View Full Version : I finally got ISS PE2!!
Arjun 24-10-2001, 08:07:AM Well. . . . .
I finally got ISS PE2!!and have been playing since the last 2 hours. So far I think the game is okay.I've seen that the actions are really good and the speed is much slower, much realistic although the graphics suck.People have been true to say that it is tough to master.I mean so far I've played about 10 matches and out of that I've only won two.One was Eng vs Jamaica 1-0 in "Imternational Cup" and another one was in what I've heard so much about "Master League" Real vs West Ham 2-1.People say that ISS PE2 is a largely unscripted game but I don't think so.The passing is definetly scripted and sometimes the game is quite repeating.Whenever I am able to get a break I only find space towards the wings from where I find it very difficult to get a header in.It's quite realistic in some aspects though I still prefer Fifa2002 I don't know maybe after some time I'll start liking it better and I'll get used to it.Also the unlicensed players are irritating I mean who the hell is "Valey" in Valencia. The commentary sucks he only says player names rarely and every master league match I lose "they didn't want to start of their season with a loss".Idiot.Could someone give me some tips on the game as I am finding the game quite tough so far.
JonnyDp 24-10-2001, 08:20:AM Bear in mind it's just a PS One game - you can change the speed in the options too.
Imagine it on a PS2......
JonnyDp 24-10-2001, 08:22:AM Be patient with your build ups, use thru-balls wisely and don't be too rash in defence - back off slightly first.

Good point on the defence. You have to actually play defense like you would in real life at least I thought so anyway. You can't play defense like you do in FIFA.
Arjun 24-10-2001, 08:30:AM You have more tackles to choose from. The tackling is quite releastic although the slide tackle is very limited.I like the way you can come in front of a player and charge him down and also the way you can block the player with your arms when he is trying to cross.I'm already starting to like the game quite a bit.:)
How will PES be better on the PS2?What are its features? Will it have licensed players??
The FIFA RTWC Webmaster 24-10-2001, 08:32:AM In defence, try holding down the sprint and the pass button at the same time... It will help you win the ball...
grashed 24-10-2001, 08:34:AM You say you have played ISSPE2, well I don't belive you personally, its probably ISS2000.
If you have really got the game, obviously you WOULD not like the game at first, because you are no good at it.
I felt exactly the same way you feel when I first bought the game, but once I mastered the game it was like a dream.
long passes are not scripted, nothing is scripted in this game, just that you are no good at the game. If you was too watch me play this game, then you will know what I mean by mastering the game.
Give it a couple of weeks, and when you start wining on the hard level then you would hink ou would be dreaming.
cymonguk 24-10-2001, 08:35:AM NO really practise, dont play any games, spend half an hour practising shooting and passing, practise cutting across the box and shooting, practise shooting from outside the box. Practise passing the ball around midfield and then changing pace and chipping the ball into space (in the game knock the ball around in front of their defence until you see a gap, then use your speed).
Dont try running at defenses it doesn't work! Unless you use someone like Van Nistelrooy, etc.
In the game dont tackle to early, wait till your pretty close, and then tackle. Dont always rush the tackle like you do in FIFA, if you miss the player in ISS you cant get up quickly enough to make another challenge.
cymonguk 24-10-2001, 08:40:AM PES will have the real players from Europe apparently woohoo, also the skill attribs will be based on CM2 info!
Oh and also try to work out how the opposition play, and the strenghs of your team. i.e. Brazil will try and pass it through you (sit back and expect to have to wait to get the ball back), Norway will try and hit it over you and play with fast strikers.

NO,this time I have definitely got ISS PE2.I know you're bugged about my mix up earlier. But now I am 100%.

I take it you know nothing about The future release of PES?
first of all it will have he best graphics of any football game, I don't mean shiny dollys like in fifa, but it will be the closest to what you see on TV.
The gemeplay will have more features, more skill moves, more options for passing, and lots of other things.
PES is combinig with Championship manager to make his game, they will use their player database, so they will have all he correct attributes for each player.
PES will have a fifapro license that should cover most of the european names.

No I don't I just know it is being released in November side by side Fifa.
cymonguk 24-10-2001, 08:47:AM practise pays in ISS unlike FIFA (Im not sure why it is).
One last thing :) When you practise shooting, just tap the button gently, unless youre outside the box it will usually be enough.

I know the shooting bar is tooo sensitive.

European players definitely!
Teams act differently yes. Apparently they are making this even more individual for PES (based on Championship Mgr db), with individual players acting like their real life counterparts (Carlos will be an attacking flair player, Stam will be strong and hang back) :):p
ZePenguin 24-10-2001, 08:53:AM Could someone be enough kind to offer me a ps2 ?

PS2
cymonguk 24-10-2001, 08:59:AM Has been some mention of tactical changes but no confirmation, i.e if the CPU is up 2-0 with 10 mins to go it will go 5-4-1, but not sure about this....

