Football Manager 2012 allows you to take control of any club in over 50 nations across the world, including all of the biggest leagues across Europe.

You’re in the hot-seat, which means you decide who plays and who sits on the bench, you’re in total control of tactics, team-talks, substitutions and pitch-side instructions as you follow the match live with the acclaimed 3D match engine allowing YOU to make the difference!

As the boss you’ll also have full control of team affairs away from the pitch:

Will you spend big-money on expensive superstars or put a focus on scouting for wonderkids?
How will you approach training & match preparation?
Will you be the chairman’s best friend or always demand the best investment from the board?
How do you react when a young star has problems – a shoulder to cry on or a clip round the ear?
And how will you deal with tricky questions from the media?

Now it’s time to put your opinions to the test.

New & improved key features for Football Manager 2012:

Manage Anywhere, Anytime – the ability to add or take away playable nations in your saved game as often as you want. Manage in that country at the start of the next season - meaning you don’t have to decide on which nations are playable at the start of your career.

Transfers & Contracts – significant changes to the transfer and contract systems, including loyalty bonuses, better implementation of amateur and youth contracts, an improved transfer centre and the ability to lock areas of the contract negotiation when you aren't prepared to budge. This helps you to manage your budgets and gives you flexibility in what you offer money hungry players, or agents, as incentives.

Scouting improvements – using several real life scouting reports, a new in-game report was devised which includes squad analysis, tactics information and information about goals scored and conceded alongside lots of other scouting improvements, giving you all the information you need to prepare before kick-off and throughout the season.

3D Match Improvements – new animations, a whole new crowd system, improved weather system, more stadiums, plus two brand new cameras - "Behind Goal" and "Director Cam" as well as all other camera angles being reversible - meaning you can watch and analyse every aspect of every game.

Intelligent Interface – a new adaptive layout system, which means the higher your screen resolution, the more info is easily at your fingertips. The new interface also contains new filters, customisable columns, a new tactics screen, and lots of new overview screens.

Tone – a whole new level has been added to team talks and conversations, with the new tone system, which allows you to specify the way you want to say things – be as cool as a cucumber by saying things calmly or throw tea cups around by saying things with passion. There are 5 different tones to choose from with specific comments per tone.

Brand New Tutorial – standing separate from the main game, a mode to help new players find their way around the game easily, whilst also offering tips to experienced managers on how to get the most out of the game, as well as a new in-game “how to” system.

On top of these key innovations, there are lots of areas of the game that have had huge improvements, such as the media system, press conferences, the youth system, newgens, the social networking options, friendlies, international management and many more which will be detailed in a series of video blogs over the coming months, alongside more information about Football Manager 2012.

The ability to add and subtract leagues could spice up saves when you want to do something different, but I dunno how'll they'll pull it off properly.

Transfer and contracts improvements could be what I've been waiting for for a while, and I hope that they implement a buy-and-loan-back option.

I love scouting, so that sounds nice, although it sounds like it'ps mostly opposition scouting, hope it's both.

3D and layout improvements are peripheral, although having passed on FM2011, I might finally give 3D a proper go, the youtube vid looks nice enough.

Tone would finally add some variety to team talks, and could give a sense of personality to every manager.

Ultimately, it all looks like finetuning, nothing major has been announced yet, just tweaks here and there.

I'll definitely get it though, because I'll have plenty of new things to do having passed on 2011, and I assume the DLR system will have been ironed out, so I'm looking forward to that.

It's that time of the year again, ey?

The option to add and substract leagues sounds great, if it works, especially for people who don't have such good PC's. The improvement on scouting reports sound promising. I think in FM 2011 SI finally came close to getting the 3D engine right. In fact I made the switch to playing FM in 3D, but any improvements there are also more than welcome. Don't know about the tone feature on the team talks. Will have to see how that works out.

Anyway, exciting as always.

What saves do you think you'll do?

I'm definitely gonna start with a Chelsea save, and then probably move on to a Journeyman save and an Israeli club and country save where I'll try to make them the biggest footballing nation in the world.

Might give Malaga and PSG a try, too.

I think I might even buy FM this year again. The last one I bought and still play is 09.

I will probably do a Chelsea and PSG save. I can never do a Utd one because I somehow have an attachment to our players and could never sell them, even in a game.
Chelsea have an interesting squad and there's also the added bonus of having enough funds.

Zlatan
15-08-2011, 07:48:PM
Traditionally I'll play with Arsenal in the demo and Ajax in my first save in the full game. Might try out Liverpool too, for an easy run to start with. They have a nice squad to develop in the game I think.

