Files> EA Sports (if that is where it was installed to). By the way thanks for all your edits; you've made and shared some great teams!
