I wanted to start one of these things since I go through FM phases where I get into various games.

Right now I'm playing first season as Villarreal. I personally am most comfortable with the 442 and I played a game with Real in 2010 where I was successful and wanted to give it a try with FM2012.

Villareal were a great choice for me because they have some great fits for that formation. Rossi as deep lying forward, Nilmar as advanced forward. Borja Valero has great playmaking attributes, and is probably top 10 in the game at it. Senna can play DM. Villareal also have decent centre backs. I like to play with a Stopper/Cover and Zapata is a great cover. The only weak parts are the wingers and full backs but its fun buying to fill in the gaps.

So far I just brought in Osorio, an experienced Mexican international. He can play right or left back and for my tactic I need someone to support play, make nice decisions and passing and he is good for that. I also bought a fast left winger from France, Tabanou, who is good at dribbling, crossing and is decent at defending. Although he isn't world class he is what I'm looking for in my wingers.

In the winter transfer I'm bringing in 2 former players who will help with the homegrown rules (and I'll be selling 2 back-up players in their positions). I already bought a young left back option to come in January. He is Anita from Ajax and he is what I'm looking for in that position as described with Osorio, his only weakness is height. Also I arranged for a Brazilian from Cruzeiro to come in by the name of Wallyson. I'll try to see how he does as my right winger. He can also back-up both striker positions. The deep-lying forward often gets a lot of space to dribble past the defenders so he might do well there. I was able to get him for just $1.5 mil.

http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/4026/61390042.jpg

What I'm trying differently in this game is to buy players that I think are right tactically but not necessarily have the most stars. Because we all know if you buy highly rated players you are almost certain to succeed but in this game I want to keep it more realistic and not so easy on my-self. I am a bit of a hypocrite though because Nilmar and Rossi, my highest rated players, can take over games and win them for me with their skills. For the first time I'll also try to be cheap to limit my-self. Normally I like paying a lot for really great players but this time I'll try to go with the cheapest options possible. The Spain rule of only 3 non-EU players will also be a fun challenge.

Unlike my fm2010 game with Real this time I have 2 back-up tactics that might come in handy.

http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/9388/tacmf.jpg

The 4-3-3 is a more attacking tactic and it's also useful against certain formation. It was successful against Athletic's flat 3-4-3 because it exploited the wings. The 3rd tactic is a defensive one.

So far I'm doing well in the league, squad morale is high which is huge. In CL I'm also doing good.

-------------------------------------

I noticed some things I like about FM12. Team Talks are much easier to understand. I like the fact that you can see what different coaches would say during team talks. And the description of how the player is feeling ( playing well/looks complacent/is having a bad game) is the main key now in my substitution selection and I feel that improves my success a lot.

Looks good, I like that you're more of a purist and use the old tactics. Also think it's interesting that you took a passing team like Villareal and switched them to 4-4-2.

I noticed that what I like about the 442 is that it stretches out the field and allows for a lot of 1 on 1s and space. The downside is not having a DM in-between midfield and defence. The cover on the wings is good because the LM/RM can help out.

I was just thinking..it would have been nice if Villarreal would have kept Cazorla because he could have been a long-term winger. . I was close to selling Cani because he isn't the typical right midfielder but he has been playing good.

I don't agree myself, but a lot of smart people agree with you on the 442. Sacchi's Milan played one.

Arrows! :D

I always admire those wicked formations, I always seem to rely on symmetry. Good luck! (Y)

Same here. I only just started using assymetrical roles.

I decided to convert my classic to a tactics creator tactic and this is what it looks like: (with some minor tweaks)

http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/2069/40973546.jpg

This allows the mentality, passing, forward runs and run with ball to stay close to the same but will change some of the other settings which will hopefully improves my defence.

I'm almost done the season, I have 5 matches left and am 4 points ahead of 4th spot.. I lost to all teams that were better than me but am still holding onto 3rd. I lost to Barca (drew them in the 5th round of the cup too), Madrid in the league and City in the first round of the knockout CL stage (which I was unfortunate because I got first place in my group and drew a hard team). My team is pretty consistent and reliable which I like. I have very few draws, a few loses and a lot of wins scrapped by 1 goal.

I learned a few things this season... the players I bought were way too average and not special enough. I felt their attributes were right for their position but you really need someone with higher star ratings to be a game changer. So I'm going to try to only buy players with ability (or potential) of 3.5 stars or more.

Tabanou was a good buy this year and Ortigoza who I brought in the winter.

http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/3840/38573000.jpg

Also I'm excited to try a new squad rotation style. Before I would rotate to share minutes and keep players fresh but now I'm going to remove players based on previous match's ratings. If their replacement does bad they will get a chance to be inserted into the team again but if they do well they get to keep the spot in the team for consecutive matches (unless injury and fatigue occurs).

Another thing is that I've become a big fan of is Hard Tackling, it makes your team basically better, the downside of course if fouls given. If they get a yellow I switch to Easy Tackling.

And most importantly I incorporated 2 screens while watching the match which have improved my performance a lot! I have the player ratings on the left and the team motivation on the right. Team motivation tells you if the player is having a bad game, is losing discipline , is playing with confidence or is fired up. If there's anything negative there I try to substitute the player. If it's positive yet he's performing bad at least I know he's trying, unlike before where I didn't know what the problem was.

A tie will do since I won the first match 1-0. And I'm playing at home so losing would be a big fail.

*Oh and one new feature I forgot to talk about is how awesome Team Report is for figuring out squad depth/ability.

Star ratings are relative to scout quality and the players already on your team. Buying 3.5 star players doesn't mean anything really.

yoyo913
17-12-2011, 09:59:PM
It is relative but you can use it to figure out if you are getting better quality players or not.

The olympics came up and Spain needed a U23 manager so I applied and got the job. From past FMs the Olympics might be the easiest international competition if you are a big team because you can crush most opponents. The AI also doesn't do the best job with squad selection and choosing the best 3 delegated players.

I am playing this competition just as some extra fun and I'll be using my 442 (yes a 4-5-1 would be better suited). My 3 over 23 players are Xavi (I want to see him in the central playmaker role since he is the best in the world at it and now I get the chance to use him), Villa (I want a superstar in attack and I chose him over Torres because he probably has better hidden mental stats), and with Pique for some solidarity in defence.

I have Brazil in the group stage, alongside Saudi Arabia and New Zealand who I feel very sorry for.

Won the Olympics with Spain. Lost 3-0 to Brazil in the 3rd group game but ended up beating them 5-0 in the semis using the same formation. Beat Great Britain in final on penalties.

Find that to be different this year, in fact most teams pick unrealistic designated players, such as Iniesta or Rooney.

Yeah, I kept seeing very good players in the Olympics, was kind of surprising given that most teams object to having their players go.

Well, not only that, but the Olympics are held during Euro years too, so usually those players are playing all summer.

I played as Spain once too, and got knocked out by Brazil in the Semi Finals. I picked realistic designated players, I think like Mata, Busquets, and someone else. Brazil picked Pato, Maicon, and Hulk. I nearly **** myself seeing them up against my young and not very good Spanish defense.