I'm also considering PSG, Borussia Dortmund and Udinese.

Dortmund is a great idea, as long as their young aussie are high potential! :P

Az, you said no major features yet, I think adding/subtracting leagues is a huge feature, and would have taken an age to implement well. Generally SI only implement something when they believe it's at a good level, so I'm excited about that. I've had so many saves in the past where I've later wished I had more or different leagues.

Azrael
16-08-2011, 10:27:AM
Yeah, I meant other than that, although it depends on how it's implemented.

Nimreitz

Cool new feature. Obviously I'll start with Bayern first, play a season or two, and then get frustrated that I'm not incinvible and quit. Second game... meh, probably City, maybe Dortmund.

Alex
16-08-2011, 11:38:AM
I'll start a game, get the shïts that it's too far behind the real world to begin, and quit...

I can never get into a club game, because by the time it comes out, usually the world in club football has changed too much. I don't need 100% accuracy, that's obviously impossible, I just want it at the start of my game!!

I might also start with an Australian U19s side or something like that, until I get right into the future.

I'll probably try the DLR thing again with a small club. Leaning towards First Vienna FC, Austria's oldest football club, and they seem classy. From Prague to Vienna would be a nice step aswell (two great opera cities! ;)). Austria is a pretty lame football country, though, so I'm not sure yet.

And yeah, PSG, Malaga, Anzhi... might give those a shot.

Btw, having listened to parts of the podcasts I've learned two new features that I like:

- Entertainment factor. When appropriate, if your team plays entertaining football it will be appreciated by the fans.

- Supporter types. Each team's fans will have a certain profile, depending on their ratings in several categories: affluence, patience, passion, loyalty and temperament. This means that you can have lots of gloryhunters who will leave the team when it's not doing well, etc.

Alex
24-08-2011, 11:37:AM
Yeah, that sounds cool. The supporter thing type thing is sort of from FM Live.

I'm excited about this and FIFA 12. FIFA 12 is apparently finally the same on pc as the consoles! Which means I can get it on pc instead of 360 (or as well as), and get good downloadable content.

Yeah same. Takes up tons of RAM, and totally overkill. I'm not going to lie, a lot of what I've done so far has been look at the attributes of the guys I took in the Draft.

Biggest annoyance for me so far is that the back button isn't good while it HAS been good for years. It goes back every single little step; so if you click multiple parts of a player's profile and then try to go back to the squad screen it takes a ton of clicks.

Can't search for players by PPM, despite the option to do it. Pick any PPM to find players with, and it will come back with no players. I'm going to check and see if the Libero works this year in the Tactics Creator and I'll be ******* pissed if it still doesn't.

yoyo913
09-10-2011, 06:34:AM
This is the first FM where I'm not excited for the release. Last year I was excited about dynamic reputation (which I haven't even used much), and the year before there was custom editor leagues (which I also didn't use much). This year the big feature is to add a league not selected at the start of the game which doesn't add much to my gaming experience since I'm usually happy with the leagues selected and don't have too many long term games.

Apart from that the functionality of the game has improved but there are no real new features that I'm excited to play with.

Nimreitz
09-10-2011, 07:55:AM
The Tactics creator seems a little better. Just did two experiment games with Liberos. One behind a lone center back, the other behind two center backs. The Libero generally will sit right on top of the lone center back (in my case Luiz sitting on top of Terry) instead of getting forward, although when the CB drifted to the side for whatever reason he would step in front hesitantly. The game with the 3 defenders, on the heat map at the end of the game Richardo Carvalho's average position was actually higher up the pitch than the two central defenders, so that's very promising.

The solution to getting a libero forward in a 4 back set while keeping one man back to mark the lone #9 IMO seems to be to play with a sweeper, who will keep an eye on the forward, and then give extremely attacking instructions to the CB, although keep him in check with man-marking the #9 on defense. Didn't work in FM11. Hope it works here, but I have some hope.

Also, I think the interface is probably a lot more straight forward for beginners, but I'm having a hell of a time getting to things quickly in this version. So many different tabs when in previous versions everything was on one screen. Just as an example, you used to be able to right click on a player in the formation, and the player instructions would pop up next to the formation. This year you have to go to a separate tab and then pick the player from a drop down menu, which is confusing and unnecessary.

Nimreitz
09-10-2011, 08:47:PM
If you want to use a sweeper keeper, let me just give you some advice:

Marc-André ter Stegen

Nimreitz

Just noticed that the Assistant Report tells you the best role for each player in each position. Certainly takes a lot of guess work out of the game for beginners.

