I'm very happy that Mexico is in. I thought it was going to be close but it didn't seem like that with the 3-0 scoreline. I think Honduras' players got tired at the end due to the elevation. Either way Mexico is in. I hope they can beat Spain on Wednesday. That should be an interesting game.

phuck mexicans!!!! they didnt deserve it!! honduras really deserved to qualify to the world cup! goddamit...im sorry for all the honduras people..at least costa rica qualified..but,we wanted to have the 2 best concacaf teams on the WC,costa rica and honduras...

Mexico is the CONCACAF!! Mexico has represented the CONCACAF about ten times compared to Honduras only once. Thats why there is a qualifying round to weed out the weak teams and only have the best teams compete at the World Cup. I give Honduras credit for having a good qualifying round wish them luck next time.

It's so sad that people have to make up excuses for Honduras not being able to win in Mexico. For those of you Spanish speakers out there before the game, it is known in Latin America that Honduras trash talked quite a bit before the game. Mexico's players knew they were up against a tough opponent, but didn't back down nor allow themselves to be too confident.

I'm glad that we won, elevation or not, smog or not. We won at home, where we dominate the game, where we make our people proud. This is where football unites our nation, where we bring people together, and our fans are who put us through, because without their support Mexico would have never gotten there.

I am also very happy that Blanco returned, because out of the 9 most recent goals scored by Mexico in their games, he scored 5. Remember, Blanco was out for months before he came back to make his impact, and Mexico may have struggled, but once Aguirre came into power, our team strengthened up and began to show who they truly are. Blanco's return was in great timing, but our team is strong once again.

If you care to criticize after this post, and say that Honduras is the best team in Concacaf, then review the game that they played against Mexico. Only a desperate and sad team can turn to fouls and kicks against the players from the opposite team, and that is specifically what they did. An inflated ego is a terrible thing, and that is what Honduras developed.

I'm glad that Mexico went through the pounding and desperation that they did, and the terrible media criticism they experienced, because it strengthened them greatly. I prefer this over any kind of praise and celebration that they could have had if they had played otherwise. Nowadays, Mexico's players don't talk about how strong their team is, but how united and determined they are, and looking forward to the next game to produce equal or better results.

Mexico worked hard to reach their level again, and I am proud, and to all Mexicans out there: Sean orgullosos, porque nadie les quita el orgullo y la pasion. Sigan soportando a su equipo, porque ahora mas que nunca los necesitan. Viva Mexico !!! :0)

There's no excuse for poor play...every team has their bad days. The U.S. never announced they were playing a "B" side, and normally when teams play second sides they announce it formally, like some teams during Euro 2000, and Mexico did during last year's USA cup, when they sent Pumas instead of the national team.

The U.S. is a good team, there is no doubt, much respect for them, but you can't take away the good play that Trinidad & Tobago displayed at home. They are not a bad team, and they played spectacularly at the beginning of their qualifying campaign. Remember, they too went through trouble with injuries, and were missing players (Dwight Yorke, and the man that just died in a car accident), so you cannot say that they fielded the best side they could.

Also, if the U.S.A. fielded a "B" team, why do I find many first teamers in the lineup ?

United States: Zach Thornton, Steve Cherundolo, Greg Vanney, Jeff Agoos, Eddie Pope, John O’Brien, Jovan Kirovski, Earnie Stewart, DaMarcus Beasley (Cobi Jones, ’45) Landon Donovan (Josh Wolff ’66), Joe-Max Moore (Jesse Marsch ’82). Coach: Bruce Arena

Trinidad & Tobago: Shaka Hislop, Marvin Andrews, Brent Sancho (Addison Belfon ’73), Ansil Elcock (Nigel Daniel ’75), Anthony Rougier, Dale Saunders, Angus Eve, Arnold Dwarika, Stokely Mason, Stern John, Nigel Pierre (Errol McFarlane ’84). Coach: Rene Simoes

I understand, but it's funny. I team that weak our B team should still be able to win, even if it is only a "friendly-like" atmosphere.

It's not about deserving, it's about earning, fool !

Honduras tried hard, but they didn't make it, oh well !

Mexico worked hard to be where they are at, so live with it, and save your words for the World Cup, where we will truly see which team is pure quality, and can endure the challenges.

flyer884, I don't know why you are wasting your time defending the US. The only reason that TeKNoS can criticize the US is because his team made it thru. It is also because his team had to win/tie their last match that is why he is talking. They don't know what it is like to have already qualified and blow off your last game.

You obviously mis-read the intent of my comments. I was saying that you don't need to defend the credibility of the US team to people who can't see that the game against T&T was meaningless to the US. As I said it will be a waste of time cos all they can see is US tied 0-0 with T&T so US must not be that good ( but Mexico beat Honduras 3-0 so they must be great  ) . So re-read the post again and take the first comment in context with all the rest of the comments in the post.

You and I know this is one of the strongest US teams that will be going to the world cup because of the experienced players (the Reyna, Moore, Jones, Sterwart), the young stars ( Beaslies, Wolfs, Donnavan, O'brien ) and their Coach (who knows what he is doing and is fulltime national coach, no distractions). And just incase you hadn't picked it up, I'm a fan of the US also.

