Holland dominated the 1st half but the Czechs totally closed down Holland in the 2nd. The score could have been 4-0 for the Czechs, but the ball hit the post in all ocassions. It was all over when a penalty was issued to Holland! Then to make it all worse a red card was issued to a Czech substitute! Poor Czechs!!!

I agree, poor Czech's they showed so much heart, I don't think Holland deserved to win at all, and if they play that way against France they'll be destroyed.

I feel really sorry for the Czechs, but De Boer was having his shirt tugged, and the defender didn't even need to tug his shirt!

I thought it was a clear foul, the defender was tugging his shirt. My question is about the red card to the Czech player on the bench. Maybe they talked about it during the commentary but I was in a noisy pub full of Dutch people so even if I wanted to hear the commentary I would have been unable to do so. What was the red card for? The foul beforehand went against Holland, why would he have been protesting?

I have been very nagative about the refs so far but now Collina showed some real class and he really ruled on the field.

Yes it was a penalty - WHY OH WHY U STUPID DEFENDER!!!

Hmmm let's hope the Czechs win against France and this will be real drama in this group.. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

And for all u Czechs - I know how it feels...I'm swede.. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

I only watched the 2nd half, so I definitely think the Czech's deserved at least one point. I feel kinda sorry for them. Nedved's header in the post were really unlucky. But it looked like a penalty to me, although it also looked like De Boer exaggerated just a bit when he went down. Well, I just want to wish Czech Rep. good luck in the rest of the tournament. They both need it and deserve it.

Not a happy Czech http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif

But I have to agree that it was a 'borderline' penalty. Of course, he made a meal of it... but that is the modern game. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif I also thought the ref'ing was generally good.

However, we were unlucky. First half we were owned, but in the 2nd it was a different team playing. I couldn't believe the change. We should have won, were unlucky to not get at least a point, but it was the best game of the tourney so far.

What really impressed me was the fact that, unlike the Sweden/Belgium game yesterday, there was some real class footie played. I mean, passes actually went to own team members!!! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

HOLLAND PLAYED POOR!!
The Czech tactics in the first half was outstanding and their task of frustrating holland worked.

FRANCE REALLY SHOWED THEIR CLASS EARLIER!!!

It was a penalty and allthough the dive was a bit too much, he clearly had his shirt tugged. The referee did well, the Czechs too, they were very unlucky and I do feel sorry for them, but there are still two more matches to be played. I think the Czech R. came a long way since their 2nd place in England. They play a much more open and attacking game. The pressure was on for the dutch (home game, "favorites", 1st game, etc.) and they never really played their beautiful attacking football. Still if the Czechs had been without Nedved, it might have been different. He played an outstanding game.

Sorry to see that "some" of us really wonīt believe what they see......
Congrats to the dutch, and to the Czechs...

It looked like he (Latal) was asking for a yellow card from Collina for the foul on a Czech player. Probably Latal said something in English or Italian and was dismissed for that. On the channel I was watching the commentators didnīt know either...

it was a penalty no question and the REF was excellent...
Pavel Nedved and his fellow players showed a heart of a lion really, let's hope England show us the same spirit tomorrow..
EURO2000 is shaping up to be an all-time classic!

Mrkovic maybe you should ask yourself what game you are watching because almost all the ppl here have said it was a penalty!

Kewell the Jewell shut the f**k up. Maybe I should ask my self what game I was watching?? He dived 10 seconds after he pulled his jersey. Did you watch reports on Television?. They ALL said how this was a terrible call. I only wonder how much holland payed the ref not to get an embarrasing loss after being called the favourites. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/mad.gif

This match was incredibly entertaining...although De Boer did dive the Czech defender shouldn't of been pulling on his jersey and De Boer simply acted smart and went along with the tug...Czech Republic lost because of stupidity by that defender...

I'll admit Holland got very lucky in this one -- Czech shots hitting the woodwork, one of them even sitting right on top of the line, etc. -- but they really did play better in the first half. It fell apart in the second half and the Czechs played very classy football and deserved a point. However, I don't know that the Czechs deserved to win...Holland got very good chances on goal which were also very near to being goals, just as the Czechs did.

As for the penalty, even if de Boer DID dive after the tug, there was a tug which impeded him from reaching the ball, and that is a foul. Players dive all the time to exacerbate the foul, it happened earlier in the Italy-Turkey match. But there was a foul there and I personally think the penalty was a good call.

Of course, the debate will never end. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

BTW, I loved watching Jaap Stam get stitches on the sidelines, he's a tough sucker. Alas, the poor woman sitting near me almost got sick watching it.

mrkovic how bout you shut the **** up??

dont you realise that even if he did dive that it was still a foul???????????????

are you a retard or can you not see that players will make a meal out of everything so its not an isolated incident!

and yes i have seen television replays and he was tugging his shirt!

just because he dives and makes the most out of it doesnt mean that there isnt a foul there!

can you get that into your thick head!?!?

Yes it was embelished but it was most definitely a foul and a penalty. I'm surprised the call was made, though...usually that late in a match a good ref will avoid calling all but the most blatant fouls...let them play I say. Now I believe Colina is an excellent ref... but the call, well, it was harsh...but it was a foul!

I'm a Orange supporter but I was disspointed by the way they played.. I think that if something does not improve ...France will eat them up..Anelka and Henry look very scary!!!!

Poor Czechs but they cannot complain. What idiot pulls an attackers shirt in the penalty box in plain view of the referee. The answer is NIMITZ.

Just goes to show you must take your chances at this level of competition. England take note. Dutch looked vulnerable in the air.

I think Poborsky's miss was the real clanger he should have put that in, that was the decider and Bejbl's miss at the end just told you it wasn't their night. Of course all the other teams are going to treat them differently now and they have lost their chance to be surprise qualifiers.

I agree the Dutch one was a penalty, but what about the Turks, they also shown a lot of heart for all their work to be snatched away by 1 terrible decision, that led to a penalty.
Overall I am impressed with the refs so far, I have only seen 1 bad decision so far and they are not being as easily fooled by all the diving and are allowing contact, unlike in the world cup.

Holland has to grow in a tournament, but they didn't deserve to win tha game.... allthough it was a clear penalty.. THANK YOU PIERELUIGI COLLINA!!!! I thank Italy for such a great ref, whahaha.... that man deserves a truck full of flowers ;o)

I think Collina is a brilliant ref, and until the 89th minute he called a perfect game, but the penatly was a bad decision.

It may be that the rules say it was o.k., as every jersey-pullig HAS to be called according to the UEFA, but given the timepoint and the way the match went it sucked.I admit that the penalty vs. Turkey also should not have been given, but in both cases the messagge is:
WHY DID THE TURK PUSH INZAGHI AND WHY DID THE CZECH DEFENDER PULL THE JERSEY???
2 very stupid actions.