Hey uh... yoyo, do you have any tips about using a flat 4-4-2? I'm tired of running a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 on every game I play and think this could be a fun change. How do you get it working? Play narrow, direct passing? I feel like the CMs can't charge forward, so no AP-As because it will kill your positioning, probably ideally something like BWD-D and DLP-S, and then a Treq or similar as one of the forwards next to a poacher. What else?

yoyo913
21-12-2011, 03:18:AM
I posted a screenshot of the formation roles I use a few posts up (on the 17th). I originally created the formation with classic but I then created one with roles that roughly follow the same forward run/ run with ball/ mentality/ passing settings.

For defense I use the full backs on support and a stopper+cover CB partnership (but this can be changed). The wingers are placed more behind than a 4-3-3, giving them more space to run into. In centre mid I have to say that you must have a player with no forward runs instruction (but with good passing) and a playmaker who is also decent at defending. For forwards I would go with a deep lying/ advanced forward combo.

The way I play the 442 initializes attacks from (1)the wings,(2) the forward dropping back, (3)the playmaking CM. If the opponents play very defensive having smart fullbacks also helps.

I'm actually surprised with the early success I'm having at Fiorentina using a flat 4-4-2, and this is with Montolivo, Jovetic, and Vargas all missing some or all of the games. The key to me seems to be concentrating entirely on defense and defensive positioning. Only then can you think about attack. Narrow and compact 2 banks of 4 are incredibly difficult even for the best sides to break down, and I think for intelligent and quick passing, this is the best I've ever had. Most of my 4-3-3 and varients get goals from players dribbling well, but this tactic seems to utilize spacing very well. I'm really intrigued. Never EVER thought I'd play a flat 4-4-2. I think where I got tripped up initially is that I was asking one of my CMs to play too much of an attacking role. It really seems like there are only 3 combinations: DLP/BWM, DLP/BBM, BWM/BBM, with one on support and one on defense. Anything else is probably a little doomed.

yoyo913
21-12-2011, 05:24:AM
I think a combo of CMs with run with ball and forward runs on rarely and one with those on sometimes is my preference. I got a little bored with the Vilarreal game because I messed up the transfers and squad rotation. I'm working on an entirely new formation. It is the past Chelsea 433 but roles that I think will be more deadly. I have midfield figured out but haven't figured out the single forward's or full backs best duties. I'll see how it works out and probably post about it later.

I'm probably going to use one of these two tactics in the Luch season.

Oh and about Fiorentina.. Jovetic would be one of my top picks in the world to play the more deeper secondary striker roles. If I remember I was interested in buying him because he's an elite young player not yet with a perennial CL team. I played my player (Rossi) with the Complete Forward Support role. Its set to Run with Ball often, Forward runs sometime and decent passing duties. Vargas is the type of player I like to test buying. I have a preference of buying wingers with good defensive attributes. He can bully the second half of the field and push around weaker opponents. If you look at one of my first posts it has the transfer of Tabanou who is my poor man's version of Vargas. Btw Tabanou has been getting consistent 7s for me.

Gilardino is a classic poacher and goal hunter. Great for partnering Jovetic. In FM12 I noticed its good to have a good dribbler in this role however. In my opinion its half off the ball run chances and half of the chances they have to create themselves.

Montolivo is great for the support CM. He has really good defensive attributes for being such a good passer IMO. In past FMs I found this role deadly however I had Borja Valero in this playmaking role and was one of my most talented players, yet he didn't contribute enough as imagined.

Cassani is good FB, Behrami I would try as Def CM. Cerci is good as back up winger. I just had a quick look at the squad and thought I'd give my take. I haven't figured out Defense too much but if you come up with a good system tell me. I had my wingers with close down rarely and man marking which made them chase down the opposing winger making a run so it was like an extra line of protection of the wings which is a very nice commodity to have. I like having one CB close down quicker just to apply pressure because there's no DM. Figuring out the CMs defense is a little tough too. Ideally I would like to have a Iniesta type in attack with good passing and dribblin but with Gattuso like tracking because this player will make it forward more. The other CM would be perfect as a Busquets who slides in to make up for empty space formed by his teammates. Actually Busquets had nice passing too so he might be perfect for this role haha.

Nimreitz
21-12-2011, 05:37:AM
Yeah, I was looking for a team with some young talent with room to grow and someone suggested that I try Fiorentina, and I thought it was a great idea. Then looked through the squad and it seemed born to play 4-4-2, and I didn't have transfer fees in the first season anyway. I think I'll try Jovetic as a CF-S, didn't think of that, but it might work better than Treq, although that is working alright. Gilardino is exactly what you said, he finishes chances that others create, usually Vargas and Jovetic.

Speaking of Vargas, I think the physical monster is the best type of winger in a flat 4-4-2 because he can sit back and play defense too, so Maggio or Dani Alves would be ideal on the right, and then probably Bale or Vargas on the left; another version of this would be Brek Shea for lesser sides.

Sadly, Adem Ljalic doesn't seem to fit in anywhere as a right footed left sided player, but I'll probably be able to retrain him. Anyway, it will be interesting; I'm going to have to tweak it each match more than I thought, I've been dominated my last couple although have escaped with draws.

yoyo913
21-12-2011, 06:06:AM
Haha, that sound like my game. I started out strong but started playing out and strong and then dipped.

With the RM on the other hand having someone like Pedro would be going with the ultimate classic RM. If only I could pry him from Barca.

Nim, I did something extremely geeky with FM Scout.

I found a thread on SI forums where attribute weighting was figured out and calculated by geeks for general purposes. E.g. It costs more current ability points for a defender to have high marking than a forward. I then took these calculation and manually inserted them in the Rating Editor in FM Scout, because currently the creator of FM Scout pulled the ratings from his own @ss (he probably had a very educated guess tho). So in a way it scientifically adheres to the system of FM.

Unfortunately I lost this excel file I made but captured it in a screenshot. (oh I also devised training schedules based on this)

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/7149/attrweighting.jpg

That shows how much value the attributes have in relation with one-another based on position. 0 being lowest, 6 highest. Messi, Xavi, and Rooney scored highest. Speed takes up most ability points.

Therefore both these players I created have the exact same CA (Current Ability)

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/5920/29330859.png

http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/1284/43888765.png

The second player being the highest number of attributes (and best player) you can get with the current ability system. If I were to make him AMC instead of striker the attributes would take a hit.

I also did the attribute weighting backwards to figure out the player with most attributes out of his position. Dragomir(the second player) is calculably speaking the most you could get out of this (only mistake is not making his flair 20). Maicon, Gerrard, and Srna scored highest with real life players.

I started a new game with Cesena because I used to have this tactic in FM06 that was the best in that game (IMO) and it never worked quite as well with FM10 and 11 but I tested it in FM12 and its done well in a Real Madrid test game. Beat Barca both super cup games.

I want to test it with a lower team so I decided to go with Cesena since they are a bottom team in the Serie A. They also have a squad with the roles to play the tactic but at a reduced ability. And Mutu!

