Here's an updated view of FIFA 2000:

Where do I begin??? By now you've seen the previous posting and you can probably tell I'm not happy. However let me start with the good points...

Thank God for the new goalkeepers. They are without a doubt the best improvement in this game. They look more realistic and act more realistic often coming out to meet the player who has the ball unlike FIFA 99 where they barely moved and often pushed the ball into their own net when you shot at them.

Another improvement is the ability to shield the ball from opponents and the moving crowd is a nice touch too. Unfortunately, the game is so easy at every level it is highly doubtful whether you will ever use the shielding option. As for the crowd in the stands, would it have really killed EA to have the supporters in both teams colours like normal fans???

The classic teams are a good idea and yet EA manage to ruin it by introducing a system where different colours affect your passing success and then having these classic teams play in a dark subdued setting with dark subdued colours whereby that passing system is rendered useless.

Speaking of passing, is there ever going to be a FIFA game where EA dump the awful "lob" button and replace it with a "chip" button for "chipping" the goalkeeper or perhaps a button which allows the player to hit a long ball to the strikers in addition to the through-ball button. I find that "lob" button is rather general in its purpose and that you can't lob the goalkeeper or hit a long-ball to the strikers.

I was also extremely disappointed with the overall presentation of the game. There is no reason why EA couldn't have kept the opening match sequences and given us a choice of stadiums. I also thought the player graphics were a bit of an insult considering the opulence of FIFA 99's players. I have a Pentium 3 with a TNT2 graphics card so I'm not running a low-end system here but as far as I am concerned the players looked half finished with the given impression that the artists half-heartedly designed the general look of them. I really feel that I bought a demo/beta version of the game before all the frills were added.

The other major disappointment I have with FIFA 2000, and this is mainly with EA and not the game, is the commentary. It is absolutely awful!!! Maybe I am biased because I'm an Englishman living in the States but I cannot stand the American commentators. Considering there are a lot of nationalities who reside in the US, why the hell can't I buy the UK version of FIFA 2000 from EA instead of having to order it from a website based in England and then send back MLS to EA for a full refund. No offence intended here to any Americans but a football match, and especially a FIFA game just isn't the same without John Motson commentating.

If you are new to the FIFA series you will not be disappointed (to be honest you don't know any better!). If you are a veteran like me stick to FIFA 99 or get into the management sims like Championship Manager 3. If this is the way graphical football games is going then you won't be missing out on much with a management sim.
