View Full Version : disgrace NEWC 0 / Spurs 2
ShearerM4 22-10-2001, 09:47:AM Talk about a disgrace !! losing at home (once again) and v Spurs that we thrashed 6-1 not that long ago, it shows how far the Londoners have come since then, and us in contrast.....

Poyet's really starting to annoy me !! well he got tottenham's second and the game was over at half time .. Well after 20 minutes

only rarely did Newcastle get any chances
that's always da problem ... go and win a great game + performance .. and then they never follow it up, that's how you lie in mid table .(9th)

Ubik Valis 22-10-2001, 10:05:AM Hehe, something tels me Simonius and Fifafreak are gonna be hella happy...... :D :p :crazyboy:
IceBlu 22-10-2001, 10:44:AM LOL :D
Amika 22-10-2001, 04:30:PM well, shearerM4.. i saw the last 10 minutes or so and newcastle got lots of chances but didn't take any single one of them...
and to be frank.. spur has improved a lot since hoddle take charges... and since they brought ziege... ;)
andylau 22-10-2001, 09:22:PM Sorry, ShearerM4... Spurs has changed a lot since the 6-1 thrashing... new players, new manager, new formation, new tactic and new style (which is a delighted to watch nowadays)
But I think if Newcastle have played the way they played in the last 10 minutes, they might have a chance. But, well, it's too late by then.
Not sure it's the tactical change of Newcastle, or the Spurs 'experienced' players getting tired.
ShearerM4 23-10-2001, 08:58:AM yeah I spose
well it's just hard to figure out they can be great one week (v ManU or v Bolton)
and the next crap (v WestH - Spurs)
:D :D
can't wait till Kieron DYER & Carl CORT are back
Cort was a great player at Wimbledon. How his injuries havn't harmed him :(
ShearerM4 23-10-2001, 09:10:AM well you see last season .. if he gets a few games under his belt .. he starts bagging them in
FIFAfreak 23-10-2001, 01:55:PM What a great road win! They still have a lot of room for improvement but Hoddle has then going in the right direction. They're passing and attacking is much better. The change in personnel is a great help too. Hoddle is the man! Go Spurs!
andylau 23-10-2001, 07:58:PM Hey, FIFAfreak... we are of the same team...
Yeah, Spurs certainly look better compare to last season. What immediate impact Hoddle has on the team!!!
Your doing incrediably well considering Sol left.
andylau 24-10-2001, 07:44:PM Although I'm pleased with the midfield and attack, I'm still not that confidence with the defence. They do look a little shaky under pressure during matches.
ShearerM4 25-10-2001, 02:11:AM Well buying RICHARDS is sure gonna help !!!
he's a great player, and will only get better