The team is not rich and has no real prospects so it will be a fun venture. I`m only going to bring in 1 prospect defender from Senegal this year and that will be it. Usually I do more transfers but this way it should be a nice challenge. And there`s something endearing about using an original squad.

Its a crazy counter attacking tactic with quick link-ups up front.

Yeah, I found the attribute weighting thing ad have been fiddling with it for a while. One correction is that Natural Fitness and Influence are 0 across the board, like Aggression, Determination and Flair.

Set-pieces are always 1, and Pace & Acceleration are the most draining.

The position with the most ease to get high positional rating is CB, any CB generated with good PA (175 or so) will have low 80s, pretty much. Mostly because no stat is as draining for them as with other positions (speed attributes don't drain as much). Defenders in general are like this, as are DMs, but because they tend to be generated with better dead-ball stats and generally need to be better overall to be worldclass (a WC fullback need to be good in attack and defense, a WC CB can just be good at defense).

Both of those strikers will be great, in different roles. Really, striker 2 has a lot of superfluous stuff that while excellent, won't really help him out. Not only that, but he has 20s in Tackling and Marking and Throw-Ins, but 17 in First Touch, Finishing, Composure, etc. I might prefer Striker 1.

The 4-2-4 tactic I posted creates the most back and forth football I've seen. I lost a slightly one sided game against Udinese away but beat Genoa 5-0 in my first home game.

I've been on a search for a new tactic since my current tactic was bound for disappointment because it was designed for FM06. I got some good results but they have been fluky and the tactic gives me way too much anxiety because of it's unpredictability.

I was lucky to find this tactic that's been getting a lot hype, its a 4-2-4 (with wingers) so it works great with the players I have. http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/football-manager-2012-tactics-training/88647-proxys-parking-bus-destroyer.html

My first game I beat Roma 1-0 away.

My marquee striker signing Paloschi (Italian 21 yr old) has been a big fail so far. He's played 9 with 0 goals. His coach report states he's professional and ambitious so I'm surprised he's done so poorly.

http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/9403/97576537.jpg

I'll still give him plenty of chances because I want to keep him for many years, he's Italian and has nice potential.

He had a penalty chance too which he missed.

10 for Decisions.

Nimreitz
30-12-2011, 11:47:AM
Decisions isn't important for a poacher, which is clearly what he is. You need to play slightly counter attacking, and have a steady stream of balls into the box. His only role should be scoring. And that said, sometimes guys just go cold for awhile, it happens. Better acceleration and the PPM of beating the offside trap can't hurt either.

Azrael
30-12-2011, 11:50:AM
Decisions is important for everyone, in my book, it's the single most important attribute.

yoyo913
30-12-2011, 03:26:PM
I find that attribute important too but more for GK/Defenders/midfielders. He's been getting a fair amount of counter attack through ball chances but he does seem very cold . He's now injured for 5 weeks which gives him a forced break from the first-team. To be honest I shouldn't be playing him because of his poor performance and I keep moving Malonga to a winger position to fit him in. Malonga's has done good in the striker role, been average as a winger.

It's been really funny, I see Paloschi getting a very nice opportunity, lets say he's one on one with the keeper and I know it will be a fail. :( And it's been so far. I don't care though because I'm 9th in the table and I just need to not relegate, I want this game to not have a lot of expectation and just slowly build a strong team under the radar. Next year I'm thinking of buying a lot of players with high potential and just developing them (and getting losses due to this). I have solid players in all positions but wings and no good back-ups so far. My plan is to have high potential players in the first XI and low-wage back-ups. If someone comes in with a bid for my players I'll look to sell them and get a cheaper replacement.

I posted earlier that I wanted to play with mostly the original team for the first season and not buy a lot but I couldn't pass up on these players. I wanted to strengthen the team.

This guy has been my biggest bargain of fm12 so far, he only cost 60k from a Quatar club and is on a low wage. Shame about the injury. He's not an injury prone player so he should be okay in the future. I'm retraining him to be my defensive CM since he's got good defensive, technical, mental and physical attributes!

http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/9246/95758631.jpg

Also I'd like to state that in this save game I'm using Genie Scout and a downloaded tactic and I am morally okay with doing this.

Now onto the other transfers...

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/1845/72649237.jpg

This motherf*cker is a bargain if he's available for your team and your team's skill level. Napoli don't need him and he's on sale for 900k (all my figures are £). Normally I do believe you'd have to pay a few million for a player like this (maybe even 5). I got him on loan first season for 50% of his wage and I already secured for his signing for next season (900K). This is an ultimate cheap-o move because I didn't sign him in order to save the 50% yearly wage. He has a cool name too.

I was originally not planning to buy another CB but Swansea came in with a 2.9m bid for my first team Swiss CB (Von Bergen) so I took a look and brought in a good Argentinian replacement (Caruzzo) who I appointed captain too, hope the team is okay with that.

http://img848.imageshack.us/img848/1060/80664674.jpg

I am also very cheap and don't like offering contract extension because more often than not they are costly so I sold all rotation players with one year left on their contract. Also in Italy for fm12 I realized you get some nice co-ownership offers for average players. It was like free money! I don't think I'd get that much from them in the future so I decided to cash in on half of it now. Also another nice thing about Italy is that the player are over priced. I had an average back-up CB that I was able to sell for a million.

edit: My cheapness is also taking a hit because I have to pay 2.3mil in wages for a loan player from Juventus! I can't cancel the deal and send him back (it seems its no longer allowed in fm12 or maybe I can't because it's outside the transfer window). The guy is Jorge Martinez and he's not even in my first XI! I don't even have him on my books to sell him later on so he's definitely not worth the money he's getting paid, which is the highest on the team, similar to Mutu who's contract is expiring after next season.

Nimreitz
30-12-2011, 06:53:PM
Haha, that's funny, I actually signed Malonga in my Fiorentina game in January, but unfortunately he just couldn't crack the team and got pissed, so I sold him.

yoyo913

Yes, I get to chance to send Martinez back to Juve from loan because its January! He is my first back-up option but I have to do it.

Paloschi scores his first goal after 16 matches against Inter to tie the game 2-2. BTW this tactic is killer, one of the greats. I'm dominating possession and shots against teams with better players and I'm being very competitive against the league leaders.

Since it's a DL tactic it's not the same as winning with your own but it does give you a little comfort knowing you have a good set-up. Its also easy for me to play my young players because expectations aren't high, I've inserted my young high potential Senegalese CB in the first XI.

Here have been the results with the new tactic, even with the loses the performances have been good.

http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/8421/25852448.jpg

It seems to rely on smart passing and possession. The front four also position themselves nicely to receive through balls (something peculiar about the tactic is that none of the four attackers have forward runs often, 3 are sometime, 1 rarely).

I've signed 5 nice players on frees for next season, I'll post them when they arrive. This transfer season I brought in this guy:

He's at the African Cup of Nations but when he returns I'll be looking to start him.

Yeah, I signed Labyad on a free in the first season, and he looked good, but I just sent him out on loan for 3-4 seaons and then sold him to PSG for 10m where he was a starter. Never established himself at Morocco, which was surprising.

