View Full Version : Olympiakos player-Demitrios Eleftheropoulos, voted best European GK!
Greekfanatic 07-05-2000, 12:50:AM What an honor it is to see my favirote Goalie D.Eleftheropoulos voted best in Europe!
He just recently started playing with the NT,and has alot of skills! And also he was also voted best GK in the CL a year ago!Thats 2 awards!I just can't get over it,i am so happy.Even the coach of REAL said he would love to have him on the team.Bravo Dimitri!
Kostas 7 07-05-2000, 01:55:AM I'm not surprised at all. There is more to come from this young talent.

Drinky UKSN 07-05-2000, 10:27:AM I remember being told that there was an amazing young keeper called Eleftheropoulos (I still remember the spelling http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif) who would be playing in one of the big leages in a couple of years - M********r U****d would do worse than to give him a regular first team place if they need a keeper. I hope he makes the breakthrough though because I like that to happen to all young players that I've predicted will go far http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif
Kostas 7 07-05-2000, 02:33:PM Sorry Drinky, but this guy ain't for sale. Not after the loss we suffered by letting Georgatos go to Inter. Olympiakos is rebuilding big time. Hell would brake loose if he was sold.
Greekfanatic 07-05-2000, 02:55:PM I agree with Kostas,as much as I would love to see him go to a big club like MAN U or REAL,and represent Greece,Olympiakos needs him to much.It would be to much of a blow to the team if he left.Maybe in a few years?
Greekfanatic 08-05-2000, 08:57:PM This is to the Greeks in here Kostas,PAOK,Nick.....
Who do u think was the best Greek Player this year??
Kostas 7 09-05-2000, 02:51:PM If Choutos was with Olympiakos from the begining of the season and if he played as well as he did from the moment he came to the port of lions it would of been him. But selecting him would not be right to the other superstars. I think the award should go to either Nikolaidis of AEK even though the beginning of his season was rough or to Lyberopoulos of Panathinaikos.
Greekfanatic 09-05-2000, 03:18:PM I agree if Choutos was with us from the beginning he would have definately been the best but I would have to give it to Nikolaidis.I mean the way he has been tearing up the nets just lifted AEK so much.I mean they are going to win the Greek Cup,they are fighting there way into 3rd place and it's all because of him.
Also Karagounis of PAO really had a break out year.
But I would give the best "Greek" in the Greek league award to Demis Nikolaidis. But just wait for Choutos next year,he will be awsome!
Now who do u think was the best foriegn player in Greece? And who was the best Greek Abroad?
Greekfanatic 09-05-2000, 04:01:PM I guess i'll post my comments.
The best foriegn player in the beginning everyone thought it would be Zahovic,HAHA What a laugh! What a panze he turned out to be!
I would have to say it's either between Giovanni or Gomez of OFI.I mean if Giovanni didn't get injured it would have been him.But Gomez really had a break out year with OFI and took them to a 3rd place position.I would have to say Gomez.
And about the best Greek Abroad,um well there's alot. There's Georgatos with Inter,Machlas with Ajax,Tsartas with Sevilla, and Dabizas with Newcastle. Those are the top perfomers.
But Georgato got injured,so did Machlas. So u can't really count them.It would have to be between Tsartas and Dabizas, they both had really good seasons. But I would give it to Tsartas. He was voted 6th best player in the Spanish Liga! And he just blew up with Sevilla. And now it's paying off,he might go to REAL!
Well thats my thoughts.What yours?
Greekfanatic 09-05-2000, 10:11:PM Well I mostly agree with u PAOK!U pretty much sumed it up!
Well as for the info u wanted on me here it is.
I am 16 years old,I live in America (Tampa,FL)and have lived here all my life. Both my parents moved here from Greece my mom (Mytilene) and my dad (Andros/Athens).So I have a deep love for my Heritage.
