I've noticed a lot of references to free kicks and specifically how to score from them. This was something that annoyed me until I spent half an hour on practise just doing edge of the area free kicks yesterday.
What I realised was that if you press the shoot button, you're unlikely to clear the wall and get the ball in the goal. So, I thought of David Beckham - he chips the ball and just curls it into the net.
Using this idea, I tried using the chip button and it was surprisingly successful - I scored almost every time by aiming slightly inside the post, holding the up arrow (this is vital, as it keeps the chip low rather than flying over the bar) and filling the power meter just a small amount. The ball floats over the wall and into the corner.. but only if you get it just right, as in real football. When shooting from a few yards outside the box this worked almost every time. Further out, it is difficult but still possible.
And another thing, when you do practise do it with the vertical camera angle - you can see where the ball's going, and if you are swerving it see how much and what you need to do to score.
So, if you want to score freekicks the first thing is to practise them in the practice mode - and give the chip button a go, it really does work.