Finished the first season, got 6th place, 3 points short of qualifying for Europe. Roma got the last spot due to winning the Copa Italia.

I've already started next season and made all my sales/buys. I sold Mutu, Malonga, and Parolo, 3 of my first team-ers. I got nice money from Malonga and Parolo and I sold Mutu because he was old and had a high salary. I bought a lot of players with nice potential and filled out the squad with free transfers.

Transfers

In/Out (out total is 21M)

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/8288/89504424.jpg

The reason I have so many players out on loan/frees is because Italian teams love to have a huge squad in the reserves that they loan-out/co-own... they are still under contract so I'm looking to get rid of them. Also some players I got for free because I co-owned them and won the bid (sometimes even with 0$). I will look to stay away from co-own deals in the future.

This guys is going to be my first choice GK for this season. He is good but not great, after giving him first team action I might be able to sell him for a decent fee next year and buy someone better. He came on a free. BTW he's a FM legend, always been a good GK to buy over the years.

http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/7607/46440848.jpg

My first team DM, gotten on a free. Only attribute I don't like is decisions.

First choice AML, off a free.

http://img835.imageshack.us/img835/1293/95719894.jpg

Destro, he has been good the last couple FMs. He has nice contrasting attributes to Paloschi (can play playmaker). He should form a nice partnership with him, both young Italians.

Lux that motherf*cker and his 10 in aerial ability. Chievo player shoots a long shot right at him and goes over his head and in.

I've been playing Romario to give him first team experience and he's effed up twice, once conceding a penalty in the last few minutes of the game to allow a tie and once he scored an O.G. I know he will be beastly soon enough though.

The team has been doing good so far, undefeated in 5 games with highlights being coming back from 2-0 to win 2-4 against Milan and getting a draw against champions Napoli.

Seems my tactic does really well against Inter.

http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/1918/46577604.jpg

Note that is the CB scoring a hat-trick, the tactic has a cheap corner routine to near post.

Still undefeated after 11 games, sitting 1st in the league.

I attribute this success to a good tactic, good morale, and good squad unity. The tactic is very good in defence which I didn't expect because it's a 4-2-4 (advanced wingers) but the CMs do a good job at positioning themselves, as well as the wingers. The defence seems to battle out the opposing attack well. The attack is varied, against good teams it's usually through balls to the right striker and wingers. Against a team that has a lot players back the DR and DL get the ball a lot to cross it in. The MCs also push up the ball and try to get a short through ball but sometimes that's tough. Oh and the corner goals. I have to give props to Nim because if I remember right he created this formation shape in the Chelmsford game when they became very successful... so it seems there is some validity behind it. If we use a modification of this downloaded tactic, would that be against to rules of the Lech game?

I am doing a good job managing the morale but that's probably easy to maintain because of the success. I always get an Assistant manager who is good at motivation and team talks so I let him decide what to say.

Using Genie Scout my team is ranked about 11th in the league in terms of current skill (2nd for potential though) so there are definitely better teams in the league. However the AI I see doesn't do the best job with rotating player/tactics/buys. I also used genie scout when buying players and I always brought in guys with great character which I know makes your squad that much stronger. (Professionalism, Determination, Consistency, Pressure etc...)

I was going to play youngsters more but now I don't want to screw up losing the title so I'm counting on the established players on the team.

My team had some big results this year. 7-2 vs Udinese. 5-0 vs Milan. Beat Juve 4-1 after going one down. 3-1 in the cup vs Genoa while playing younsters. My last match I got the winner in minute 92.

I did make more transfers.

This guy has great potential and good hidden mental attributes for his age, which is rare. I set him on specialized quickness training which is his only slight weakness.

http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/2594/39147165.jpg

Ekdal is a great defensive CM in my formation because I do need someone who is good in attacking/passing as well.

http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/1250/63628013.jpg

I sold Lux, Diame, and Vejinovic which was a cheap move because I got them on frees and was able to get 11mil for them.

I couldn't hold back from selling Lux. I got 2.5mil and bough Julio Segio for 350k from Roma. After I made these dealings I realized they might be mistakes because changing a consistent performer might screw up the team but Julio Sergio has been great. I am planning on selling him next season because I signed an amazing goalie that will be my future captain. He is ranked the 3rd best GK (genie scout) behind Neuer and Casillas. Props to Nim, I know he really rates this guy. Huge bargain at 7mil. I was reluctant to pay him 2.5mil per year but when I saw his ability compared to other GKs he is definitely worth it.

http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/3183/36326633.jpg

And this next guy is on pace to be the 2nd best player in the world behind Messi in terms of potential, I'm thinking of renaming him to Rivaldo:

I only suggested the 4-2-4, I think Juventino was the first to actually implement it with Chelmsford, and I wouldn't dream of playing it with a mediocre team like you have. I did later use it in FM12 in my Gladbach game after leaving for City because my personnel wasn't quite right for a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 and had some blistering success early, but it tailed off; I attribute it to not having the right CMs though. If you have 2 guys like Ekdal (or Nainggolan, or of course the ultimate M'Vila) then you can dominate with it, but if you're trying to pound square pegs into the CM spots like guys better used as APs or Trequartistas, then you won't win. Anyway, this is seriously amazing. I hope you post screenshots of your Scudetto table in the thread of whoever's tactic this was as payment for the success.

Ekdal is brilliant, I was after him for 3 years at Fiorentina and finally signed him after his interminably long contract with Juventus expired.

Following my Gladbach game I actually rate Ron-Robert Zieler more than I do ter Stegen, and he's cheaper too. ter Stegen is really good though.

yoyo913
07-01-2012, 06:58:AM
That's the weird thing about this 4-2-4, it's actually decent defensively. I should post the success where I found the tactic but that guy already has a ton of given respect for it... stories similar to mine.

ter Stegen is better rated by Genie both in ability and hidden attributes but maybe you got a better performance out of Zieler in your game. For some reason Zieler is more expensive to get in my game.

edit: Lost 3-2 to Inter, but I still have some leeway. I'm lucky that there are a bunch of good teams but no teams at the level of Barca/Real. The rest of the league is pretty talented too, teams like Cagliari/Catania have some nice players. I like that the only transfer restrictions are 2 max non-euros per month. Having no reserve league has actually been nice. I now just schedule them when I feel like I need them and then move player to the reserves to get match fitness. I would always feel a little pressure to field a decent reserve team side but this removes that.

Nimreitz

My scouts consistently rated Zieler better than ter Stegen, and then he performed better too. Maybe one or both of them have uncertain potentials.

07-01-2012, 05:12:PM
The next game Roma beat Inter 1-0... good good.

edit: For some reason Jovetic is available for cheap and I put in a bid but he doesn't want to talk to me. He will probably request a really high salary but I really like his hidden mental stats and young age. Maybe once I officially win the title my rep will go up so I can get him.

edit2: Played a real stinker against Livorno, lost 1-0.

Yep, I regret signing this 18yr old Columbian wonder kid now because I could have had Kagawa which would have been my best player.

