Hello, I’ve got some nice ideas for Fifa 2001, I hope you EA Sports-people read them:

1. Pitch size. The pitch should be bigger, it should be just as big as in real life. So a pitch should be around 150x70 m, so if a player is 2m (and most players are shorter) the pitch should be 75 times as long and 35 times as wide as the players that are walking on it.

2. Referees and tackles. Referees in Fifa 2000 suck! Sometimes you press ‘D’ in front of a player and you just take the ball and you get a red card and sometimes you don’t even get a free kick if you press ‘E’ at the back of a player and you don’t even hit the ball and the player is injured. There should also be a association between the hard a player gets kicked and falls and the decision of the referee. Also when a player that has broken through and is going for the keeper and gets brought down it is a red card. You should also be able to fake a foul, and the referee should be able to give a card for it but sometimes he should fall for it. At last the referees should not look like the home teams keeper. It would be nice if some bad-tempered players would fight each other or argue with the referee so that they get red.

3. Goalkeepers. Keepers in Fifa 2000 are full of contrasts. When you shout from a distance the keeper always has it, but sometimes the ball roles just past him and he is looking how it is going over the line. From a distance the keepers are far too good, I have never been able to score from a free kick. In real life lots of free kicks go in and the same goes for some long-distance shots. And there is no keeper in the world that is just looking how the ball crosses the line if he can easily do something about it. Keepers should also try to get crosses. Goalkeepers should be able to commit fouls, get injured and pick up balls that are played back (it know it is against the rules, but you should think of that if you try to pick the ball up).

4. Team Management. Instead of having pre-programmed formations, you should be able to have 10 players to put on the field where ever you want, it would also be nice if you could give them orders and tasks; some midfielders should be defending ones and other attacking ones, also, some players have free roles. A player should also have a preference, something he is good at. You should also be able to tell every team member what man they should mark. It is ridiculous that once you are in a game you have only five players to choose from if you want to substitute, you should be able to choose any of your players.

5. Transfers. The transfer system in Fifa 2000 is very simple but far from realistic, Fenerbahçe should not be able to buy Ronaldo (or No. 9). Players should have a Class or rating that indicates what teams they want to play for; let’s say Ronaldo is a Class A player so he only wants to play for Class A teams. Teams should also be able to get a higher Class when they win or when they get a higher ranking then the last year. Players should be more expensive or teams should be less rich, like I said, Fanerbahçe can’t afford Ronaldo. Players should also look at how big the chance is they will play. Loaning players to other clubs would also be nice.

6. Championships and seasons. Give them the correct names, not EC cup but Champions League. You should get money for every game you win, or even play at home, people give money for tickets, the more important the game the more money. If you win a championship or a competition, you should also get money.

7. Competitions and teams line-ups and players. Why are there Swedish, Turkish (where is the best Turkish team Galatasaray?) and Israelian leagues and isn’t there a Portuguese one? Why does Feyenoord have a keeper named Graafland in the goal if they have Dudek? Why can’t I find Bogarde and Reiziger with Barcelona?

8. Players. Players should have more realistic stats. Players should have some sort of personality and a mentality, like Mihailovic loses his temper quickly and Davids can help his team out of trouble, some players can create a good atmosphere in the team, some players are lazy, some are real workers. Players should have a Class. Players should also have a height, a weight and an age which should influence the game. Players should have on and off days. Old players will retire eventually and new talents will come out of your training school. Let us edit team captains, the captain can drag his team along in hard times.

9. Training. It would be great if a players attributes could in- or decrease. If you train them well and they play a lot and they are young, they should increase, if players don’t play much or if their training sucks or they are getting old they should decrease. It would also be great if you can create moves for your players and have a key for them. For every attribute there should be a training exercise. There should also be keepers-training.

10. Coaches. Coaches would be nice. The better the coach, the quicker the progress of the players attributes. Coaches should have attributes for learning stuff to players. Coaches can be fired or they can quit. A coach should also have a Class.

11. Free kicks, corners, throw-ins. I thought the system in Fifa ’99 was so much greater than this one, you should also be able to program standard situations in the training. You should also be able to choose a player that will take the free kick per situation.

12. Injuries. Players should be injured longer and sometimes they can be injured so bad they can’t ever play again, there should also be differences in injuries. But it should not be like when players collide there heads they have a broken leg. If players are so badly injured that they can’t play on they are mostly not able to walk of the pitch. If a player gets injured and you don’t have any substitutions left the player does not play on. Maybe you can introduce blood, because of the blood rule.

13. Stadiums. The option to choose in what stadium you will play from Fifa ’99 would be nice in Fifa 2001. Every stadium has a different pitch size, another grass type (long/short) and other adboards.

14. Balls. Maybe it is nice if every club would have a ball.

15. Shoes. Every player wears other shoes, let us pick shoes for our players.

16. Shirts, shorts and socks. It would be nice if there was some sort of editor for these things. We also want to give the goalkeeper a jersey. When the weather is bad and it snows or rains players often wear long sleeves, when the weather is good and the sun shines the keeper has short sleeves.

17. Gameplay. Stop switching keys all the time, when you’re just getting used to the controls of Fifa ’99, Fifa 2000 comes with new controls, I hope the controls in Fifa 2001 will stay the same.

18. Mistakes. I think everyone should make mistakes sometimes, it makes the game more realistic.

19. Game speed and difficulty. There should be more options than fast-faster-fastest, why don’t you make it slowest-slower-slow-average-fast-faster-fastest? The same goes for the difficulty.

20. Commentary. Please have commentary for all players and teams.

21. Graphics. The graphics in Fifa 2000 were pretty nice but please have players faces better and make it possible for them to wear glasses or jewellery. All graphics could be better.

22. Player and clubs names. Let us edit names without limitation.

Thanks for reading this.

I think they need better, slower gameplay, not pinball like in Fifa 2k, and bigger pitches.

It all depends on EA to really put the effort in. Nice suggestions though.