No problem. Pick one up for me while your there and make sure I can use it in the US. Thanks.
the_man 24-10-2001, 09:08:AM Arjun, we can give you all the tips in the world, they will lead you in the right direction but practice practice practice is the name of the game. The more you play the better you get. I will suggest that you go into training and get use to the shooting bar, lob passes, 1-2's, fake shots and so on. Then just play some more. It is going to take a while...wait until you move to the higher difficulty levels.
Perth Glory 24-10-2001, 09:15:AM A good selection of screens can be found here

Conspiracy. They don't like anything that promote ISS. Ah well, it is FIFAgaming after all. BTW, what happened to that thread. Must have been deleted.
theCRO 24-10-2001, 11:20:AM yeah come to think of it. I slapped the admin. for saying that soccergaming was FIFA and not ISS, and they delete the flipping thread, talk about totalitarianism.
ZePenguin 24-10-2001, 02:51:PM maybe that's because they think if their forums are promoting iss, they won't have their name on fifa 2003 official site like this year? i dunno...
Arjun 24-10-2001, 06:01:PM WTF have they moved this thread? That's really stupid.
This is a very ****in frustrating game but it is very addictive.I've been playing continuous for the last hours.I like the way a defender would clear a ball into touch in ISS when on pressure.
:)
theCRO 24-10-2001, 06:42:PM You'll find yourself doing the same thing Arjun, smacking it upfield when the other team has momentum and are on the attack. Another of the hundreds of things that make this game the best.
keep at it man, it's worth it, especially if you've got buddies that play it, you cant beat a tournament to relive the stress built up inside you.
cymonguk 24-10-2001, 09:55:PM I love the way ISS CPU builds up pressure like in real life, when you clear from a corner with a header it comes stright back at you, you soon learn not to play like you do in FIFA arjun.
Keep playing Arjun, in two weeks time you'll have been converted to the "dark side" :). Youll be going on FIFA forums telling people not to buy FIFA 2002 LOL.
:monkey:
Arjun 24-10-2001, 11:11:PM I'm loving ISS man I just can't stop playing it even though I've lost the last 15 matches continous. It's cool. It's just not like same old same goal same play same cross same pass same Fifa.:) :D
But it is ****in frustrating. In the last match somehow I didn't concede a goal till the 65th min and somehow scored of a header.I was practically jumping to the ceiling after that and immediatly switched to 5-4-1 after past experiences. But then what happened the comp scores two goals in the dying mins. One in the 86th min and one in the 89th and I came so damn close to equalizing in injury time.If this had happened in Fifa I wouldn't have cared a ****.I would have probably just won my next 20 games in a row 5-0.
cymonguk 25-10-2001, 12:24:AM I was practically jumping to the ceiling after that
We know... This is why playing ISS is so bloody addictive, when you score a goal you know you did it.
One question for you :). When you miss a shot from 12 yards do you think?
1) Crappy, ****ty game, theres no way I should have missed
2) If only Id not pressed the button so hard, or if Id waited a second longer, or I should have pulled it back to the midfielder on the edge of the box.... etc...
with FIFA it was always 1) with ISS its usually 2) for me....
This is what makes ISS fun... (see how the definition of fun can get skewed...).
Also have you scored from out side the box? When you do you and its in the last 10 minutes (mine was Scholes, Man U 1 Real Madrid 0), then you will hit the roof, punching the air putting two fingers up at the computer "stick that up your arse Casillas". I couldn't believe how much ISS drives passion for football into you again...
Another tip, in real football you would use acceleration to get space for passing and shooting, do the same in ISS. When you are outside the box run normally then cut into the box using speed to get a little space and tap the button to shoot, the speed burst opens you up away from the defender, and gives you space to crack it in.
cymonguk 25-10-2001, 12:30:AM In Winning Eleven, you can choose to position your players (anyone know in PE2), when you are playing defensive you can make your team even more defensive than the standard 541, also I assume you moved players, and subsitutes? If you just go to 541 with a striker in midfield, the striker is not that effective, if you play 442, but move one striker right to the front of his box, the other as far back as he will go and squeeze the opposition down the middle (push your midfield wider and deep, push defenders narrow and deep, your midfield then "funnels" the opposition into the defence. (It works for me...)
theCRO 25-10-2001, 02:12:AM keep at it Arjun, in no time you'll be winning. What level do you play on?
Arjun 25-10-2001, 04:55:AM I just tried playing Fifa2002 after a long long fun frustrating gaming experience in ISS PE2 and I found out what an idiot I've been to be following the ****in claims of that damn company EA.Another thing ISS PE2 is definitely slower gameplay than Fifa2002.But it is very balanced and realistic.Fifa2002 sucks I mean this is how it goes the player animations and player movements seem to be quite slow and dodgy while the ball still travels like a rocket when you pass on the ground.Another thing it floats when you make a cross.I mean what the ****s is EA getting at?Those idiots think that gamers are just interested in graphics, sound, etc.while they don't seem to get the picture that we still hate the stupid gameplay.Konami sound and graphics are crap but I don't care. The game is soo cool!!
I am going to keep at it for a very long time.I'm just regretting that I started so late.:( :o :D