This season is weird... with my spike in reputation I would have expected a huge change in the first team but it's stayed the same (other than ter Stegen). If I buy a player none of them would really be an upgrade. I guess I just have to keep developing my own youngsters.

I'm trying to get a left footed full back to come because I don't have one but the options are pretty crappy. I'm going to get the cheapest average player I can find. I did that with a Brazilian DM in my loooooong Man City save in FM10 (I think, maybe FM11) and it worked out well. But that guy was actually fast, a good dribbler, and capable of crossing.

yoyo913
09-01-2012, 01:39:AM
Crisetig at the start of the game has the best mental attributes for someone so young, he's got good potential and I really want to have him fit into this team. If he plays smart he can be decent. I see his attributes increasing +2, and including the specialized training I might be able to get his pace up to 15 and acc to 14. This tactic doesn't need dribbling that much and he's got decent crossing and is left footed. And he's from Inter.

Its a 3rd party software that info.. Like the attributes I find most important - consistency, important matches (how to handle them) and professionalism. I've been using it since 01/02. Cheating.. Yes in other words.

My favorite of it's features are the custom rating you can create. You can assign a value (out of 100) to attributes you find important and then every player gets a rating next to their names. That's a very nice search tool for the ocd.

I play games without it too (like the Vilarreal one) and I know how to be successful in those, but usually I enjoy them more with it. I justify it by pretending I'd be a real life scouting prodigy that would have this superior ability.

14-01-2012, 07:51:AM
Okay, I'm taking a break from the Cesena game because I had a new idea for a save game and have been playing it for a few days. I'm always very meticulous with squad rotation and it's one of the more frustrating parts of the game. I think it's important to keep players fit, rested, and give them enough playing time so planning who to play and when can be time consuming and it's not the most fun part of the game.

So I wanted to have a team where I would play all 11 first team starters no matter the match, that is if they were fit and not injured (over 90% conditioning without it saying 'tired'). So to do this I wanted players with good stamina and natural fitness. I also created a filter in genie scout to pick the players with best Consistency/Imp Matches and Determination in order for them to be good performers. I didn't want to go with City but because of their money I thought they were the best choice to try this.

Normally I am very strict with transfers but the transfer window for this game was an abberation. I sold very high quality cheaply and overpayed for many players. I will still be using the super 4-2-4 tactic.

Here is the starting XI (huge change from original city team):

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/6821/49239303.png

Only Kompany and Tevez remained.

So far the results have been spectacular. Cavani might be having the best season I've ever had with a striker in any version. I wasn't even expecting this because although in FM11 he was amazing for me it took him a year or two to adapt to a new team. I'm through 23 league games and the goal difference is an astonishing +75. I've had a few injuries here and there but going into my next game the full 11 are available. I've won all games except a Bolton tie and the following:

F*ck you Fili

http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/5079/84083349.png

F*ck you Tom

But as I said, these are the only bad results, most games have been superb statistically, probably the best I've ever seen.

For example in this game Swansea kept it 0-0 till late and the pressure was immense:

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/2071/15395722.png

And here is a high scoring example:

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/4716/15749887.png

Players I would really like to have in the future would be Phil Jones, Hernandez, Rooney, and Messi because their skill level and those hidden attributes I mentioned are of really high quality. Man Utd have a great team for this experiment too.

So overall perhaps my approach to FM in that regard has been wrong. Maybe I should focus more on the starting XI since that way I'm playing my highest skilled players. In the Cesena game I have many players playing a similar number of games, but in that case I'm also trying to develop youngsters.

Ended up getting 3rd place in the group with Cesena. The Chelsea home game and Lyon home and away were even games but the team ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard. The team however did good to beat Bremen 2 times (the 2nd game was a must win to get 3rd spot).

In all my years of FM I have never won the Europa League (or UEFA cup) because whenever I had a good team I would make it to the CL (which I've won many times). Therefore being in the Europa League meant I wasn't finished building a strong side. Maybe this time I'll be lucky.

I won it in my Gladbach save twice. Extremely satisfying the first time, but incredibly anticlimactic and almost depressing the second time. My stadium also hosted the first time, so I was actually the home team in the cup final, which was cool.

I managed to sign Messi in the city game for 17m + 200m over 48 months (217 is his release clause). I had to fake interest in his agent's other player - Caicedo to get my name on the agent's favorite list to even offer a contract that is possible. Even though I have a sh*t load of money I could only offer Messi his current Barca wage and the sign on bonuses weren't as high as he wanted so to compensate I had to do the ridiculous. His contract has a 50% yearly increase, 275k per game and goal, and an increase in 5mil when he reaches 5 games with us. I"m going to try to negotiaþe a new contract with him ASAP once I get him.

Asked the board for a stadium expansion and they agreed... for 340 f*cking seats... it's going to cost 375,000$ and will take almost a year to complete.

I finished the 3rd season with Cesena and will post some pics in the upcoming days + signings. I have an exciting Brazilian AMLC regen similar to Nemernicu (not as good obv).

http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/993/87735183.png

Got him from Cruzeiro for only 2.3mil. He's already my #1 penalty/corner/free kick taker. He's in the playmaker CM role in my 4-2-4.

This was my big free agent signing. He's the only new signing to be inserted in the starting XI (I didn't have a good DM before). Rodrigues is (just) behind Candreva as the starting Advanced CM.

I'm trying to be very stingy with money this game. I had to give Javi Garcia a high salary which I was reluctant to do so I might sell him in January or summer. A few players are asking for a salary increase but I'm trying to delay it till it's close to expiring. I like signing players on 5 year deals for good value and not giving them a new one till year 4 (or sell).

http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/8390/98676777.png

Viviano I purely signed because he's a great GK and I will sell him for profit later on. ter Stegen I hope will be my GK for the next 15 years so I don't need a new one. I know if I start giving players high salaries it will create a domino effect so I'm trying to keep things cheap but I probably won't be able to maintain this strategy when I want to start challenging for the CL.

Right sided Bale

http://img850.imageshack.us/img850/2984/91494043.png

He came through City and for some reason they released him... I wanted to buy him and was shocked to see him being out of contract. He has really great potential, his attacking FB skills are crazy, shame about the stamina - my FB's get tired quickest in my tactic. From his pic he looks like he would be an a-hole in real life though (imo).

Last season's standing... did good

http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/7986/28468467.png

In Europe I finished 3rd in CL group (only points came from 2 wins against 4th place W Bremen). In Europa League I unfortunately lost to Benfica in the first knock-out stage even thought I played well and arguably deserved to win.

This year's CL group is easier. I have Real which is tough but winnable games against CSKA and Salzburg.

This is my last notable transfer for this season. I've got my future CB pairing in him and Brands.

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/7545/98790942.png

I actually have almost all my first XI for the future. I've got the AML and DM for the future coming this winter and next season and only need a LB now to be set. My plan is to have a main XI and then have decent back-up players. I want to incorporate my City strategy where I play the first XI lots.

yoyo913
03-02-2012, 02:43:PM
I've come up with a crazy new rotation policy this season and it seems to be working good so far. I want to incorporate my prospects in a lot of matches so I decided with league games to play my best defence Away with the prospects on attack and with Home games have my best attackers starting alongside my defensive prospects. CL games I play my best players.

