View Full Version : If you were the owner of EA what would you do?

First, I would fire the marketing crew, since they done very poorly on collecting accurate data on players, national teams, leagues, the consumer target market, and so on.

Then I would like to see the following improvements on the game.

1) Free of bugs

2) Commentators that speak other languages other than English, e.g. Spanish, French, Italian, German, etc.

3) Get goalkeepers to get injured in gameplay, ejected and to commit fouls in and outside the goalie's box.

4) Have a higher percentage of scoring penalties, since it's more easier to score from a free kick than it's from a penalty shot (how unrealistic, as well as dumb).

5) Fans complaining about the poor performance of the team (like in CM 00/01)

6) Media able to critique the club, players, manager(like in CM 00/01) and why not, the chairman too

7) Complain about the bad decisons a ref took in a game (like in CM 00/01)

8) Have interviews with the players/manager before and after the game

9) If the manager (we) get fired, have the option to manage another team, rather than start the game all over

10) Have goals score most of the time inside the box, rather than shots outside the box (like in the current game happens, how stupid)

11) Less injuries (I usually get 2 or more injuries per game in the current FAPLM, EA really exagerated in this area) as well as players retiring from injuries

12) Have the other teams build new stadiums too and other facilities

13) Managers screaming (clapping, or what not) at the ref, and his players)

14) Customizing club names, so if there is a club or league not included in the game, I can created one my own.

15) Provide us with a huge list of players that can play for their national teams and let us decide what players to have on the roster.

16) Have goals score in different ways, not just a few like in the current FAPLM has (since already I can predict from where the player will score).

17) Have subs run when they come on the pitch (for some stupid decision by EA personnel) they don't run in the current one

18) Include a better kit for customizing jerseys (the current one it too basic)

19) If you (EA) includes again the feature of players getting old, pliz don't have them came back with weird names (since the commetator still says their oringal names, so what's the point here?)

20)Chairman should let us buy the players we want ( I know they do it for our safety or not making the goal that we choose and not ending up with a certain balance at the end of the 3 years). However, we can promote our young players and sell them, also we can sell our senior players, this way we don't depend on sold tickets, therefore the chairman should let us purchase any player.

21) I WISH EA READ THIS

22) PLUS your own suggestions

At the EA Sports web site they were advertising for new researches for the database for FM 2002 - I put my name down! I could do a lot better job at the Australian and New Zealand leagues, I mean Fred De Jong (FM 2001 Kingz striker) is long retired and is now a full-time New Zealand TV commentator!

Hey man, can you provide us with the web address that can takes directly where we can leave our names too

I mean, it might not be possible to get in very easily, but nothing it's impossible, right?

They need new talent and much more knoledge in their development for improving football games (soccer for EA).

Well if I was the owner of EA. I would contribute more money in the developing of soccer manager games. I mean, take some time in fixing the Seria A or the Primera Liga.

I also want them to fix up the Australian League. Be able to be the Wollongong Wolves or Marconi.

Or maybe get the chance to manage a national team. Also, fix the friendlies up.

Be able to add a team of your choice in the database editor.

Just fix up the little bits to make a good game even better.

Good point ZAP, that would be awesome if they let us add a team of our choice and even better if they let us add unlimited teams of our choice. :D

But also, provide us with a EA graph where we can create the official logos of each club on their jerseys. I know they don't come with the game, cozz otherwise those companies would had to pay EA to have them on. However, EA can give us that alternative. Furthermore, they should also let us configure/add a commentator from our own preference. There are great commentators out there, it would be awesome if EA let us some how add ones of our own preference.

While EA's favouring Manchester, I've also noticed how poorly Deportivo La Coruna play. I decided to check it out and, as it turns out, theyve got so many Non Eu players that they decide not include thier Non Eu golaies in favour of some midfielders! They end up putting a spanish defender at GK and come near the bottom of the table! The teams should prioritise GK ahead of other positions if they have lots of Non Eu Players.

Now with the new office opened in Germany, I think this is going to create more prejudice against latin american leagues (clubs).

I know there is not enough revenue that can be collected from Latin America, as there is in Europe. However, that's not the point, what matters is to serve the needs of the consumers, and certainly EA is not doing it.

They just want to make profit, that's all it matters to them; otherwise, they would have done something long time ago to acquire the licenses of Latin American leagues but since they know there will not be enough profits from this market segment, they just ignored us.