You keep talking trash about Mexico as if the national team hasn't won anything in the past, hasn't proven their strength and determination. I can't stand when people run their mouth without knowing one bit about the other team, simply attacking with assumptions and loose arguments that don't make sense and have no backing.

Mexico has not always been in the pits. For decades, Mexico was the dominant team in the Concacaf, and was strong and intimidating. As of late Mexico has had to realize that the teams around their national team have grown strong and have also become football powers.

Mexico went through a tough qualifying campaign this time around, going through 3 coaches, losing many players due to injury or otherwise, and testing different formations and first time players that didn't perform as they were expected. Mexico didn't have it easy, and I am proud of my team.

I don't always praise my team, and I am very quick to criticize their performance. Just because I am Mexican or a fan of the national team doesn't mean I'll make up excuses when my team plays poorly, or plays without valuing games when they could have done better.

Mexico knows what it's like to be at the top, and they know what it is to blow games off, and it's something that the fans don't like, and something they are criticized for. Since you obviously don't know anything, Mexico qualified for France 98 undefeated in the final round:

After having qualified for the world cup at the top of the final round group, Mexico tied Jamaica in their last game 0-0, even after they had won 6-0 previously at home in Mexico City. They were criticized for this and the public knew they did this purposefully, and didn't justify it in any way. Only the idiots like you, that like to make up excuses for their team, ran their mouth off about how great Mexico was because they did that.

So next time, read up fool, before you go off talking sh*t about the other team.

Okay, thank you for your "education" in mexican qualifiers of past...i'll pass on the lecture tho. I said you do not understand the fact that when you have qualified, you call Thorton, Beasley, Vanney, Donavan to play. They need the international experience if they want to go to the world cup. If you can't understand that, it is too bad. When Mexico played Jamaica, did they really care to win that game having already qualified? No, if they were in the situation they were with Honduras in '97 would they have tied with Jamaica...No. So, I don't know what you don't understand about, playing a qualifier that doesn't matter? Ofcourse the US plays bad, they didn't have Reyna, Llamosa, Regis, Keller or Freidel. Oh yeah and in that game, they bench their best Winger (Jones) until the 45 min to come on for an injured player, yeah shows they really wanted to win

Also you don't have to get personal, it distracts from the topic, I have nothing against you or Mexico, who do you think i was supporting in the '98 round of 16 match against Germany? Germany knows they were lucky go beat Mexico.

I don't know why people are so defensive these days. I guess all that Fifa tension is coming out or something.

I'm an ISS player, playing Evolution Pro right now in fact. I can't stand FIFA games and haven't played one since last March, and I even traded in FIFA99 for cash for ISS Pro Evolution :0)

I'm not too defensive, but I get pissed when people make up excuses for their team and forget about what efforts the other team had made. Trinidad & Tobago didn't qualify, but they played hard without their star players like Dwight Yorke, and they held their ground. I don't like it when people take that away from the smaller teams. They played hard and earned the draw, it wasn't "given" to them.

If you read my posts, this is what I mentioned first:

The U.S. is a good team, there is no doubt, much respect for them, but you can't take away the good play that Trinidad & Tobago displayed at home. They are not a bad team, and they played spectacularly at the beginning of their qualifying campaign. Remember, they too went through trouble with injuries, and were missing players (Dwight Yorke, and the man that just died in a car accident), so you cannot say that they fielded the best side they could.

I don't have anything against the U.S., I live here in their country, and I grew up here more than I did in Mexico. I like watching the U.S. national team because they have made great progress. I'm glad that they learned their mistakes from the past world cup qualifying campaigns and strengthened themselves up with domestic players instead of signing on foreigners, underestimating the talent they have at home. Now they are a strong team, and they earned their place at the cup much more effiiciently than other Concacaf teams did.

I don't care about the fact that it is the U.S., I care about the fact that people like to undermine the other team, making their team look like posh fools who don't care about the game that they play. Being on a team in high school with successful campaigns, I know how it is for a coach to tell us before a game not to try too hard since we were at the top of the table, but we still played hard anyway, and that's they way it should be.

True, youner players should be given a chance, and the stronger team may rest its good players, but let's not take away the accomplishments of the smaller teams. Remeber what happened to Brasil at the hands of Ecuador ? It was a result of Ecuador's determination and will to win. This has to be appreciated, and this is why I think people should give a little though to T&T before making the U.S. team look grand for slacking in their game.

K man, atleast we have something in common :p Anyway, no disrespect for T&T or any team. Infact, if you have seen some other posts that I've made, I was excited by the fact that we have some new faces in the WC next year...China, Slovenia, Poland, Turkey, Senegal...i'm glad that it's just not the usual suspects that are showing up to the world cup each time, diversity in the teams is great. I haven't seen Austrailia in the WC, altho I like Recoba and the gang, I would love to see a team from OFC make it to the WC and the only team that can represent them is Australia.