Azrael
12-10-2011, 12:22:AM
Wondering about how the game figures that out, because I definitely disagree with a bunch of them.

Anyway, after a little look at Chelsea, I think I'll start one with City and wait for the real game to do Chelsea. Currently looking to sign a CB (need someone better than Lescott), RB (same, need someone better), MC (would like someone capable of playing a deep-lying playmaker role) and AM (cover for the 3 positions or at least improvement for the wing) if possible. Lahm rejected my contract, so I'm hoping to get Srna, Hummels, Gotze and Hamsik.

Don't care much for a lot of the display changes, and with my last game being 2010, I feel like there's so many things I need to get acquainted with.

EDIT: For now, I'm going for:

Hart
Zabaleta-Kompany-Lescott-Clichy
Toure-DeJong
Silva-Aguero-Nasri
Tevez

Nimreitz
12-10-2011, 01:56:AM
Probably an algorithm based on attributes and PPMs? If you disagree it's probably because the match engine thinks the role is different than what happens in real life.

How the **** did you afford Modric, Gotze and Hummels?

Slid wages over to transfer fee and had about 94m to spend. I think Hummels was 28m and Gotze was 54m, for a total of 82m. Sold Tevez for 20m over 4 years, slid his wages into transfer fees. Bought Modric for 55m over 4 years. Actually still had like 15m more to spend.

Azrael

I just really like the team with Reus, Arango, De Carmago, ter Stegen, Dante, and Nordveit. They need a goalscorer though. Fired up the game with Borussia Dortmund. Very exciting team, and attempted to make it more exciting with my first signing: Xherdan Shaqiri.

Die Borussen and I then won our first prize: the German Super Cup vs. Schalke - 3-0 (Kagawa (excellent), Zidan and Grosskreutz). For the first time in FM I saw a goalkeeper get sent off for a handball (outside of the area, naturally). Fahrmann caught the ball and a glitch seemed to move him over the line. Sounds fun man, I am ending up having my customary first game as Bayern. Purchased Reus; my goal is to have an all German XI in the future. Neuer; Boateng, Badstuber, Lahm, Hummels; Schweinsteiger, Kroos, Reus, Muller, Gotze; Gomez.

Only have to purchase the two Dortmund players to make it happen too! Hoping for Hummels in 2012, and Gotze in 2013 to replace Robben. Would also love to get Sahin in (I consider him German).

Is it true that there is a some kind of "bug" - goalkeepers positioning is awful? Demo was good although.

Juventino
24-10-2011, 03:22:PM
It may have been a freak accident instead of a glitch. I've seen real life goalkeepers lose their concentration that way... PSV's Isaksson did it last year. He's very clumsy.

Actually Nimreitz, I'm also looking to have an all-German team with all those talents (or at least a very high percentage). I already created a shortlist. I definitely want Ter Stegen to replace Weidenfeller eventually, and I'm also looking at Reus who's a realistic target right now. Some of the others may be out of my league now, like Muller (and I'm not sure about Schurrle), but that may be a different matter in a few years.

Do you have some recommendations for German talents at smaller teams? Ones that are perhaps unknown to me because they haven't made their debut for the national team yet, but are starting to make their mark in Bundesliga.

yoyo913
24-10-2011, 05:17:PM
Apparently it is a bug, in the default training setting set for your team and every AI team the slider is low on whatever affects positioning, therefore that goes down a lot (I've heard 1 - 2 attributes a month). Positioning is important for goalkeepers. However SI said they are looking into it and will provide a patch soon.

Zlatan
24-10-2011, 06:49:PM

Honestly, with the exception of the big obvious talents, I do a pretty bad job of following the non-Bayern part of the Bundesliga. Ilkay Gundogan starts with you at Dortmund and he's considered a really good prospect (been getting some callups recently, although I'm not sure if he's been capped... probably since they wouldn't want to risk him switching to Turkey). This year's Fritz Walter medals went to ter Stegen (U-19), Julian Draxler at Schalke (U-18), and Emre Can, a 17 year old in the Bayern system (U-17). I'd imagine all of them. For perspective, Gotze took the U-18 medal last year and I guess he was ineligible this season for U-19?

EDIT: You do have a good start though with Schmelzer, Hummels, Bender (oh, another suggestion would be the other Bender), Gotze, and Grosskreutz (although I'm not Grosskreutz's biggest fan). The hardest part is going to be finding a striker as Germany seems to not be producing them. Peniel Mlapa might be your best bet if I had to take a stab in the dark, but I don't really know.