P.S. That's how realistic business is in all the fields.

haha
29-04-2001, 12:31:PM
Well if i owned ea sports and was going to design the game, all i would do is update the database, add a few new designs for stands and thats about it. IT will still sell so why bother to make vaste inprovements??

your_worst_night_mare
18-05-2001, 06:46:PM
That's the reason EA doesn't make drastically changes because they know their games will still be purchase by us, until there is an effective competitor that can steal some of their market segment, then we will see major improvements, but only until then.

haha
19-05-2001, 01:03:AM
But they won't cus it will still sell.

uuh.......I don't know?
20-05-2001, 06:59:AM
Yes and EA like they do every year with Fifa....will add some new minor features to give the game a little hype or something to talk/ look forward too. This is done to keep already hooked consumers buying Fifa year after year!

Oi
21-05-2001, 06:59:AM
yeah thats the prob with EA sometimes a serious lack of innovation!

haha
22-05-2001, 07:09:AM
Where did you find out USA were the predicted champions for 2022??

But if you were the boss of EA sports would you really completly revamp the game, or would you just add a few things here and there?

Woo
24-05-2001, 10:21:PM
i hope they won't change too much but rather improve on the current game. the last thing i want is new features with bugs. the only thing i hope they can improve is give more satisfaction when you won a cup or league. maybe show you carry the cup or something.

Some should be improved in FA Manager 2002:
1. Why we only upgrade the stadium, training center... only one time at the beginning game? After that nothing changes. Thing shoud be always changed: a stadium with over 60,000 seats in 2001 is big but in 2006 shoud be upgraded more to 150,000 sheets.
2. Boosting the young team make their skill up. OK. But stop boosting for a while the skill drop awfully. This is unreasonable. Must be only a little bit down, e.g, from 62 down to 61, 60.
3. The interface be easy to use. For ex, in team/squad we see player but have no relation to training them. Must escape, come to squad/training....
4. I am a manager, but I have no tool to record my training event on my player. Is it better if with a player, I have a window of text to record any thing I like.
5. The game is based heavily on players and forget the advisor/assistant group such as . This should be develop more. It is reasonable because the main manager can not do well without knowing how to use the assistants.

I would like to see that EA takes a better look also at the finances.
Because i suspected that something was wrong i edit the dutch league i choose my club and made the stadium to 50000 seats and the others to zero and there starting finances also at zero.
So i started playing looking to the finances of the other clubs they earnd a 175000 for there home matches.
And what do i see in the second year a minor club bought for 60 mln 3 players.
When i try to do this the board calls me back but that little club bought them and they didn't have high rated players to sell to get that kind of cash.
EA should give the AI teams the same restrictions when it comes to finances because this is NOT REAL LIFE.

I would like to see the following improvements in the game:

1. Being able to manage international teams if you do well at club level, and be able to select from the main menu international management directly.
2. Improving the 3D Match Engine and getting rid of bugs. Get goalies to commit inside and outside the box, get injured and get fouls against them as well as yellow and red cards.
Also have more goals scored inside the box. Have the attackers chip, scoop or curl past keeper and finish cleanly rather than performing the bug of blasting it wide. Also have long range chips and curling shots!
4. About the 3D Match Engine. Have curled balls depending on skill level of player, and more chance of penalties going in.
5. Reduce chance of players getting injured with the Boost feature.
6. Allow clubs to enhance reputation as they win cups etc and reputation to decrease as clubs are relegated etc.
7. Have build up movies before big games and celebrations if they have won something.
8. Allow pre-contract agreements (Bosman ruling)
9. Allow us to develop smaller facilities within a bigger facility (e.g. Training Centre could have a club canteen!!)
10. Have fans complaining about poor performances.
11. Be able to communicate with players during training sessions.
12. Be able to have personal managerial interviews.
13. Have interviews with players/manager before and after matches.
14. Have managers communicating to referees and players alike (screaming and clapping)
15. Have managers sent off from the dugout.
16. Bring in linesmen and 4th Official
17. In player profiles have a languages section of the languages he can speak (like in CM 00-01)
18. Have a 3D movie of dressing rooms before and after a match. Be able to communicate with players and discuss tactics etc

