In my Fifa 2000 CD's box, they say that the game includes more than 40 of the best national teams from all around the world. So, I decided to check out the official ranking from Fifa (in FIFA's official site) and compare. Some people disagree with the criteria that Fifa uses in its official ranking. I don't know. All I know is that the game shouldn't have the name Fifa for no reason at all.

I checked the Fifa ranking from October, which was more or less when the game was first released. Among the "top 40" were these teams:

nr 2 Czech Republic
nr 13 Portugal
nr 19 Russia
nr 21 Slovakia
nr 23 Ukraine
nr 34 Zambia (what about that?)
nr 35 R. of Ireland
nr 37 Turkey (they put their league, but ignore their national team. Makes sense?)

These are teams from the top 40 international Fifa ranking. If EA wanted to include teams like Singapore (nr 101) or Lebanon (nr 108) (no offense), what happened to those eight teams?
Vanished into a cosmic black hole?

What about other national teams that contributed a lot to international football in the past, like Uruguay and Hungary? What about some more teams from all around the world, like Colombia, Equador, Switzerland, or Egypt (I think they're the current African champions)?

I mean, according to the ranking, even Trinidad & Tobago (placed 41st) and Burkina Faso (73rd), had more reasons to be in the game than Singapore, Lebanon, New Zealand (99th), or even Canada (82nd)! By the way, was it my mistake, or isn't Taiwan even mentioned in the ranking list? (Again please don't feel offended. It's Fifa's ranking.)

I think nobody minds at all on having these teams in the game. The more teams they include, more people will enjoy the game better! But excluding other teams, such as the ones FIFA itself considers far better? What had those EA boys on their minds? What happened?

I'm not even mentioning the leagues, or the "rest of the world" teams. (Has somebody managed to find out exactly where they are from?)

Why do you think EA did this?

Don't you think EA should release a patch to correct this situation?

If I forgot anything, or said something wrong, please say!

thank you

Regardless of EA or the FIFA rankings, as long as not all International teams are in it, which is something like 190 isn't it, not everybody will be satisfied.

Like NZ would be good, since they played in the Confederations Cup and are a Oceania team is included, but then Portugal misses out.
If it were the other way around NZ fans would be upset, probably saying 'but we were in the confederations cup, so why aren't we in it?', all national teams have to be in it I guess.

Being a New Zealander I was thrilled we got into the Fifa 2000 game, obviously we got there because of the confederations cup appearance. Our ranking however is hopeless However I was bummed that teams such as Portugal etc didnt make the game. All of the international teams you mentioned should have been there . I would have preferred to have all the international teams there and skip having the classic teams.
I have been playing Sony's This is Football for the last couple of days. It has all international teams and I think about 13 different leagues from around the world. PSX only as far as I can tell, check it out

This is Football how do they do the rosters do they put in fake names that sound like real names or what? Also how would you rate this game as far as realism?

Polish Power,
Its got all real names no fakes.
As far as realism goes that will come down largely to personal opinion, for example Wembley is pretty accurate as a stadium and when a game starts and the camera sweeps a stadium it looks pretty good, for the PSX I would guess almost as good as they can do it. The graphics on the players are to me not as good as Fifa 2000's and there are little animations that look stupid. ie: the goalie when he takes a step back before kicking looks simply stupid. On the positive side the game feels really good to play, there are dozens of moves to pull off and the ball physics are pretty good. Some will hate this game, some will love it.
I like the way FIFA 2000 looks on the playstation and I like how it plays on professional level but that level is too easy for me and world class isnt enjoyable because it become ping pong. This is Football is better on the realism side as far as difficulty and variations of quality between teams. For example on the PSX Fifa 2000 I can beat Italy using New Zealand 5-1. In This is football a typical score between NZ and Italy is 3-1 or 4-1 which is closer to reality.
Hire it first before playing it

Sorry,
In This is football the games between NZ and Italy end up in Italy's favour

From what you say I think I will go out and buy it, I have few more questions:

Is this game available in the United States? I haven't seen it anywhere in the stores here.

Also what leagues does it include and are the fixtures realistic, I mean for England do you have games on Saturday, Sunday, and one game Monday ?

I dont really mind if the graphics are great, for realistic I mean things like
injuries, suspension, transfers, team management options, etc. does the game have a manage only mode, also can you watch cpu controlled games like in EA's fifa series.