yeah sure 7-1 .. that was 4 years ago !!
I was talking about 22nd December 1999 FA Cup 3rd Round Replay
St James Park
Newcastle 6 (Speed, Dabizas, Ferguson, Dyer, Shearer, Shearer)
Spurs 1 (Ginola)
that's a bit more of a comparision isn't it ? since not so long ago.
who's the fool ? :D :D
hitmanuk2k 25-10-2001, 07:34:AM 7-1 makes them seem taht little bit more worse though dont it
mhflierman 25-10-2001, 08:45:AM hehehe. But hey about Spurs. They have amazed me, as a dutch fan of the premiership and ManUtd I must say that Spurs have been doing very well. Hoddle is a very good coach, as long as he sticks to football and doesn't talk aboout other things in life. But the person that really amazed me is Darren Anderton, I knew he was a great player but unfortunately he had a lot of injuries. I also feel quite sorry for fellow dutchmen Willem Korsten who could have had a promising carreer if not ended by that injury.
simonius 25-10-2001, 04:10:PM I'm glad I decided to visit these forums.
I was always arguing with people how Spurs are better than Newcastle. Everyone seemed convinced and wouldn't shut up about Alan Shearer. I think that has silenced them.
Solid goalie. Solid centrebacks. Solid wingbacks who bang the ball in and someone heads it in. Or they just score goals like Ziege and to think Carr is injured! Veteran midfield with Dazza, Gus Poyet, Freund, Sherwood blended with youngsters Davies and Clemence. Old man attack with Sheri and Sir Les with some Ukranian on the bench.
Watch us lose to Boro this weekend :(
andylau 25-10-2001, 09:06:PM What do you mean, simonius?!
After praising the whole team, you say we'll lose...
ShearerM4 26-10-2001, 04:47:AM actually I think Spurs and Newcastle are the same ....
they're midtable teams who can play excellent one week and then, crap the next ....
Also Spurs are at full strength at the moment .. the Toon aren't.
Spurs and NEwcastle have been walking along the same raod for the last few seasons
hitmanuk2k 26-10-2001, 06:23:AM newcastle and spurs are both teams which people expect to do well but recently havent match the expectations with good league finishs. since keegan left its been down hill for us (newcastle)....gullit and daglish wrecked the team and robson is starting to rebuild.
my major concern at the moment is that why do we get beat off the likes of west ham and spurs (no disrecpect) and yet beat man utd.
FIFAfreak 26-10-2001, 12:17:PM Yes Spurs and Newcastle have been middle of the table teams for years... I don't expect that to change overnight... BUT with Hoddle at the helm I think we have a chance at finishing a little higher this year... maybe even squeaking out a UEFA spot as it looks like the race at the top is going to be tight this year. I would also like to see Spurs do well in the Worthington and FA cups which is another rout to Europe... it will be a good London derby with Fulham in the Worthington...
But yes Spurs have yet to reach a point of consistency where they don't blow games to teams they should beat... but hopefully they're on their way.
Oh yeah and Sol Campbell was and is ****... good riddance to him. It takes a real ARSE to leave Spurs for ARSEnal! Spurs are much better off without him. I guarantee he soon won't be happy there either where he'll have to actually compete for a postion in the starting lineup!
hitmanuk2k 26-10-2001, 10:50:PM i THINK im speaking for every newcastle fan here (sorry if im not!) but most newcastle fans are simply frustrated at the moment with our mid-table performances in the last few years. and the reason we are frustrated if because just 5 years ago we were one of the "big" boys challenging for the title. then daglish came in, i think the reason we did so badly with him was the fact that know one could understand a word he was saying in the dressing room. he got rid of a lot of our good players. i suppose he did do a couple of things for the club.
1 - persuaded the chariman to re-introduce reserve and junior football to newcastle (which im pleased to say we are one of the top teams in both the u17 and u19.....good news for the future).
2 - got us to the cup final.
then mr. gullit arrived, great everyone thought. mmmmm.....first game in charge a heavy home defeat of liverpool. then 2 years ago at the start of the season. one point out of 21!!!!!! i mean taht is worse than relegation form. then he got sacked.....again he did do a couple of good things....
1 - bought kieron dyer (cant wait till hes bak, about 6 weeks)
2 - got us to the cup final and then the semi-final.
and now i suppose bobby robson is trying his hardest to build up a team good enough to once again challange for the title. and i know there is 2 of our top players still out, but u have to ask if bobby is up to at his ripe old age of 67.
simonius 27-10-2001, 05:47:PM We were at full strength? For that match we were missing Carr, Doherty, Bunjevcevic and Armstrong, among others.
And now Taricco is out and Davies is gonna have to play wingback!
BEAT THE BORO!!!!!!!
Amika 27-10-2001, 07:44:PM i think spur will be a great team in the near future if hoddle can be their manager as he is a great manager and i respect him a lot...
andylau 29-10-2001, 08:17:PM It's certainly will be asking too much of Hoddle to bring the team from a mid-table side to a top-5 side in a season. So, I'm hoping that in a couple of years time, Spurs will be challenging for european places, via league standing, and be consistence in their performance. Although I'm quite happy with the performance now, but at the end of the day, good result must be produced too.
Sometimes results have to be grind out too. Just like the last match against Boro. It's certainly not an easy match, in my point of view, although Boro's standing are below us. (No disrespect the Boro). The players have to show their character and mental strength in this kind of situation.
I think with Hoddle's philosophy, Spurs certainly have a chance to make the grade in the near future.
P.S. I promised myself to go bald if Spurs win the League Title. I hope I don't have to wait till my hair drop off naturally. :D