Hallelujah! The conversion is complete spoke like a true FIFA hater, ISS lover, now for your final conversion you must fight the mighty minions of FIFA! Go forth and tell them how good ISS is, and take the abuse like a man.....
cymonguk 25-10-2001, 06:49:AM A question really aimed at Arjun, but for anyone new to ISS, do you understand why people who like ISS get frustrated about EA, and why we get frustrated on the FIFA 2002 forum?
I think me (and other people here ) had a few arguments with Arjun about FIFA before you got PE2, can you see why we were so dogmatic about ISS?
Neutral LFC 25-10-2001, 09:20:AM Arjun,
Glad to see you are enjoying ISS, there's a ton of good tips in Han's thread too that you should check out.

grashed 25-10-2001, 11:39:AM just keep going Arjun, there are so many things that you will experience in this game.
Even when you have completely mastered the game on hard, it dosen't mean you will win all matches. Beleive this game never Ends.............
Arjun, do you understand why I get fustrated when people say ISS is crap because they have played ISS2000?
You see the difference now?

I suggest you rent it or buy it. Its definitely worth it...

Arjun 28-10-2001, 02:50:AM Somebody please give me some tips.Damn I am sucking at this game.I can seem to restict the oppo to score only 1 or 2 goals but I just can't score.I try everything from crosses from the wings which I rarely get a header also I can't seem to get good through balls which the comp easily cuts out.
Help me!!!
  ;) :(
nwankwo 28-10-2001, 03:13:AM Don't worry Arjun, I've experienced the same frustrations. They will disappear. Have you tried the 1-2 pass yet? Hit pass and player-selection key at the same time. If timed properly it can be devastating to the computers defence. Play the game on amateur a little while, to get used to the controls. Be patient, pass back, looking for space. ONLY USE THE THROUGHPASS WHEN YOU"RE PRETTY SURE THERE IS SPACE FOR IT AND YOUR PLAYER IS FAST ENOUGH TO GET AT THE END OF IT IN TIME. Just keep crossing the ball high into the box. It takes time to master this game, and even then you're never sure to beat the computer.
Good luck
SatanJones 28-10-2001, 05:31:AM Don't worry .
My story: I played WC on Normal for the first week. About 20 world cups.
Only made it past group round ONCE! and then I lose 3-0 to Nigeria.
Then, next time I play, I get to the semis (scoring got easy) and lose a game I should have won if i played a little better. It all comes all of a sudden, you will be amazed how easy possession becomes out of nowehere...keep it up
Arjun 28-10-2001, 05:58:AM Awesome. This game rocks!!!I finally made it through to the round of 16 in the world cup.My matches were absolutely breathtaking.
In the first game me with Brazil was playing against China.Uptil the 40th minute both of us created reasonable chances to score.
After that I started applying some pressure on some attacks. In one of the attacks I attacked from the wings only for the ball to be headed by a chinese defender.Luckily the ball came straight to Carlos with who I took a shot which got deflected damn!!! but went straight to Cafu around the corner of the box I took another shot the ball swerwed and. . . . went in!I almost fainted. The first goal I had ever scored from outside the box!It was so beautiful. After that I somehow held on to win.
The second was against USA in which both teams got close to scoring but it ended up 0-0.
The third one was against England. Before the match I had already written of my chances of winning throughout the first half they dominated with ease and hit the crossbar twice. In the second half I switched to a more attacking formation since I had nothing to lose. Then I had some attacks but England were getting a lot closer. Then in the 78th minute I finally got another attack.Carlos crosses from the wings Elber in space!!Header!!Goal!!!I couldn't believe it I was just 10 minutes away from qualyfying. Then England applied immense pressure. This resulted in 3 brilliant saves by Dida which which I thought were certainly going to be goals the moment they targeted. Then the final whistle blew somehow I won and qualified.I couldn't believe it.
the_man 28-10-2001, 06:30:AM It makes me smile with a lot of joy that you guys are enjoying these games. :) As I've always said, those who say that there are not enough teams and so on and so on, underestimate the power of gameplay. Once you've played a few games and you start winning some, losing some, and drawing some, then you forget about the number of teams and other features like that.

Its the kind of passion you see in Arjuns post that converts you from ISS to FIFAs gameplay. Its when you realise that you are screaming at the screen, using words like "stick that up your ass"... you know its a different game.
I remember my first win Man Utd versus Real Madrid, 79th Minute and I lay the ball back to Scholes outside the area, who wallops it curving it away, the ball rockets off the bar into the goal. I nearly wet myself... :) still brings back a smile.
