What do these teams have to do with Audi?

I remember something similar, called Opel Masters, from the 1990s, but all the teams that participated in that competition had Opel/ General Motors as their main sponsor back then. If memory serves me right, the teams that took part in that competition were Bayern, Milan and Paris.

NOSTALGIA RUSH!

the Opel Masters! man, those were the days! I can still clearly see Edgar Davids making his first appearances and scoring for Milan (Summer '96, iirc) ...

and yeah, that was with Opel shirt-sponsored teams (Bayern, Milan, and PSG):

even if they're not shirt sponsors, Audi are corporate sponsors/partners of Barça, Milan, and Bayern ... you can look it up ...

FORMAT

this Audi Cup has a conventional 'semis, 3rd place, final' configuration ... the Opel Masters format, though, was awesome: 45 minute matches, and all 3 matches on one night, in succession ... the only pre-season tournament I know of which retains that format is the TIM Trophy in Italy ...

We'll win that with the Barça B bad players players because the good ones are in U19 world cup.

Bayern at least are playing their first team, Bundesliga starts in like less than 2 weeks. Barca U-19 would get demolished. Hope Milan brings their stars at least.

Just joking, most first teams players are going to play some minutes. Thiago, Fontàs, Villa, Afellay, Iniesta... , Puyol, Xavi and Pedro are training apart from the group so i dont know if they are travelling.

EDIT: that's the squad, we are going with all: Masip, Balliu, Muniesa, Rosell, Riverola, Carmona, Jonathan Dos Santos, Cuenca, Soriano, Gustavo Ledes, Armando Lozano, Javi Espinosa, Valdés, Pinto, Puyol, Piqué, Maxwell, Fontàs, Abidal, Busquets, Keita, Thiago, Iniesta, Xavi, Afellay, Jeffren, Pedro y Villa.

Kinda cool that van Bommel played for all 3 European Clubs in this Tournament.

Agreed, waste of time to me if they don't.

I don't think that AC Milan and Bayern are very concerned about winning. It's more about pre-season training than anything else.

Pre-=season trophies don't count.

Players like Van Buyten or Lahm played all the 90 minutes, we make 2 teams for everyhalf, second half we played the bad Barça B and players and some Juveniles so what are you talking about?

Wonderful goal

Like I said, the Bundesliga starts in a week and a half. And the first round of the German Cup is probably this weekend. Your league has 3.5 weeks to go. But van Buyten isn't a good player anyway and Lahm doesn't have a backup.

But i don't think they can play 180 minutes in 2 days. BTW we have the supercup against Madrid in two weeks too.

had yesterday's games running on my DVR while got some sh!t done late last night ... from what I saw:

good for Zlatan, getting a goal early in his 45-minute stint; should have also had an assist to go with it ...

Kroos looked impressive, as part of a Bayern attacking unit that looks far more advanced in their pre-season ... Mario Gómez needs to convert more, but otherwise should be a starter for both club and country ... in terms of defence, Bayern looked really vulnerable down the middle ...

Milan's defence didn't impress either ... Nesta showed he can't be starting big games any more -- Thiago Silva and Philou Mexès (when he recovers) should always be the preferred centre pair ...

Taye Taiwo played as bad a debut as one could, and seemed incompetent against Arjen almost every time I looked up ... I'm hoping that, being his first pre-season match, it was just a lack of conditioning, which was thoroughly exposed by as good an opponent as he'll likely ever face ...

I didn't think much of Allegri's tactics -- playing 3 DMs along with a battling AM is just ugly ...

EDIT: and a big thanks to Az for negging the first post ... bringing the pettiness over to the soccer forum, I see -- classy! :borat:

Yes, Jonathan is playing as RB and is surprisingly good.

Its me or Thiago is a really good header? he's small but already score some headers before with the first team.

haha did they really give out a trophy to every team? like everybody's a winner? ghey!

nice backheel goal by Zlatan ... and as happened so often last season, he also got the assist for the assist ...

lastly, I bet Barça fans are saying: Francesc who? #4 -> Thiago :-D

Nimreitz

They should say that. Kind of unbelievable that the talk early this summer was Barca letting Thiago leave for a relatively small fee.

Cesc actually polarizes the fans, some want him back and other ones hate him or just ignore him, he was booed by this sector last season. Those people's hate against Cesc has 3 stages. 1) Cesc the traitor 2) too much money to pay for someone who was ours 3) He would plug Thiago's development.

I love Thiago. If this season's kit wasn't so ugly, I'd definitely get one with his name.