I dearly wish EA would read this

Oh and some more points:
19. When it comes to about half-time or full-time, show the 4th Official holding up the board saying how much of stoppage time there is to play.
20. Be able to view the trophy room in 3D(like with viewing stadia).
21. Be able to view your Development buildings 3D (like with viewing stadia again).
22. Have clubs other then your own upgrading stadiums, building development and maintenance facilities.
23. As Roque2Roque said, have finances more realistic.
24. Add new designs for stadiums as haha said.
25. Be able to develop facilities within your stadium (e.g. catering kiosks, toilets, sick rooms etc, you know what I mean!!).
26. Have a Merchandise screen, a Catering screen and a Broadcasting screen to make television deals with (like Manchester United and MUTV).
27. Have a sponsorship and advertisement screen with real sponsors and mock up companies.
28. Be able to choose your language of preference for navigating the game or for just pure fun (e.g. French, Italian etc)
29. Have the commentary in different. Changable in the settings screen languages, also changable in the settings screen.
30. Also be able to have a choice of commentators in the Settings screen (e.g. Martin Tyler, Clive Tyldsley, Peter Drury, Peter Brackley etc)
31. Show 3D Views of players picking up player of the month awards etc, as well as managers picking up manager of the month awards etc, etc, etc.
32. Have players react on the pitch to certain goings on in the league (e.g. Relegation, avoiding relegation by the skin of your teeth etc)
33. Make international teams a lot more realistic when managing a club. Have a team like France or the almighty England winning European Championships, and the likes of Brazil winning the World Cups rather than seeing a crappy team of the likes of Andorra or India getting into the Final Group stages and going on to win the damn things!! This is an area EA needs to improve on. Have the teams like Andorra having their arses whooped by Portugal 7-0 and having no hope of qualifying like India. Also international teams can grow reputation like clubs for performances on the pitch.
34. Also be more realistic with clubs. The Andorran clubs for example getting to the next couple of rounds. In real life, their clubs wouldn't even have a hope of passing even the 1st Qualifying Round, losing something like 18-0 on aggregate, you know what I mean!!.
35. During 3D matches, show crowds if they are scuffling, violent or a total riot in the stand. It could also have people burning seats and even someone throwing a scooter from the stand!! (like at a Serie A match at the San Siro this season). Of course it has to be very rare, and English hooliganism has gone now, and you don't really find any hooliganism in France, Holland etc.
36. Fix the bug of smaller teams once in the Premier League from lower divisions not being able to buy star players because of their 'set in stone' reputation, which is low(more on reputation in point 6).
37. And finally, have a more realistic database. For example even the top teams in Africa and Asia etc having capacities of 1,000-10,000.

Phew!!!

That is finally the end of my list. I dearly wish that EA also read this extension too!!

Okay... This is to HaHa's post about EA, and that they will probably not bother too much because they know that we will buy the games anyway. Well i'm afraid they are already proving you wrong mate. With their introduction of their German studios and we've already seen the vast improvements through the released screenshots. But don't take this as a dig HaHa... I'm glad they are improving their repetitive games. By the way, some of you might remember me on the old board as Nikrunner. And my question is, the Germans are developing the german manager 2002, will it be released as an English manager game, as the FAPLM games were released also as German games? I sincerely hope so... C-ya later

Mufc_spank_all

I sort of agree with The Gaffer. I hope having another office in Germany will hopefully boost our chances, I say hopefully, of seeing a better game which is also more free of bugs, as well as new features with no potential bugs attached to it!!

The only way that EA can make major improvements to their football games (soccer to EA), especially to their software games, is by someone else taking a big market segment away from them. This way they will be force to make drastic changes, in the mean time, they will remain making little s-h-i-t-t-y improvements.

Mufc_spank_all

And probably the most likely to steal their market segment is the Championship Manager series. In my opinion at least.

I just want the game to be more realistic, that's all...if you have play CM 00/01 you know what I mean, their games is 100% more realistic than FAPLM. Although the only down side of CM is that it doesn't have 3D match engine. :(

Quit true mate. Chmapionship Manager has the better detail and depth, but Football Manager 2001 does have the power of the 3D match engine.
Also in Football Manager 2002, the AI will be better and the coaches will be shouting as you will have probably read from the fact sheet on the new game.

Actually, you can train players individually. But FM is copying CM by using the new fastview option I think. In the fact sheet i think it said that there will be text commentry in fastview now. So thats definately a step foward for the game. Hopefully the teams will have more players too now

27-07-2001, 10:09:AM
I agree with you on that Gaffer. I think that on the 3D engine when you're in a penalty shoot out, the game should pause and show you your squad, and five penalty places. Then, you can select your spot kick takers. Then it pauses again, when it will go to sudden death penalties.
