Oh man...this is one place where FIFA 2000 seems to be worse than FIFA 99.

Can "anybody" score regularly from free-kicks? I am talking about DIRECT shots...not about floating in passes for headers.

In FIFA99, you could blast a free kick into the top corner from upto about 5 yards from the area. Hell, if you put the maximum curve on the ball and lowered the height considerably, you could regularly score an "in off the goal-keeper" goal directly from a free kick...and this was from upto 30-35 yards out from the goal.

Given a shot="7" player, does anybody know how to do it in FIFA 2000?

I've scored once from a free kick with a direct shot The only way I found to score from the freekick directly was by beating the keeper with the curl in the shot. The freekick interface in FIFA2k is rubbish.

Have you seen/played the Soccer sim Super Sidekicks 3 in particular ? the freekick interface for a direct shot is wonderful. You get the view from the freekick taker, you can see the wall in front of you and the keepers movements. You have a crosshair to move around the goals to pick your spot. The ball can be deflectd of the wall out for a corner or rebound. EA should seriously consider a freekick interface like that.

I know that this game isn't as good as Fifa but UEFA Champions League has a good free kick interface for direct shots. Score nearly all the time.

Hey SOS, did you curl the ball into or away from the goal keeper? Did you put it in the corner without the goal-keeper touching it, or did the ball go in off the keeper? If you can remember these things, please do let me know as I'd like to try this out a few times. Thanks.

I score direct goals from about 1/4 of my freekicks when I am less than 5-10 meters away from the penalty box (or whatever it's called in English). What I do is this:
I aim the freekick towards the lower part of the corner not occupied by the goalie, and put max. curvature on the shot bending it around the wall and towards the keeper. I then press the directional button pointing in the opposite direction of the curvature immediately after the shot is released. Bang! I hit the post or just outside the goal most of the time, but as I said 1/4 of the times I score spectacularly (on PSX). Oh! and make sure the guy who takes the shot has a great shooting ability.

It's easy, I score about 75% on World Class mode. How I do it is in the Tips database here, but basically:

Leave the aim alone, don't change it from what your kicker starts with. I sometimes adjust it one tick to the outside of the goal, and a tick or two up but not much. Put maximum curl *towards* the keeper and let it go with maximum power. It nearly always goes in.

I am scoring less now that I set all the keepers to 7-7-7, but it's still about 50%. As the game ships, it's about 90%.

Whoa guys...thanks. I've started scoring those occasional goals from free kicks. Needed these tips badly. Curving the ball is important, but the essential thing seems to release it at a relatively low height. Anyway, thanks again.

Am still a bit confused about how hitting the direction button opposite to the direction of the curve would help. Maybe I'll know better after I try it a few times.

Hell, in one game i score 3 goals direcly on free kick.

Make a "screw" away from goal and shot with maximum power.