I don't think I can fully commit to this game. Unless I play River plate from Argentina and bring them back to the first division, or wait till "God" releases SG 2012. :(

I'm not sure i'm comfortable with the term "God" ;)

In all seriousness, i know 2011 never happened, but maybe this year after patches are all out etc. i might have a look at having another go. Or if someone else is up for it i'll give my support.

So I was kinda looking around for a... ahem, free version of the game, but doesn't seem like that's the case yet. I might have to purchase it sometime in the near future.

I'm in a bit of a rut with gaming. I'm kinda tired of Manager Mode in FIFA. Although the online features seem really fun, I still haven't bothered to play it. And 2K's attempt at frustrating the **** out of the My Player fans is working, because I haven't touched the game in over a week...

Anywho, this would be my first stab at a pure simulation game, so naturally I'll be a complete noob. Instead of making a new thread, I'll just post it here. Any of you guys have tips you can share for an FM noob?

Any advice, tips, help would be very much appreciated. (Y)

I'd actually recommend starting a new thread Skip, just for your newb questions. I know I would be more willing to check that thread and help out with any answers and I'm sure others are the same. If you post in here it might get overlooked.

First game they always recommend taking a big club, and even better if you support the club, so probably take over Barca to try out the game.

I'm finally playing this now (didn't play the demo).

The interface is frustrating the hell out of me.

It seems much harder to do basic things than previous additions. It's all there, it's almost like they've made it harder on purpose.

Cool, especially Draxler looks really good. His best attribute is probably his either footedness (eh?), great quality to have as a CM/AM. I think I know him in real life aswell because he made his debut vs. Inter last year in the Champions League.

But yes, the core of the team is pretty much set for years to come. I think I'll look abroad for a striker... Barrios is really good, but I've never managed Jovetic before, and I'd love to have him. A creative, technical striker. (and he scored an amazing goal vs. Juventus last night.) I hope I can sign him and Reus next summer (2012).

Draxler is famous because I think his game against Inter was so late that it violated Germany's child labor laws. Shalke's president responded that it's not like they have an army of 14 year olds working all night.

I actually was just looking at Jovetic myself, looks to improve a bit in the first season too.

Agree with you Alex about things being harder to find. Still haven't figured out how to train PPMs in this version.

Physically got the game, installed in a moment, but now I'll probably have to wait for a day or so just for the update, since it's going at 30kb/s. Was seriously considering not getting it since I barely touched the demo, but there's just too many things I want to do with it.

Played demo, was satisfied and then bought original. Enjoying playing right now and laughing at people who are waiting crack, I don't think it's gonna be cracked this year. Took Bayern but really weird that Usami is missing. And if FM could get FIFA license, then it would be perfect game.

Yeah, I feel the same about Usami. Sure he's no world beater, but he's a decent player. Actually doing really well for the Bayern Amatures lately, and he had a nice goal a couple days ago in the German Cup in a blowout of Ingolstadt.

Just because no one else probably saw it, he posted the same thing in the SG United Screenshot Thread, this thread, Chelmsford City thread, and Screenshot thread. And a direct link to filesonic (which is super shady and I would have never followed it). Thought it was funny.

Yeah just filling the random link of a possible spambot. I have a filesonic premium account actually.

30-10-2011, 04:12:PM
Me too. And File Serve (which I prefer because of issues with IDM), Hot File, Mega Upload and Rapid Share...the amount I've spent on download accounts, I could have just bought real stuff.

Nimreitz
30-10-2011, 07:15:PM
Mega and Fileserve seem to be fast enough without me buying a premium account. Plus most stuff I see is on Sonic, so I've been okay with just it for now. Used to have Rapidshare, but people have ditched it since they changed the way they paid uploaders.

Alex
31-10-2011, 01:11:PM
My worry isn't speed, it's stopping and starting downloads, multiple downloads etc. Can't do that without a premium account

Alex
31-10-2011, 01:14:PM
FSo isn't as good as FS, RS, HF or MU for use with a download manager, and struggles with multiple simultaneous downloads.

You're right though, RS has lost loads of popularity. Most stuff seems to be File Serve or Hot File mainly these days

Anybody noticed that when you're in a game and do an ALT+TAB to check out Firefox or whatever, the game now stops? It doesn't exactly pause, but when you click FM again it's basically still in the same minute it was. That annoys the crap out of me.

Azrael
08-11-2011, 01:08:AM
Really? I think that's good. If I have to urgently check something else, I'd rather the game stopped than kept going.

Filipower
08-11-2011, 01:13:AM
But that's what pause is for! If I'm 3-0 up against Gil Vicente at 70 minutes, I want to check out facebook while the team see the game out...