My favirote team as u know is Olympiakos.I always liked them but I feel in love when I saw them against Juventus in the CL Quarter Finals. My favirote player used to be Georgatos, but now it's Choutos. What a talent he is,he is going to be "one" of the best Strikers in Europe!
Here are my favirote teams:
1 Olympiakos!!!!
2 AEK Athens
3 PAOK Saloniki
4 Panathinaikos
5 Aris Saloniki
6 Iraklis (I like them name hehe)
Anyway that's me.Nice to see some Greeks in here!Lets keep up the communication!
ZHTO ELLAS!!!
Greekfanatic 09-05-2000, 10:17:PM Hey have u guys ever been to www.Phantis.com/soccer/ ??
It's a Greek Soccer site that has a forum like this one.Once your in there go to "Soccer Cafe" thats the forum. They have Soccer,Basketball and a General sports Topics. It's a very good site!
PS My name is Chris.
::shinji:: 10-05-2000, 01:32:AM I got a question for you guys, i was wondering if anyone knows what became of a Cabo-Verdian turned Greek player named Batista? I think he played in Portugal for a little while before going to Greece. I saw him play once for the Greek national team against Portugal in a friendly some years ago, but I've never heard anything about him since.
PAOK F.C. Fan 10-05-2000, 06:12:AM Well, I haven't been on-line for a while, so I'll take it all from the start:
First of all, I'm mighty glad regarding Eleftheropoulos. He, along with Djordjevic are my fav Olympiakos players. (Well, if I chose not to be biased, then I'll have to admit that are many more valuable players in Olympiakos). Still, I disagree with Kostas: Every Greek player that is exceptionally efficient SHOULD be promoted to European Clubs, especially if the question is about Manchester and Real.
Now, as far as the Best Greek Player of the year is concerned, I would cross Nikolaidis. This year's Nikolaidis can not hold a candle to the great last-year's Top Goalscorer. I guess the Cup Final will give us more clues as to his performance. I particularly fancied Maladenis with AEK, Nalitzis with Panionios (but unfortunately not with us), Karagounis with Panathinaikos and Alexandris with Olympiakos. I also agree with your views on Lambros Choutos, and it should come as no surprise if he proves to be by far the best player in next year's Championship.
Gomez was hot in the beginning of the season, but he now seems to have taken the slippery slope, which indicates that there is no consistency in him. Giovanni, the finest player ever to play in the Greek Championship, though pretty unlucky, demonstrated some pretty excellent football in the beginning of the season. I would also recomend (and this is neither biased nor egotistic), Omar Tetradze. By far the best defensive midfielder in the past ten years, his presence is vital in every PAOK game. I personally believe that if he hadn't encountered those problems with his legs, he would have stayed in Roma and have a great career.
Now, I admit it had never occured to me that Georgatos could have such a good year with Inter or get established in the starting squad. So, I will go for him.
Finally, as far as the biggest fraud of the year is concerned, the finalists are three: 1)Dragan Ciric (AEK), 2)Zlatko Zahovic (Olympiakos) and 3)George C. Georgiades (us).
I was thinking I would like to have some information on you. I am (surprisingly enough, huh) 13 years old and live in Thessaloniki, the finest Greek city. :-)
Finally, I'd like a comment on our basketball team's break through SEF, topped of with the magnificent victory by 20 points in Palais des Sports.
KSANTHE, KSANTHE APO TON KANAPE!
Greekfanatic 10-05-2000, 02:14:PM Well I don't know to much about him,but I know he played for the Greek NT in WC 98.He also played for the Greek Club AEK Athens. He was playing really well but then again I don't know to much about him.And I have no idea where he is now.
Kostas 7 10-05-2000, 02:37:PM He now is playing his final years for Aris Salonika. He was a figure on the greek pitches for many years. Thanks Daniel Lima Batista for so many wonderfull years of football.
