I need some advice. I really thought I was going to go ahead a get FIFA 2002 for the PC but I've owned ISS pe for ps one and it kicks the dog crap out of FIFA 2001. I thought the gameplay would be much improved for FIFA 2002 but the more I read in forums from people that have already purchased the game and the more I play that silly demo, the more convinced I am that getting FIFA 2002 would just be a bad idea. All you guys in Europe consider yourselves lucky to be able to get ISS 2. I'm considering either: A. Getting MLS Extratime for ps2, which is based on the ISS engine or B. Getting a mod chip for my ps2 and getting ISS 2 from Europe. I would really rather go with B. It's either of these or I'm stuck getting FIFA 2002. I already pre-purchased it and I'm having serious second thoughts. I can still go get my money back and go with another option. If you guys have any advice, please give me your thoughts on my dilemma. And if you have a mod chip in your ps2, could you tell me more about it? All advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

You would be better off waiting for PES if you are going to chip your PS2 IMO

Havent played it yet but it appears there are a number of bugs, especially in the final version (not being able to play with wingers, etc).

OK firstly if you are going to get your PS2 chipped, get it done by somebody who is competent, dont try it yourself, the best way to get a competent person to do it, is too see if you know anybody who has had it done, and ask them who did it.

Of the two choices it depends on your outlook on life. If you dont want to risk ruining your PS2 go for A, else go for B and wait for PES to come out. I would say there is probably a 5% chance of knackering your PS2 at worst.

Man, no contest. Some may consider my views extremely biased toward Konami's beutiful sim, but hey, that's what 4 years of FIFA dissapointment does. I'm never buying another FIFA again, I'm not giving EA one more dollar, they've done us all in too many times.

PES is the way to go man, this game is gonna rock. FIFA 2002 will be your worst nightmare, I can almost gurantee that.

thanks for the advice guys. I got some good advice from a buddy in the soccer gaming forums and I've decided to go with the mod and get PES when it finally arrives. If you guys have any specific thoughts about mods to share with me, please feel free to give me advice. I'm totally clueless to this mod chip stuff. But I'm going to do it nonetheless and need to have all the info I can get my brain on.

I'm still waiting for the NEO 4 mod chip which should be out his week. The cost of this chip is 80$. I dont care I will do anything to play PES. If you dont want to spend 80$ you can go for the NEo 2.2 which goes for 10$ but you need a gameshark 1.9 (40$) to boot games. CHeck the web site for more details."Playstationmods.com"

Remember if you get your system chipped you will still have to make a back up of pes in order to boot the game and also you will ned to change the format from PAL to NTSC so the color displays correctly. Well good luck. I pre ordered my copy of PES from gameplay.com

good luck.

The NEO 4 features are:

Taken from "Playstationmods.com"

PSX Original Imports - NO SWAP
PSX Silvers - NO SWAP
PSX CDR Backups - NO SWAP
PS2 CD Silvers - NO SWAP
PS2 CDR Backups - NO SWAP OR PATCH*
PS2 DVDR Backups - SINGLE SWAP - NO PATCH**
PS2 DVD Silvers - SINGLE SWAP**
PS2 IMPORT ORIGINALS - (NO SWAP - In Development)

DVD Movie Features
MULTI REGION for DVD Movies on all models (No extra wires were used) (1.10, 1.20, 1.30 Tested for UK/EUR/AUS/USA Models - 1.00, 1.01, 2.00 and 2.01 JAP will follow shortly)***
MACROVISION Disabled
RGB Green Screen Fixed by correct code injection as opposed to a link wire
(I'd just like to confirm here that these functions have been added free of charge whereas the original idea was a cheap add-on. There have been extra wires added and the cost is exactly the same)

The mod is comprised of 3 microchips plus various SMC components on a professionally designed PCB giving the mod a neat wafer thin design which fits inside each and every model without compromising any future functions of the PS2.

The NEO4 is currently around 33 wires - this is so the mod will work with ALL models - we could easily have many less wires but then you would have many different mods for each model - not practical. The size of this mod has grown because of the fact that there are so many different models of PS2 and each one has to be patched differently and to achieve optimum performance and reliability it had to be designed in this way. The final number of wires will be announced when we have progressed to our first hardware prototype stage.

We are currently working on an ease of upgrade design for the NEO4 so if a better version was designed in the next few months you could easily swap the NEO4 with an upgraded version.

*EA Swap Games still require an "EA Patch" - These can be freely obtained from www.eapatcher.com

**The DVDR swap is with any original DVD game or demo (the TOC size has to be bigger than the DVDR). This is a simple swap and the original does NOT need to boot - the PS2 just reads the TOC after the NEO4 DVDR Function has been activated. It takes less than 10 seconds and all DVDR's have been tested working 100% with NO PATCHES NEEDED. We recommend DOA2 as the swap disc as the TOC is 4.5GB however we also use magazine coverdiscs with a TOC of 3.5GB and they boot all games with a smaller TOC perfectly. At last AR2/GS2/XFM/MM16 are no longer needed :)

***You cannot play PAL movies on an NTSC player but you can play NTSC movies on a PAL player. We have got PAL playing on NTSC but it skips frames every few seconds at the moment - we'll work more on this later.

There will be three different versions of NEO4 - PAL, NTSC-J & NTSC-U.

Thanks for the advice quique 101. With the help of a friend and a little research lately and read about the neo 4. I've decided thats the way I'm going to go. I'm just about desparate enough to pay the $80 and the installation fee in order to play PES. I'm not having a problem finding a place to buy the chip from, but I am having a problem finding a place that will install it. Anyone have any info??

No, and that's the big problem. The NEO4 sounds great and I'd love to get it, but there's no one I know who lives close to me that I'd trust to install a 33 wire chip. I mean holy cow, 33 wires! That's one hell of complicated chip to install, and unless you're a professional you could easily mess that up - and once you do mess it up it's game over because your warranty just got invalidated once you opened up your PS2.

Unless I can find someone who will install it here in Toronto I'm going with a simpler chip (there's a place near where I live that will install the Starchip) or get a USB mod like the_man has and get a friend to solder the few wires that are needed.
