I've just finished watching the second leg. River only got tie with Belgrano 1:1 with one missed penalty and plenty of chances to score. One lucky goal for the visitor and River drops.

What a shame. They have so many passionate fans who would do anything for the club. I hope they will get back to the elite soon.

WTF, I thought them and Boca were the Barca/Madrid of Argentina. I didn't even know they were close to this.

always liked River, my favourite argentinian team...shocking.
but I did see it coming considering the disastrous season they were having.

"good thing" is Erik Lamela is a magnificent young player and should definitively be moving to Europe this summer...I wonder who's getting him, just hope he doesn't end up in the russian league or so.

In Argentina, teams are not relegated according to the current season's league table, but according to the average number of points they've won per match over the last two seasons, plus the current season, in their current division. Big clubs (or indeed any club who manage to do well for a season) don't get punished for one bad season. River, though, finished 15th in the season-long tables - which, since the championships themselves are disputed over half-seasons, are used solely to decide the teams who go to the Copa Sudamericana - for both 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Yeah, I forgot their relegation was based over a few years; or 2 Aperturas and 2 Clauseras (I'm sure I ****ed up at least one of those words). Makes is even more pathetic.

Mexico has something similar to that. It's basically made to keep the top clubs from easily being relegated. River must have sucked royally.

Quite frankly, I don't think anyone really gives an unfathomable amount of **** that YOU do not give an unfathomable amountof **** about this.

People, the relegation system in Argentina function like this:

3 seasons (In this case: 2008/2009, 2009/2010 and 2010/2011),the points made in 3 seasons is divided by 3 and gives the average of the team. The last two averages descend directly to the National B or Second Division , the two before they play "promotion", the promotion is a game round, in which 3 of the second division faces the penultimate of the average premium (San Martin de San Juan - Gimnasia de La Plata, ascended San Martin de San Juan). and 4 of the penultimate second division against the averages of the first (Belgrano River, ascended Belgrano). I hope be clear, I have to use the google translator, sorry for my bad english :D.

PS: In the next season: Racing, Boca Juniors and San Lorenzo de Almagro, my team will fight to not have to play promotion.

Are you serious? So next season, Boca Juniors could be gone?

Yep, in the start of this season. Boca has 100 points, San Lorenzo 99 points and Racing 98 points. Only have down of this teams: Olimpo de Bahia Blanca, Tigre, and the new 4 teams (Atletico Rafaela, Union de Santa Fe, Belgrano de Cordoba y San Martin de San Juan).

No worries, River will be back next year fosho', but let this serve as an example to the ones who dragged us to Nacional B. The relegation was mainly due to them selling the yound talent too early and bringing in coaches who disregarded the style of play that characterized River throughout their history. Best of wishes for Almeyda who retired to take care of the team and who without a doubt will transmit his warrior spirit to his pupils.

Argentina has lost very important "Clasicos"; Rosario-Newell's, Boca-River, Gimnacia-Estudiantes, Huracan-San Lorenzo...sup wit that?

Yup if River doesn't tumble we're definitely back to 1ra, and I'm kinda glad to see another team with history in the top spots like Rosario Central. River has made Nacional B more interesting for me rather than watching 1st Division with so many teams that have zero history and very little fan support aside from their local supporters.

1. River Plate 30 pts.
2. Instituto 30 pts.
3. Rosario Central 27 pts.
