View Full Version : United blunder again
genesis 18-10-2001, 04:09:PM I'm an united fan, I would like to give full support to them, but look at what they displayed in this match, especially the defence, I'm really disappointed. They let Deportivo displaying their strength as the Spanish leaders.
Two Barthez's school boy errors and the misunderstanding with Wes Brown, plus a lot of defensive errors that might give Deportivo far more goals ahead.
Maybe Johnsen's early exit was a turning point, but
Blanc - slow and lack of concentration
Gary Neville - Poor positioning as usual
Brown - lack of confidence
has let United down again and again.
If United play on like this, they will surely in deep trouble.
Maybe Keane can play as a free role defence to solve the problem and release the congested midfield.
Dhruv 18-10-2001, 07:06:PM why are we all dammit concentrating on the defense? what about midfield and offense....?
Agreed that there's no understanding between Brown and Barthez but thats not all....they could have easily drawn with Depor with the great attack they have displayed so often but Depor help on and well....they won...
So Man U have their Job cut out...
andylau 18-10-2001, 07:59:PM Long May Be It Continue!!!!! :lol
Amika 18-10-2001, 09:45:PM well, i think the sales of stam will haunt fergie for the rest of this season...
Alex C. 19-10-2001, 02:59:AM Maybe Alex Ferguson should let David May, John O'Shea, Ronnie Wallwork and Alan Tate to play in central defense.
And in Barthez's case, I admit that he played sh*t and responsible for that goals in the game, and he's totally nervous. But I hope he can recover as soon as possible......
p.s. Remember what Shay Given did in the opening match against Chelsea in August 2001? He did the same stuff as Massimo Taibi v Southampton in 1999!!
p.s.2 Fergie should give up 4-4-1-1 formation, it's totally suck, Paul Scholes doesn't suit the formation, maybe let Dwight Yorke to play that role........

I don't agree with you on this genesis. I thought that Blanc had a magnificent game. He was stealing the ball with a great confidence, so I don't know how you can say he wasn't concentrating.
Wes Brown was brilliant, most of the time, he was the quickest to defend, beating Tristan to the ball most of the time. Give him time, and he'll learn from this, but even HE thought that Bartez was hitting the balls into row "Z".
Gary Neville, stop blaming the guy, his link up play with Beckham was brilliant, and when he goes forward, Beckham should cover back, but he didn't on one occsasion, and Deportivo scored their second.
I think that Fabien is to blame, he knows it, so don't blame the WHOLE side for his mistakes. I can undersand it to a certain extent, but you also have to understand that the whole team is adapting to a different style of play, the spine of the team is defferent from '99. And, you'll remember that in that season, Barcelona came to Old Trafford and almost beat United, but they came back to put in a SUPERB performance in the Nou Camp. Fabien is to blame, but that doens't mean he's crap. It's just something that he thrives on has caught him out, and he can only learn from that, and learning is a good thing.
If you were REALLY behind the team, you'd be defending them, not just jumping on the band wagon.
D.Tristan900 19-10-2001, 06:14:AM It's a shame there had to be a loser, it was a great game. I'm very happy that Deportivo won obviuosly but I think the turing point in the match was when Johnson went off and wes Brown came on. Wes didn't communicate very well with Barthez and that cost them. It's such a shame really as Wes is so young and has a big future that he has to let the team down like. It will not do Barthez's moral very good either,His reaction after the match showed it all.
The game was very tight and there were basically equal possesion and shots on goal. Deportivo deserved to win it as they toke thier chances brillantly. Thier awareness and will to go on and on was there to see. and also they had several players out injured aswell so that shows they have great strengh in depth!:D :D Valeron is normally not in the first team line up and his performance was outstanding. He got man of the match.
I think Man.Utd need a new centre of some sort or a new goalkeeper, althaugh Iam a big fan of Barthez.
What you guys think?
Well in this match it proved what i have been saying for years

IceBlu 19-10-2001, 08:08:AM hey D.Tristan..........i'm with u on this 1.....
:D
Amika 19-10-2001, 03:02:PM i must say that barthez days are number... he will follow westerveld soon... fergie will have to act soon or just have a chat with the guy... something has to be done...
andylau 19-10-2001, 05:14:PM Fergie should have a chat with Barthez. Just tell him to continue his current 'brilliant' form and he'll be the No 1 keeper.
LOL
genesis 19-10-2001, 07:16:PM Too sad to know Johnsen will be out of 5 weeks.
He just back from injury not long ago, and from my observation, he's slowly building up a good understanding with Blanc and Barthez.
Too sad.
Maybe David May is more suitable for Brown to play those European matches.
Let Brown play more in League cup first to gain more experience.
Johnson is a mad defender. Pity he's going to be out for 5 weeks :(