03-02-2012, 09:14:PM
In the last CL game for some reason Real played 3 youth squad players (not great prospects or talents either) against me. I considered the match important because if I tied or won I would get to be 1st in the group. I was lucky Ronaldo was out injured as well. I ended up winning which so far is the most impressive continental team Cesena has beaten and it puts the team in a good place for the knockouts...

yoyo913
04-02-2012, 05:25:PM
I'm thinking of starting new a side experimental game where I employ a long ball tactic. I'm going to try to find a team that primarily has good heading skills, and secondarily physical attributes. I'm probably going to with a mid or lower table Premiership team since it's something the english are famous for.

The tactic I'm thinking of using is a diamond 4-4-2 because it allows there to be players scattered out nicely around the field and also leaves some space in the centre which will allow a lot of back and forth action.

yoyo913
05-02-2012, 12:24:AM
Another game idea I'm having is to take the top 8 teams in a 10 team league (like Austria, Ireland, Switzerland, or Slovenia) and just create a massive monopoly by managing the 8 teams, where the main focus is on developing the best national youngsters... so make money and increase training facilities. Always beat the bottom relegation teams and keep the same 8 teams at the top, and make sure the more prestigious clubs finish at the top of the table. It would be fun but would take a lot of time to get through a season.

This was one of those games where I felt the AI trying to f*ck with me just to put a challenge in my season. I had 2 injuries and by the time I made all 3 subs I had another one so I ended the game without my 2 forwards. The team showed it's toughness and quality by managing to finish 1-1. My team is favourite to win the CL this year IMO.

So this season has been going great... doing good in the CL, where I failed last year. I beat Barca in the quarters 6-1 aggregate which will no doubt cut the length of this save game. The team is becoming very good and my youngsters haven't even fully developed yet, so far I've just been using value buys. Next season will be the first year where I start my high potential youngsters (they are getting good, and surpassing the previous players) and the team will only go up from there! I have close to 100mil in the bank and I don't even want it there, I like my new found cheap-ness style. It's something harder to make possible if you start with a big club because their reputation and current contract are from the get-go very high.

I wish I would have started this game in a less powerful league, like Romania, because it would have been more of a challenge. Well one thing I could do is make an all-star team with 25 amazing players... I've had good teams in the past but I could try making this one the best.

I'm still excited for next season because I'll be replacing the current starting players (the old guard) with the new superstars I had grow with the club, and then introducing new youngsters to take their place. I can't wait to post some screenies of how some of the players have turned out... I might wait however till they are fully developed. And it's funny how I have a Lungu as well (who is a good player).

Ter Stegen played all games for me for this season and last. I'm scared to think what will happen if he gets injured.

To be honest FM Scout player a large part in it. I found players that are very reliable and consistent and went for the best sale value/talent buys. Plus players with high potential. The Villarreal game is a better representation since I played that game straight. I took 4th place first year and the following season I would be around the same level... so a little harder to take it to the next level.

The Cesena game has been more fun for me though and I still have some players I need to develop, just wait till you see Brands. He has really well rounded attributes needed for a CB.

Zieler is better than ter Stegen, just FYI

yoyo913
12-02-2012, 01:52:PM
Not in my game. I've noticed in other saves that ter Stegen has lower potential. In mine it's nice, a 179 which is good to be world class. This and his current ability are higher than Zieler's by a fair bit. And the other deciding factor for me, the hidden mental stats, are also considerably better for ter Stegen.

http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/3252/96319064.png

I've circled the important attributes that are higher for one player by 2 or more. It's pretty balanced, both players have reached their full potential but ter Stegen has a CA higher by 12, as I said his hidden mental stats are better which puts him over the edge just based on that (being the difference maker with them being so similar), and ter Stegen has been with the club longer to get accustomed to it and is my captain. And age.

edit: It's funny that the past two season my two best players have been goalies (based on ability). Last year ter Stegen and Viviano and this year ter Stegen and Zieler.

yoyo913
12-02-2012, 02:10:PM
I've sold a few too many of my established players to make way for the new breed. I wish I would have kept one or two more in case of injuries. The team is probably worse than last year's because of that but once I get through this transition period things will only go up. I'll have a world class 11 + 11.

Stadium Expansion work just finished, it got increased by 15,000 seats and it's up to 47,000 which is decent compared to how it was before.

I also put in the Romanian leagues to be loaded up next season. My plan is to get all my top youngsters to their full potential and win the CL 2 years in a row (still have 0 now). After that I would like to manager Inter and win them the Serie A but I doubt I'll be lucky enough to have the job available when I want it, although they've been going through managers quick, I've been offered the job twice already. Finally my goal is to go to Romania and take over a team there and do well with them in Europe, which will be a nice hard challenge.

yoyo913
25-02-2012, 05:44:AM
I'm underway with the new season so I'll tell you how the last one went. The biggest thing was the CL first round knockout loss to Porto, I was hoping to go further in CL but got unlucky in 2 even games. My result in the league was best yet, making it my 4th consecutive scudetto. The loss came from Parma. ****!

http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/6237/98578317.png

Onto signings...

This season I raided Man Utd and signed 3 of their players on frees. I'm happy to have Asamoah (signed in 2012 by Utd) because in my defensive CM role I never felt like I had a really well rounded player but with him I think he's a good fit for my tactic.

http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/368/90400944.png

http://img593.imageshack.us/img593/3205/31994949.png

http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/9945/65787101.png

I'm going to play Smalling as a RB. I wish his dribbling and crossing would be higher but overall he is a better player than my previous more prototypcial RB. Two seasons ago I played Brands who was a completely defensive CB as my LB and he had a great season so tactically Smalling might work out.

This guy will be a future star:

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/3584/71500379.png

edit: Unfortunately because I already have 2 great Poacher types with higher speed and finishing I will have to mould this guy into more of a playmaker.

Another youngster:

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/132/46818295.png

This is a nice segway to.... If you have been paying attention you see that I have a few talented French players on my squad. I wanted to take an international job and after last year's Euro's I applied for the Italy, Spain, and French jobs. I had pickings and chose France because out of Europe and those teams I listed they seem to have the most talent. After getting the job I remembered that they won the last world cup so in a way it's not as exciting because I wanted to lead them to their first WC since 98 but they must have chosen me to fulfil their high expectations.

Another cool thing about France is that whenever I chose to manage a team whilst with a club in other FMs I'd often go with France. I remember I had a career with them in versions 06 and 10.

Here's the team I played for the first couple qualifying games:

http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/2808/15391669.png

*Corchia will be RB, Ordonez is a CB.

I like this French team, they have good depth in almost all positions and they will be all be at a good age when the WC rolls around in 2 years.

Here's a player which I'll be hanging a lot of my hopes onto for the future. Surprisingly I gave him his first caps.

http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/3901/70935481.png

I don't know why I didn't post about this guy when I bought him 3 seasons ago (it's nice to be able to compare when they first got here). He's my starting advanced/poacher striker and he's basically fully developed now. He came in with Dribbling at 10 if I remember but thanks to specialized training I got it to be a strength instead of a weakness. I really like the specialized training that you can now do in FM. Oh and my training schedules are made based off of the attribute weighting we discussed... basically targeted for each position as what each player should look like.

