How do you lot rate Mikael Silvestre I think he's very good. He's fast and strong.
He can get a few good crosses in aswell

He's good, very fast and skillful player.
Many people criticized him when he joined United 2 years ago, but now his brilliant performance has shut their mouth. And now he's playing for France, hopefully we can see him playing for France in the World Cup next year...

When he first joined United he did look a little unsteady in defence making silly mistakes etc....now he looks very strong though, his defending is very good now but his going forward is excellent, he can dribble very well too.

Brilliant player. He's learnt alot under Denis Irwin.

I think they should use him instead of Dennis Irwin or Phil Neville

Phil Neville used to look a very promising player at the start but somehow he has gone waaaay downhill from there.
Gary Neville however is starting to show some stable performances for United and England.

I got only 3 words to say about Silvestre:
HA
HA
HA

oh, and I forgot:
HA!

Silvestre is not an "Manchester United Matirial"
just like Salgado is no "Real Madrid Matirial"
such big teams need much more bigger players,
every game of Man. U. I saw, which Silvestre played,
most of the attacks (and goals) came from his side...

now United are talking about nesta or cannavaro...
well... that's a Manchester United Matirial...

I don't think much of him...
+ think he's a tad overrated !!
sure he's skillful, and fast
but just forgets too often what defending is about and lacks concentration in his flicks and back heals and all that ....
Plus he's only in the Natioanl side coz behind him is LeBoeuf .... hahaha
no that's what I call a crap player

Nah disagree. Silvestre has improved a lot on defending and attacking, sure he still has the odd lapse of concentration which needs some working on but the guy is only 24, he can still learn.
If you have watched him on the french side and/or manutd you will see that he is quite good.

The True:
Why do united need to have big players all the time, it doesn't always work out very well(ie Zidane).
in 1996, who was David beckham, we was nobody no one had ever heard of him but in them days all the talk was about the likes of Del Piero etc.....yet united didn't buy him, the stayed with Beckham and look who he is now.One of the best footballers in the world.

Can't stop the rush...

Beckham was conciderd as a talented player since he was a kid
overall way to go for Man. U. for dependenig on her youth teams
to provide players for the premier team,
but even Fergusun relized he should bring some strong side
to the team (veron, nistelroy, cantona before etc.).

as for Zidane, you can see now that he "merged" in the team
and they play good together... just like Figo last year.

you're right that Beckham did become a superstar,
but not every promising kid grow up to be that way
United could easily fall with a bad generation of players
and then they will be stuck...

naaaaaa, no way! they are the richest team in the world...

A year ago, i hated Silvestre. He was making mistakes, poor back passes, lost the ball a lot, couldn't dribble, etc, etc. I have to admit that he has made amazing progress and has recently been making a noticeable impact on important games. Against Tottenham, for example, when he replaced Irwin the difference was clear. Rather than just defending, he was gaining possession, then making bold and fast runs down the LHS, deep into Tottenham territory, and played some beautiful balls in to the box. I think it was Silvestre that provided Cole with the first goal from a beautiful cross. All in all, he has become an important and underrated part of the team, in both defence and attack.
Even though he is still young, and still learning, he has shown what a quality player he can be. I think most Silvestre-knockers have had to eat their words...

By the way...Cannavaro on his way to Man Utd? Bring it on, i say! Despite the arrival of Blanc, we still need one more quality defender to secure the back line. I've been a great admirer of Cannavaro for years, and would love to see him at Old Trafford.

Any thoughts on that one guys?

Cannavaro won't come to man utd. If you are a defender, why leave italy and go to england? Serie A is the best league for defenders.

man united forever

When Silvestre first played for Manchester United, I absolutely hated the sight of him. I thought he was utter rubbish, the way he used to play(in hindsight, I don' think his cause was helped by Massimo Taibi or Mark Bosnich). Nowadays, though, he's an integral part of the team. His attacking runs on the left hand side against Tottenham in the absence of Ryan Giggs provided the cutting edge United had been lacking for most of the first half. Remember it was his run into the box against Panathinaikos in the Champions' League last season that set up Paul Scholes for the crucial goal at Old Trafford(United went on to win 3-1). It's true that Silvestre doesn't get back to defend quickly enough, but usually one of the midfielders does drop back to fill in his space. Maybe one day he'll turn into a Roberto Carlos-style wingback. And about Cannavaro, I hope he does decide to join Manchester United. Blanc has proven to be too slow for the English game, and there are definitely some problems in central defence. However I don't think Ferguson will be allowed to buy another player this season and once Wes Brown recovers from injury, the defence should be sorted out with Johnsen(who's played well so far) partnering him in defence.

i think he has improved a lot since he joined man u.. and for now i think he is the best defender for man u... forget about blanc... he is just too old and too slow if a speedy striker get to him then so long man u...

For me, Mikael still gives the ball away too oftern, but that's something he just has to learn, i think he will improve, good luck to the guy!
