Why is it soooo difficault to control a bouncing ball. Everytime I'm in position to trap the ball, a player BEHIND me will step through my player and effortlessly steal the ball. What should I be doing while waiting for the ball? Sprint? Shield? Praying?

PS Is this something the patch makers could fix or can only EA right the wrong?

I have had the same problem...

I believe the "E" button for sheilding may be the one to try... I might try it now mysel and see if it works...

The problem with the shielding button is that it doubles as the hard tackle button.

I've been red carded more often than not when waiting for the ball to arrive.

My guy always seems to be stuck in syrup???

shielding is not so simple

I know it's not simple but my beef is with the fact that my player is in the better position to receive the ball by far, but no matter which button I press, the oppossing players seem to be able to steal the ball.

This often creates idiotic situations where my opposite number steps 'through' my guy, or I'll try to do an first touch pass and my player will run around or after the ball until the opponent takes it. Not very inspiring...

I agree about this, snotgrot! And another thing that I dislike in FIFA2001 is that when my attacker gets the ball I want him to run faster, but instead he STOPS and the opposite defender immediately steals the ball... Itīs like this all the time, and I would like to know if thereīs something to do about this in the amain-file? Is it possible to change the settings so that the game becomes more smooth and my players donīt stop after running just a few meters?

I don't think you'll be able to change this in the aimain file. To do this you'd need to be able to change the 'formation lock-in' factor that FIFA 2001 has. It seems very reluctant to allow the players out of their formation in a more dynamic fashion. Yes if you time your pass just right, the ball will be passed to someone in space, but it's hard to get your receiver to iniitiate a run for instance.

I've been trying to get my guy into position and pressing sprint like crazy and this seems to help in some instances. Sometimes though, this causes my guy to slow or stop as you say. I must be missing something...

I'm hoping that non-EA patches can sort this out but I have my doubts.

Well, you could try volley(double tap) using short pass/long pass/shoot, this usually make my player runs towards the ball and kick it away when it is bouncing, not always work though, but worth a try anyway
