Hello,

I'm still in the proces of deciding what to do: just get another fifa (which might be the best edition yet, but can it live up against ISS?) or make the jump to PES, via the ps2. Before I can choose I have some questions for the playstation owners:

- What is the releasedate of PES? I can't find it anywhere on the net
- Can you attach your PS2 to a pc-monitor? Or is it restricted to a tv?
- What is the quality of dvd-playback the playstation offers? I mean, if I am gonna spent the money it might be nice if I could use the machine for more than one purpose.
- Same sort of questions: how's cd-audio playback?
- Will there be any way to edit teamnames or shirts in PES (I fear there won't be)
- IS there ANY hope for a ps2-emulator in the nearby future?

Thanks in advance

Well, I'd suggest not to get Fifa, but that's my opinion. Try before you buy.

- What is the releasedate of PES? I can't find it anywhere on the net

Nov 9th, so far for europe, a few weeks later for other PAL countires

- Can you attach your PS2 to a pc-monitor? Or is it restricted to a tv?

You need a speical hook up thingy

- What is the quality of dvd-playback the playstation offers? I mean, if I am gonna spent the money it might be nice if I could use the machine for more than one purpose.

It's quite good IMO

- Same sort of questions: how's cd-audio playback?

Again, I think it's topnotch

- Will there be any way to edit teamnames or shirts in PES (I fear there won't be)

Players names yes. Teamnames/shirt I don't think so

- IS there ANY hope for a ps2-emulator in the nearby future?

I read somewhere that someone had 'craked' the PS2 chip system thing, so maybe.

I always played FIFA on PC and PS1.

I bought a PS2 ONLY to play FIFA. I got FIFA 2001 and waited for FIFA 2002. FIFA 2001 sucked so badly, I went and bought ISS PE2.

Now, I'm converting ALL of my FIFA mates to play ISS PE2, even though its a PS1 game, and the graphics are poor (compared to FIFA 2001 on PS2) but it's a more enjoyable game.

When FIFA 2002 and ISS PES come out it will be a straight choice;

do you want candy coated fun arcade game, or do you want a football sim.

As for a PS2, of course you're going to get one.

It has velocity-sensitive buttons, superior graphics, DVD, up to 8 players etc etc

I'm sorry for giving you incorrect information.

The thing I thought I read wasn't an emulator, but rather a chip for the PS2 itself.

- What is the releasedate of PES? I can't find it anywhere on the net

In UK it's 16th November (as per Konami site) and 23rd November (As per pre order on gameplay.com)

- Can you attach your PS2 to a pc-monitor? Or is it restricted to a tv?

You can, but it's best on a TV, a big TV, a big widescreen TV.

- What is the quality of dvd-playback the playstation offers? I mean, if I am gonna spent the money it might be nice if I could use the machine for more than one purpose.

It's excellent you're not going to get a DVD player that's as good as the PS2 for it's current price. The picture quality is good but where it really impresses is the sound quality. They've also released a new driver with the official remote.

- Same sort of questions: how's cd-audio playback?

Quality is excellent, but I've only listened to it to try it out. I have a high end CD player any way.

- Will there be any way to edit teamnames or shirts in PES (I fear there won't be)

Teams yes but Shirts no.

In all honesty, that shouldn't stop you!!!!

Where are you from anyway?

Thanks all for your kind and informative replies. I know, Johnny, that the lack of a do-it-all-editor shouldn't stop me buying a ps2 and PES. It's seems such a small detail. It's only that for many years I enjoyed playing with fantasy leaugues, consisting of fantasy teams and players (friends and relatives). I find it highly enjoyable to create my own shirts and really see the teams play in their shirts later. It would be so great for me if there was a game as realistic and playable as PES, AND as editor-friendly as FIFA. If there was, and it was only on ps2, I would have bought a PS2 yesterday. Now it's just a question of where my priorities are for the nearby future. And maybe, later on, Konami will decide to make there game freely editable. I would praise the day!

And well, 16 november just happens to be my birthday!

I'm from Holland, John, so you see, I'm looking for a nice game to play between the date that Ajax wins the UEFA-cup (sometime in may) and the day the dutch competition 2002-2003 starts. I have heard that there is also some sort of soccer tournament this summer, far and far away, but for some reason no dutch players will attend....

