View Full Version : PES is gonna be the greatest footie game ever!!
DaveC 01-11-2001, 03:19:AM Having just read the reviews of FIFA2002 + PES in this months PSM2 magazine I can safely say that Pro Evo soccer is gonna be the finest game to grace our little black box. I hae been watching the footage that comes on the DVD and FIFA is a joke. The ball never, and I mean NEVER touches the players feet. Its about 2 feet away from him...its utter garbage. And the players look pathetic, fifa 2001 looks better than the new version. OK so it sounds like I'm bashing FIFA?? Well sorry about that but I had to get it off my chest. It is so painstakingly obvious that PES is better I find it hard to imagine anyone trying to argue the point.
And my last point is this....the ball has GOT to be filled with hellium in FIFA2K2 it just stays in the air forever.
Pick up the mag and please tell me you agree....

I think people that would not admit that PES is much better than FIFA2K2, A; do not have access to the game, B; really are not soccer fans, or C; prefer arcade games to simulation. I mean, if you love the beautiful game and you want to play that kind of game on your console, then PES is your game.
As for the FIFA2K2 ball, there is not Helium in it...it just moves acording to different laws of physics. Physics in the 6th dimension. Player dribbling is the most rediculous I've ever come across, it makes you really appreciate the ball physics model in WE5/PES. I mean on a replay when I see a player delicately touch the ball with the instep of his boot just the control the ball further, I go "uuuhhhh!" In FIFA? when the ball is in the 2 foot radius of a player, it is in his control, all he needs to do is walk or run the ball will stay ahead of him. to this i go "eewwww!"
DaveC 01-11-2001, 05:48:AM the_Man I have to agree with you on all that you say. I wasn't trying to make an arguement with fifa fans, it really is down to preference I suppose.
I think I am right in saying you have WE5 so you are used to the next gen gfx but I simply can't wait to play PES. I have ISSPE2 and it continually amazes me with little things that normall y go un-noticed. My brother in law and I were playing a load of games last friday, he is new to the game so he is well impressed. Anyway we were playing as france in the world cup (playing on the same side) and we went 2-0 down to 2 very sloppy goals. We had most of the second half left so I changed formation and brought on Wiltord. He scored in the 75th minute to make it 2-1 then in the 89th minute he gets the ball 30 yards from goal and i just let rip with a shot and it flew in off the bar. It was so so amazing we were going mad and that was just for a draw. I have never experienced any game that can bring that kind of emotion.

the_man 01-11-2001, 06:02:AM Yeah I hear you bro. Dont' get me started on goal celebrations that I've had. I was playing Scotland (I've told this before) and they have a 5 man back (what the Heck!!), and i was holland (like I almost alway am). Anyway, breaking scotland down is like trying to Break into Fort Knox, with 7 players in their box, shots don't go thru, you can hardly pass around, and so on. When i eventually scored, I droped the controller and started running around the apartment. I would have started cart wheels if there was enough space. Just one of the great moments i've had with this game. The thing that really does envoke passion in this game is the difficulty of scoring a goal. I'm not talking about you shoot and shoot but superman goalie says not today. I'm talking about breaking the defence down to creat a shot, i'm talking about taking the shot but mis-hitting it, I'm talking about cross the ball missing a header completely, I'm talking about heading the ball, but just over the cross bar...you work for every goal you get. And you appreciate it even if it was an ugly goal mouth scramble.
As far as me use to next gen grafx, hey man, I'm looking forward to PES also. It's going to be much better than WE5. I told this to a friend who has ISSPE2. I said when I get PES, I'll be pleasantly suprised. When you guys (ISSPE2 players) get PES, the cardiac team would have to come and pay you guys a visit :p

I hear you brohter !
Izebreaker 01-11-2001, 03:28:PM Could you tell me what scores PSM2 ended up giving these two soccer games.
I would love to have this magazine myself, but it seems its not available for the first couple of weeks. (i live in Denmark)
Talking about close games, I was using my master league team the other day and was 2-0 down, then on the 87th minute I got a header from zidane.
Then after the opposition kick off, I got batistuta to sprint through and tackle the guy who received the pass, zidane came through to clean up, he did a little touch to the right, and sent the ball through for batistuta to shoot past the goalie.
2-2 after 89 minutes.
Then, the other team kicked off again. Batistuta was onto the player like a rocket. Zidane was there agian to clean up the ball, but this time had a defender running toward him. Just before the defernder reached him, zidane moved to the left, the defender flew straight by and had now left a whole open on the right hand side of the feild that batistuta was running into. A through ball by Zidane, a little roll over the ball with his left foot by Batistuta, and a powerful shot (when is it not??) from his right and the game was won.
3-2 after 90 mins.
The scorer sheet was like this
Dunno 15
dunno 56
Zidane 87
Batistuta 89
Batistuta 90
My best come from behind ever. And I've been playing this game for about 1.5 years.
DaveC 01-11-2001, 10:01:PM Izebreaker the scores from PSM2 mag are as follows....
FIFA 2002 got a poor 69%. Some of the reasoning were the poor player likenesses, dull gameplay, stupidly difficult AI and the new passing technique is hit and miss.
Pro Evolution Soccer got 95% - A few tweaks and the game would be perfect.
And incase you are interested.....
SSX Tricky got 95% - It kicks the Sh*t out of the original apparently.
Half Life got 90%
+ many many more reviews.

theCRO 01-11-2001, 11:05:PM got a link Dave? Or did you see it for real?
DaveC 01-11-2001, 11:18:PM No I actually have the mag at home...if I had it with me today I could have typed in a few paragraphs for you all to read. If ya lucky I may pop home and grab the mag later then do that...!! Only if ya lucky though.

Izebreaker 02-11-2001, 09:33:AM Just wanted to thank you davec. For bringing the cool info on Fifa2002 and PES which clearly indicate that we are soon to play the best football game ever made - its gonna be totally awesome.
Does anyone know the exact release date for PES in europe. Both 16/11-01 and 23/11-01 are mentioned various places. On Konamis website it says release on the 16/11, so hopefully this is correct.

I think I'll wait until I actually play a game before I decide which is best....magazine articles are hardly the definitive reasoning for deciding which is best...
Having said that, I have absolutely no doubt that PES will be superior to FIFA 2002. From what I can gather, PES is little more than a PS2 conversion of ISS Pro 2 on PSX, a fine game but not perfect.......but all of the fifa games are utter garbage.

[gasp] No no no!!!!!!! Somebody please clue cluo here on the magnificence that will be PES (I cant remember the link to the PES preview at ISSOnline).
[I'm 'supposed' to be studying....]
Is PES is little more than a PS2 conversion of ISS Pro 2 on PSX? No.
Is PES is little more than a conversion of WE5 and almost a direct conversion of J League WE5? Yes, from the info I have read so far.
It's going to be leaps and bounds better than ISS Pro evo2, and should be a heap better than WE5 too. More animation/players/stats etc plus tweaked gameplay for the faster pace of the european game should be enough to make it a must buy for ISS folk
