View Full Version : UEFA Cup Batistuta 23-03-2000, 03:48:PM How many UEFA Cup places are available for Italian teams? Paolo_Rossi 23-03-2000, 05:02:PM What do u mean? Batistuta 24-03-2000, 06:04:AM How many teams qualify for the UEFA Cup from Italy. (there are 4 for the CL) Paolo_Rossi 24-03-2000, 06:14:AM Normally, there may be 2,but it can be more depending on the inter-toto and the teams that dont qualify in the first phase of the champions league, like Parma per example. PolishPower 24-03-2000, 06:29:AM Here it is: Top 2 teams automatic Champion league spots, 3 and 4 place teams qualifiers from 3rd round CH cup, if they lose qualifier they go into UEFA cup 5 and 6th place team go into UEFA cup, 1 domestic cup winner(starting with this year, the cup winner cannot be substituted by another team if they already qualified by finishing in UEFA spot, so for ex. Newcastle took England's UEFA cup spot as loser of FA Cup because Man U was already champ, well no more of that.) plus maximum of 2 teams qualifying by Intertoto cup.(from this year, each country can enter only 2 teams) plus a possible spot from Fair Play rankining, I think England for ex. got an extra spot from this ranking last year. Plus remember: Cup winners automatically defend their cup, even if they finish league in low position. So teams ranked 1-3(Italy, Germany, Spain) have minimum of 6 teams, but it is theoretically possible to have 12 teams in Europe! The Kid 24-03-2000, 06:39:AM In Portugal we only get one sure spot for champions League, the second placed team in the league must go to a playoff so they could enter the champions league Game Rod 24-03-2000, 06:59:AM Not anymore Kid. Next year the champion will have to play in the third qualifying round, while the second will go directly to the second round. UEFA's ranking... http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/mad.gif The Cup's winner and the 3rd to 5th places gave access to UEFA Cup, but I think the 5th place won't do it anymore. |
