View Full Version : how do I get good graphics for iss on epsxe?
Bikkelback 05-11-2001, 09:08:AM I have a 3dcard, a geforce 2, and a pentium 900 with 128 mb ram, but I can't get good graphics on epsxe. I have mostly pete's plugins, but with the direct 3d one it can't find my videocard and with the opengl it works but extremely slow and the graphics are stiil equally bad. Anyone knows how I can get good graphics, if I can get those with another emulator please tell me, thanks
ZePenguin 05-11-2001, 09:22:AM fro me the opengl is way faster than the direct3d one, i got something like 120 fps by default :D
btw i have a duron 750, 128Mo RAM and a 32MB geforce2 mx
Bikkelback 05-11-2001, 11:17:AM speed isn't really the problem, that's goog, but I can't seem to get normal graphics. Could someon post a screenshot of iss on the pc so I can see how it should look like? Thanks for replying
ZePenguin 05-11-2001, 11:27:AM Well mine is like that :

You might need to update your video card drivers to the latest from nVidia (www.nvidia.com)
I like to run epsxe in a window, at 1024x600 resolution. Note that's not the standard 1024x768 res. The reason I made the height 600 is to get a widescreen effect. I also reckon the players look better in this resolution as they are not so tall and skinny.
Bikkelback 05-11-2001, 07:38:PM I did update my drivers, that was the first I thought, and I downloaded some more plugins, but now when I trie to config video or sound it says "thunk connection failed 32-16" Anyone knows what that means? The plugins can find my card now, but maybe it isn't working because of this message? Please help me, thanks
Bikkelback 05-11-2001, 07:39:PM Btw I wish my screens would look like that, I'll take a snapshot too, if I know how then you'll see how bad my screens look
ZePenguin 06-11-2001, 03:24:AM btw is use it @ 1152x864

WTF! How dida you get such awesome graphics? My graphics suck in comparison.I use OpenGL (Pete). How do you change the reso in the game?
cymonguk 06-11-2001, 05:30:AM I get very similair graphics to Ze, Im using a GeForce2 GTS, and Direct x6 driver in epsxe.
ZePenguin 06-11-2001, 05:37:AM Well for those who don't really like to search what are the best settings, here are mine (with a duron 750, 128 Mb and GeForce 2 MX 32mb i got over 100 fps).
I'm using pete's opengl 1.50 plugin.
(if you can tell me how i could improve my image quality by changing something, don't be shy to tell me :D ).
Here are my settings with this plugin :

well it's very similar indeed :)
Wow! That picture is almost better than on my TV-screen with the real PS2, even with an Euro-AV connector!
ZePenguin 06-11-2001, 07:20:AM ...and my picture is taken in 800x600 but i play on a higher resolution
Bikkelback 06-11-2001, 11:26:AM does anyone know what "thunk connecting failed" means? Please, I want such graphics too.
cymonguk 06-11-2001, 08:39:PM What I will do later today is post my list of drivers, and specs, etc. Fairly simply:
Geforce 2 GTS
DirectX 8a
Win 2k Service Pack 2 (SP2 definitely worth doing)
Question what do most people think is a good frame rate to play at? I can get mine to run at any speed pretty much but i have to slow it down to play it properly.. currently at 52 fps (seems playable to me..) any suggestions?
Bikkelback 07-11-2001, 02:54:AM I finally got the graphics to be ok (for me at least), but now the framerate is superhigh and it slows down sometimes when there are a lot of players on the screen or something, anyone knows what I can do about that, I thought I read the same problem somewher else, but I don't know where. Also I'm using Aldipsx now, cause epsxe keeps saying tunk connecting failed and I cant get 3d graphics with it. ges it just sucks for me.
ZePenguin 07-11-2001, 05:26:AM well i can't help you with that emulator, but search for a 'fps limiter' in your video settings

Well i think it's very playable until 30fps, and until 100 fps, it hurts my eyes :)
