View Full Version : FIFA 98
CANADIAN_10 18-06-2001, 04:04:AM Guys, today I have found my fifa 98 cd and installed it to my pc. Played it about 10 friendly games and realized that fifa 2000/2001 is not a soccer game at all. I appologize to the people who is in love with fifa 2001, but it is true. 98 got better game play then fifa 2000/2001 but the graphics sucked bad comparing it to fifa 2001. I got used to fifa 2000/2001 non soccer game play and guess what, I lost most of my games with 98, cause I did not know how to use the 6 buttons, but in fifa 2000/2001 all u need to know is that the passing, shooting, sprinting buttons then the rest r automatic. One question. Are the programmers or the managment for 98 are the same for 2000/2001???
I guess not, if they were, I mean, they could of kept the game play as it is in 98 and added more to it and made the graphics better thats all. Now that could of been an amazing footie game.
The FIFA RTWC Webmaster 18-06-2001, 03:20:PM No, it's sad but they aren't. If they were I bet the games after FIFA98 would had been so much better...
If you want to improve the graphics a bit for your FIFA 98 try installing the official EA patch 1.4... You can get it from FIFA98 Online.
And if you want real kits and real line ups and squads download the Official FIFA RTWC Update from http://www.fifartwc.cjb.net !
CANADIAN_10 18-06-2001, 08:53:PM wow thanks. I will check it out. I hope they have the latest line-ups for fifa 98.
The FIFA RTWC Webmaster 18-06-2001, 10:12:PM You bet!
The Official FIFA RTWC Update includes new squads, line ups and kits for all the major leagues and national teams!

I still play FIFA 98 every week with my best friend, just so we can play indoor games. To bad you can't play indoor in tournament mode. Usualy we just see who wins the most amount of games during one sitting.

Edward_ Black 19-06-2001, 09:29:AM The FIFA RTWC Webmaster:> Firstly a thanks to you for all the hard work that you have contributed to bring 'The Old Dog' back to life, after reading your past posts, i finally reinstalled Both WC98 and RTWC, plus all the patches, and honestly i never even realised how good these two football games are, even almost 4 years since they were released, they leave Fifa 2000\2001 way behind in playabilty and realism, plus they have a terrific atmosphere once that you start to get into them, even the in game player Attrib editors are mega responsive and actually react to any settings that you might reconfigure, it's a great tragedy that EA never followed the same theme with there recent releases instead of the graphics and glitz, then pack em with shyte method ... thanks again mate, Ned :D

The FIFA RTWC Webmaster 19-06-2001, 12:23:PM Thanks for the positive response!
It always makes me glad to hear that I have made someone realize the greatness of the '98 version.
It also feels great to hear that you appreciate the update.
I have been playing FIFA RTWC 98 for about four years now and still can't quit playing, it is quite addictive and I still find it challenging.
The fact that changing abilities for players and goalies really does make a great difference also makes the game even more long lived. In the latest release of the Official FIFA RTWC Update I lowered the stats for the keepers to make it easier to score from long range and free kicks and the keepers also leave more rebounds, just like in real life.
I am currently working on the CONCACAF which will be fully included with all the teams in the next release (try making this with any other FIFA game without having to use the MRA).
Yeah, BTW, I think it IS possible to play tournaments indoors, all you have to do is replace all stadiums with the indoor stadium.

leungtl 21-06-2001, 02:07:PM I personally think that FIFA 98 ROCKS! It was the best in the FIFA series; why EA took out the indoor stadium only god knows, but it is the best.
I always play the indoor option wheneva i have the time... :)
CANADIAN_10 21-06-2001, 02:13:PM leungtl u got that right man. I think fifa programmers should move to europe and spend a season of watching soccer, thennnnn they will have something about whats a footie game all about. ;) ;)

right, here goes...i quoted the RTWC Webbie but when i did it coz there was nothing to quote my message has the [ qb ] and [ /qb ] coding there so it looked wrong, i then edited it out and after that saw that dragan had done the same thing so i posted the message saying "hahaha you did what i did - but i edited it out...." but it looks like one of the mods deleted gragans post so now my message doesnt make sense.
hope you understand that coz im not sure i do... :D :p
CANADIAN_10 22-06-2001, 03:26:AM heeeeeeeeee, now i undestand dave. But too bad you don't :D :D nnniiiceeeee
The FIFA RTWC Webmaster 24-06-2001, 02:09:PM Yes, EA really should go back to basics in the future as the games after 98 really has lacked in so many aspects (except graphics, maybe also multiple season mode which actually are the only improved parts...)
But aslong as EA's new games or any other PC game will not be better than FIFA RTWC 98, I will keep playing. It's still the best game for PC!
The FIFA RTWC Webmaster 15-08-2002, 03:06:PM After playing a whole lot of ISS/Winning Eleven for the last couple of months, I went back to playing some FIFA RTWC and it can still cut the mustard!
I really enjoy it still! What a fabulous game!
Shindig 22-08-2002, 01:24:PM World Cup '98 beats it in the gameplay stakes. Hands down.
RTWC was too slow, IMO and far too easy.
WC '98 had more responsove controls, great presentation and was a challenge on proffesional. Plus it had Kenny Wolstenholme (RIP)

But WC'98 had too easy slide-tackling that ruined the whole game just like all the later FIFA's...
Shindig 22-08-2002, 10:12:PM Keepers are more intelligent in WC '98. Plus, I don't know why but, I seem to get some fantastic finishes on WC '98. The shooting in RTWC just feels a bit rusty.
On the plus side, I decided to play RTWC for the first time in months. It's still good. Very good.
Within a few minutes I had scored some real peachy net-rippers.
Goal 1: Ronaldo chips the keeper from the edge of the box in a comical moment. The keeper literally bends over backwards.
Goal 2: After a decent cross, Romario loops a header into the top corner.
Goal 3 Stu Pearce toe-punts a beast of a shot from the left side of the box.
Nice goals but nothing is more hilarious than the goal I got yeasterday on WC '98.
Paul Ince hits a shot from 45 yards. The keeper comes out to the edge of his box and palms the ball right into the path of Teddy Sherringham. Easy goal.
Shindig 23-08-2002, 09:21:PM RTWC is really starting to grow on me now.
Netted a few more beauties.
Tino and Shearer combine to score a fantastic breakaway goal. Shearer has 60 yards to run and finishes well.
Tino scores a nice one after having a crazy dribble. Not exactly a classic but its a decent finish.
Tino nets a bike after Pearce or Batty chips it forward. Tele cam makes it look better than it is though.
Plus I've got a replay of Phil Albert clattering the bar after a dodgy bit of keeping.
Quite a nice game but I still prefer the smoothness of WC '98. Just.

Try the FIFA RTWC Update. Get it from http://www.FIFARTWC.rr.nu !
It will improve the game play a bit and give you more recent squads...