Something special could happen this season. It's almost the end of March and am currently undefeated in all competitions except a first leg loss in the first knockout phase of the CL. Fortunately I won the second leg and now await to play Chelsea in the quarters which will be a tough challenge.

My biggest regret in this game was selling Romario to a Brazilian team, who then was bought by Inter. When I had him he had some hidden mental deficiencies but they have gotten decent with time. I was going to buy him back but they deemed 50$ mil which I have but didn't want to give since it would ruin the whole flow of the game style. The board have agreed to build a new stadium. It will be 62,000 and named after me (H) and will take 3 years to finish building. They used 150mil from the bankroll we had and only needed to take out a loan for 30mil (even though we still have 80mil left in the balance).

I resumed this game because I couldn't get into any of my new one's started. I also felt like having an easy fun go and destroying teams with the best constructed team of all time. (H)

Left the game off at midseason after winning the Club World cup.

Finished the season.

Loss came against 17th place Modena smh.

Epic comeback against Lyon in the CL Final.

3 CLs in a row now. I was going to leave to go to a Romanian club but I don't think I can. New stadium is being built and will be ready the season after next one so I need to wait around for that (named after me). I've been giving money to Romanian clubs, loaning their youngsters for 2million dollars and having them train at my academy.

My team is actually better than yours. I'll throw up the squad in my thread.

yoyo913
11-08-2012, 03:13:PM
I didn't post my back-ups (which are good too). And your team might be slightly better but only slightly. My team is younger.

Give me a few more seasons for Molteni and Flegenal to fully develop too (they have 190+ PA they haven't reached).

Now thinking about it, my team is better because I got the best players in the world in terms of hidden mental attributes (which is cheating), that's why they won the CL 3 years in a row and have only lost 5 matches in the league in the last 4 years.

edit: Actually never mind, I see you have been getting amazing results as well so yours is slightly better.

But in my game my team is the best historically successful team.

Your team is younger, but that's just because I've kept around some of the best players in club history.

And I've won the Serie A 16 years in a row, I think I'm more successful.

Finally getting around to documenting about my new FM save.

The Cesena game is 99% lost, which is okay sine Fm13 just came out (don't have it yet through). I have the Cesena file on an old computer where I disconnected the cables to it because it only restarts and works for 90 seconds. And I'm about to throw it out soon. It's okay though because I achieved almost all that I needed too. My team won everything in consecutive years, my team is full of the best regens and almost everyone of the players developed. The only thing really left was to see that right back Dutch player developed but if I were to follow my original plan I would have kept the same team for the next 8 years so that probably wouldn't have been very entertaining.

-------------------

Ok so my new game is in FM06, my favorite retro version of the game. The 2d game engine is pretty fun and the game is simpler. Team talks are the easiest in this version. I honestly know which option to choose in almost all circumstances, it's awesome. In the new version I just click and hope and don't see much effect, in 06 I see an effect. This version also was the last one before affiliation teams, which is one of the few features I miss but no biggie. Buying players is good and fairly easy, so is selling. The media is very nice and light, not annoying like the current versions. And your inbox only has light news and is not clogged up with loads of stuff I don't care about. Tactics are decent but not very complex, you can't use crazy tactics and make them work. The game is easier but that might be because...

I am cheating. This version has the biggest "Cheat code" in all of fm history. Someone created a cheat training schedule where the sliders are hacked to go to all the way max. What this does is basically give every player you have (1 month after joining your team aprox.) +1 in every attribute. I am doing this because I like having a super team (in a smaller nation), and buying a player with a skillset of attributes I admire and having them increased by one. My save game is also trying to achieve a difficult goal which makes my cheating slightly more acceptable. Also I'll be using my beloved fmscout to see potential ability/hidden attributes and to do easier searching.

Alright, so finally onto the save game... I am picking Anderlecht because I like the fact that they are one of the bigger teams in Belgium, a smaller European league. The Belgian league is the 2nd best in the world in fm06 in terms of player freedom (only behind Holland which is completely unrestricted). The Belgian league allows you to buy and play players of any nationality, only restriction is that you must have 2 under21 players in the match squad. I like this freedom and the 2 under 21 players can be on the 7 man bench so it's not a big deal. I already bought a back up keeper who was 18 when I got him and the team started with Vanden Borre, one of this version's 17 year old wonder kids. But the biggest reason I chose this team was because...

Vincent Kompany. This player has been very interesting to me over the years of me playing FM06. He is one of the classic examples of how FM attributes were differently set-up in fm06, as you can see he has a strange distribution of them for his position and they appear much higher than now-a-days. This was normal in the 06 version, where many defenders/def mids (especially more unknown ones) had high attributes in finishing and strikers had some high positioning attributes. Also in FM attributes in general were higher. Like if 19 yr old Kompany was in FM13 with these attributes he'd be one of the best in the world, but in FM06 he is just around 150/200 current ability.

I never managed Kompany or Anderlecht before but during my time in FM I always found him special because he had a very weird skill set for a defender. I never got him with one of my big teams I've managed because, although he had a lot of skill and potential I didn't like that his positioning, jumping, heading and concentration were so low. So because of this I never bought him. I did notice however how good his attributes were for a striker. With the only thing really missing is a slightly higher finishing. This is 19yr old Kompany (screenshot from a different save game) :

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/6131/67906117.jpg

So the goal of my game is to make Kompany my main striker and have him score as many goals as possible. First task was to adapt him to striker (btw it took him a season to do so). I will also be playing him in all the games I can while rotating the rest of the squad. His Stamina, Nat Fitness and Injury Proneness (checked fmscout) is good so he should be alright doing so.

I finished the first season and this is my result so far midway through the second...

The new Kompany as striker, with the 'special training', and 1 year of developing:

http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/6301/34313423.jpg

As you can see he is quite excelling at his role. (Weird how his crossing is different, I bet it had a random number in the editor). He's in beast mode most of the time. If a defender is nervous on the ball he often snatches it from him with his superior physical and defensive skills. He is just an amazingly rounded striker, he's fast, strong in the air, on his feet and can shoot well.

Here was his first season:

http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/6628/21953184.jpg

I wasn't expecting him to be so effective. He's had a total of 2 months of injury so far which I wasn't expecting but that wasn't so bad. The rest of the team is very strong so that helps a lot.

I stumbled upon a really good tactic at getting the striker many goals while playing with Ajax. I messed around with the game and only played one pre-season game where I notice Babel (my ST) got 2 goals and 90% of the team's shots. This was HUGE luck because I didn't need to develop it much or stress about my tactic. It was literally the first tactic I devised for this and it worked.

http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/7672/50883831.jpg

The team is now full of South Americans and a few Portuguese players. I got rid of all the original players except Vanden Borre and Kompany.