Editors have been released for ISS PE to change shirts and teams from an ISO on PC hard drive. New image can then be burnt to cd and played on PSX...we can hope same will happen for PES.

About a PS2 emulator - I was hoping the same thing myself but doesnt look like its going to happen any time soon, basically the architecture of PC and PS2 are fundamentally different - PS2 uses small cache and large bandwidth while PC is large cache and small bandwidth..also it has taken approx 6years to get an emulator to the level EPSXE is now.

I was hoping this years fifa would be enough to keep me occupied but I think fifa is still years behind PES

Hey guys, I find myself in the same position as Nwankwo, deciding wether its worth buying a PS2, altho my minds pretty much made up (i'm going for the PS2-... "game on").

One of his questions was
'Can you attach your PS2 to a pc-monitor? Or is it restricted to a tv?'
You guys say there is somekind of cable that allows you to do that, which I would find very helpful. Could you help me out and tell me what its called so I know what the name is of the thing i'm looking for???

Thanks in advanced :)

You could get a PS2 just for PES...

But you can also get an x-box when it comes out becasue konami is making a World Cup 2001 game for it which looks absolutely amazing. THe x-box has much more graphical power and speed/memory than ps2.

So if you wouldn't mond waiting just a bit, you might get an even better game.

ANyways, does anyone have some info on konami's x-box soccer/football??

Oh hell no. Please ignore what this guy is saying. The game coming out on the xbox is the KCEO game from konami. Anyone that has played both games or has paid attention in this forum would know to stay away from KCEO games.

to think that x-boxi is gonna be superior is bit naiv ;)
I will give u a example get a n64 emulator and run a room of one of the newer games such as perfect dark "on the mighty microsoft windows" :p .
U will almost need a p3 simply my point is N64 is running on hmmm...what is it? pentium 100 or something and still u need a such strong computer.
My point is that dont trust specs ;) they are not trustworthy CERTAINLY NOT WHEN SOMETHING MADE FROM BUGGY MICROSOFT well thats my point :).
Am not saying that PS2 is a stronger then X-box defiently not! but just wait and see cuse trusting specs isnt smart.

And u migth answer that seeing DOA 3 is enough to understund the power of X-box compared to GC and ps2 ...my reply is checkout GT3,rouge squadron, Jak and Dexter, ..or something?..

Simply i once again I say am defiently not saying ps2 is powerful as X-box or even near as powerful...all am saying is dont trust specs specially not when the product is made by Microsoft who knows not near as much about consoles as Sony, nintendo

thats all :)

and Xbox dont got GT3, PES, "full game MGS2"and FF 10

yes, anything without the word "evolution" is KCEO, and therefore sux.

KCET is the king of football(Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo)

PS has KCET sogned on, KCEO is the little kiddies version of these games, with less emphasys on gameplay.

ok, everyone can relax a bit now....,

anyways i did not say the xbox game was going to look better from the specs of the system but it will look a lot better from what ive seen from a video clip.
ie. players will actuallt have flowing hair!

ANother thing *Bulldig*, the reason you need a fast cpu for an emulater suck as the n64 one because the pc has to run two things at once basically by converting the game code to a version that windows can read. So this example has nothing to do with the gfx power of the x-box

Let's not kid ourselves, the ps2 graphic-power are really not as great as it could have been. From the vids ive seen of the xbox and knowing it has the best possible vid card you can get(mod. gf3), the xbox is a more powerful system.

THis world soccer game for xbox is a japanese version and maybe someone else will do a euro/N.A. version much like theyre doing with PES.

They're all Japanese at first, it's just the studio that does it. KCEO isn't very good, still prefer it over FIFA though, but KCET is the name to look for. As of yet, KCET isn't planning anything for the xbox.

KCET has always made games for PSX and PS2. It will not change in the near future.

it was a stupid example from me didnt know better;)

Microsoft is new to consoles who knows how good there console is u cant judge a console by the specs it works in a another way than a pc.
....
Dont get me wrong am sure X-box will be stronger but i dont really care really as long as KCET sticks with sony :)