The tactic is pretty simple, short passing, high pressing, medium creative freedom. Box to Box all-rounder CMs with the wingers on run with ball/crossing/forward run often, Kompany being the same minus the crossing. For whatever reason this really gives Kompany a lot of chances.

Before with FM scout I would search for potential as the main thing to looks for but now I'm having fun with this game and being really particular with each player I buy, looking more at attributes than current ability.

Here are the awesome CMs:

http://img803.imageshack.us/img803/9891/83821845.jpg

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/3016/53272393.jpg

---------------------------

So my new goal now is to get Kompany to score 1000 career goals. It sucks that Belgium is not playing him as a forward but I'll try to manage it without that. Last year he got a lot of goals in the qualifying matches for the CL and we lost in the first round knock-out to Arsenal in a series of matches I deserved to win.

I'll update with the progress.

Also this is funny:

I think the attributes weighting got changed in 2008, because there's no way you could have those stats now. I had Kompany and Vanden Borre in FM06, though. I used to play them in a 3 man defense with Nigel de Jong. I remember being so thrilled when Kompany moved to City, but now I kinda wish he sucked.

Got beaten badly by Man U in the CL semis. I was disappointed but it was a nice run I guess. Won the league by a large margin of course.

Ok so onto Kompany...

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/8904/newbitmapimagexo.png

This season he scored less than the last one.

Season 1: 86 goals in 53 apps (scoreless internationals included)
Season 2: 73 goals (international added) in 53 apps

Total (including player's first 2 seasons as defender): 163
Goal: 1000

-----------------------

Coincidentally same amount of appearances both years. :p
The team got 90 goals in the league so his 50 accounted for more than half.
This season he wasn't as prolific as the last one but last year he got injured here and there so I was hoping I would get more goals just based on matches played. The disappointment came when he got injured during the first leg of the Man U match and missed 5 of the last 6 matches.

What specifically do you need help with? If you ask for tips that's too broad since there are hundreds of tips that can be given.

If you want tactical help you can search FM forums for fm08 tactics that are proven and work better than something you might create, but some people find that part of the game fun to do themselves.

Well first of all if the first picture is what you use then there's a big mistake you're making. You have to play players in their right position, whatever it's listed as on their profile. Don't play Bridge as a CB, don't play Pizarro as a MC, don't play Di Maria as a WBR and don't play Kroos as a ST. Click on a player then go to positions and you'll see where he is suitable to play.

It's hard for you to sell players most likely because they have high salaries and other teams don't feel they are worth paying that much salary (because when they transfer they'll ask for similar wages) or/and they don't want to pay as much as you're asking.

I've never played with your formation so I can't comment on it. Usually I play a formation with a back 4: a 442 or 451 or 433. But yours should work, you just need to have the right settings/players.

You need to have a certain amount of money to buy players. For Messi and Ronaldo it's very high.

This game is a simulation. Would Chelsea be able to buy any of those players in real life?

How much money do you have?

Oh and you can make your own thread in the FM forum to ask these questions so that more people help. This thread is more of a blog like thing.

Juventino

ARIAGA II
14-12-2012, 05:37:AM
Even in FM 2010 you can buy him. The trick was to buy Milito or wait for him to be sold (happens pretty early). Messi then gets sad and you launch a mega bid and he's yours.

SI do a good job about predicting who is going to be a star and who isn't, but in all honesty the best strategy isn't to just buy the best players in Real Life 2012 because they don't have crystal balls.

My best suggestions are: Breno (Defender), Bogdan Stancu, Diego, Sotris Ninis, Miralem Pjanic, Pablo Piatti, Fellaini.

3) Edit out the end part, especially what may or may not be a borderline racist post on SG.

I only like those kind of videos on YouTube by a guy called Chris Smoove. He plays better games for a video like that, games with great graphics like NBA 2K or Assasins' Creed which makes it at least interesting to watch. He also combines footage from different types of game to create a story, it's entertaining.

Smoove is great. I started watching because of the NBA 2k videos.

PICK A TEAM ALREADY!!

It's going to impact the entire series of videos! It's a very important moment!

Would it be racist if I did parts of the video where I imitated a pissed off black gangsta'? I have a good NBA-er smack talk impression.

Fuck! My primary and back-up AMRs both got long term injuries. Luckily my DR can play AMR, and I'll slide Vanden Borre to DR. And I have another AMR but he's not that good.

So Kompany is having a killer season this year. I was wondering... I made him captain this season, perhaps that had a little to do with it?

In the quarters this year I'm playing CSKA so hopefully if I get past the I won't draw ManU.

The FUNNIEST goal in my fm history has just happened. My team fouled someone right on the line of the goal. Their keeper places the ball and steps back to take the kick and then it flashes that a goal was scored.

I finished the 3rd Anderlecht season and I will soon post the results but first I wanted to show what happened to Belgium in their group of death.

Squad:

First match:

Kompany's tournament ends in the 32nd minute :( of his first match and I lose my second best player as well.

2nd match: 0-1 Loss to England

3rd match: 2-2 Draw against France. The team was up 2-0 till the 78th so that was disappointing. Team doesn't move on.

Season Summary

Goal Total, 3rd season:

http://i.imgur.com/VQhxB.jpg

He had an incredible season, many 4 or 5 goals per game occurrences. I'd be surprised if he ever out-does this season. He seems to pick up 2-3 small injuries that last a couple weeks every season, so that slowed him down slightly but I can't really complain.

He got over 100 but I wish he would have gotten 100 for Anderlecht, so the best I could get a screenie of was #95:

The team beat CSKA without Kompany (injured), they got a lucky draw against Vilarreal in the semis and beat them easily. Man Utd was an even game and they did great in beating this tough team! Great accomplishment.

Kompany got player of the tournament.

Is there a way i can use other nations in fm 2011 ? i want to use my country but its no allowed maybe theres a way via the editor ?

yoyo913
09-01-2013, 04:55:AM
To play as a national team you need to have a certain amount of player to select it. I'm not sure of the exact amount but it may be 30 or more. So if there are not enough you can create more through the editor. Also make sure when starting the game to load player of the national team you are looking for.

Hisashi

So all i have to do is tick the declared for nation thing ?

yoyo913
09-01-2013, 05:14:AM
No, you have to have 30 or more players in the database have the nationality you need.

What do you think of Kompany's goal scoring prowess Hisashi?

Hisashi

TACTIC DISCUSSION

I want to create a very attacking and penetrative tactic. I'm willing to use the editor to get the right players to fit (not waste time making in-game transfers).
I'm looking to experiment with a tactic that has a DM and MC (and maybe an AM) that are on run forward often and have good passing/dribbling attributes. I'm thinking of putting a ML/MR or WBL/WBR pair that are workhorses to pick up the defensive slack of the attacking centre. I could go with 3 CBs or 2 FCs, I'm flexible.

How would you set up the rest of the tactic ideally ? And team instructions?

I didn't really understand what you were asking.

I want to make a tactic with an attacking DM and an attacking MC who are on run forward. I'd have a WBL/WBR or ML/MR combo that are workhorses to make up for the centre moving so forward.

How would you set-up the rest of the team/ what team instructions would you give?