Kostas 7 10-05-2000, 05:06:PM I agree and disagree with Paok FC Fan. Yes it would be nice to see Greek players excell at the big euro club level but that's only if we have the extra players to spare like the brazilians do. I think our first priority should be the clubs. Keep the talents if there is not many with the clubs at home. Why shouldn't Olympiakos, Panathinaikos, AEK or PAOK go for the top prize called Champions league. If they keep the talent they can do it. The money is there too. If the day comes where the talent is flowing from left and right then let them go. We cannot reley on the foreigners regardless on how good they are. It does damage to the national team. Our players loose spots to them and don't get any playing time, the talent is overlooked, and they are lost. Take for example the state of Italian and German soccer. There national teams were not what they once were. In italy they are overflowing there teams with outsiders, some teams have 75% foreigners. There players loss positions cause of this, not that they don't feild a good squad but it's not what it used to be at the national level. So keep them at home till one of the clubs makes a braek through at the big level. The result will be just like in basketball when we won the European Championship. Since then our clubs have dominated and players around the world would love a crack at a starting line up like Panathinaikos, AEK and Olympiakos has.
Greekfanatic 10-05-2000, 05:27:PM Actually I agree Kostas. That made alot of sense.I mean I like to see players like Georgatos and Tsartas play in big clubs but I magine if they came back. Our clubs would be very good!
But then again on the other hand, what about all the younger Greek players?Players like Antzas of Oly,or Konstantinidis of PAOK,Karagounis,Choutos if all those big players came back, when would they have the opportunity to play?
Well this topic is really going now!Lets keep it up!
Kostas 7 10-05-2000, 05:31:PM But if they come back look at the bright side. Teams like Panathinaikos won't have to sign 8 foreigners.
Greekfanatic 10-05-2000, 07:28:PM Thats very true, and I guess all in all it would be better for them to all come back, but then again look at it from there point of view.1)There making more money.2)There playing with better players.3)There getting world recognition.4)the Fields are alot better than in Greece.
So from there point of view it's better to stay out of Greece.Although some like Borborkis (PAOK) are going home. And Zagorakis is going to AEK next year.Georgatos has stated he will return to Greece.Dabizas looks comfortable now in Newcastle, but he almost came back to Greece. And Tsartas really doesn't want to go back to Greece. So it might happen.
But then we have one's like Limberopoulos and Mavrogenidis who have gotton offers from Italy.Eleftheropoulos always has had some offers.Karagounis and Choutos will definately get some attention so it looks like some of them will leave. So I guess we will never get all the Greeks back home.
PAOK F.C. Fan 11-05-2000, 04:25:PM I totally agree with Greekfanatic, regarding his notes on the players' point of view. Take Vakouftsis (Fiorentina) for example: At a young age, he gets to be trained at one of the world's finest sports centers along with Batistuta, Rui Costa and Chiesa, he has won good commentsin Italy about his potential and the club itself can guarantee about his future. Now, Imagine that he were playing in Greece: Most probably, he would be in a second or third divison club due to the lack of able scouters to get him for a major club. Even if he got to one (take us for example) he would be training at Nea Efkarpia, the only (!!!) PAOK training ground that exists, putting his career at stake or - at least - damaging his potential. On growing up and getting to play with the first team, he wouldn't be able to demonstrate his talent on the pathetic Greek pitches. Finally, if he were to lead a series of bad performances, the fans would condemn him out of the team.
Oh, something else about Batista: I heard he is retiring at the end of the year, but he will remain at Aris as a link between the fans and the board. Something else, Benfica, I heard Abdelsatar Machmout Sabry scored a free-kicked goal against Sporting, which was also the winning one. Is this true? What are your thoughts about this player?
Greekfanatic 11-05-2000, 04:55:PM I totally agree with the Greek Pitches!
In my mind that is the first thing that should attended to next year!I mean teams like Ionikos and Ethnikos Asteras have pitches like a back yard!!! I mean the only European Quality Stadium Greece has is OAKA,and it's shared by the 2 biggest teams!!! When are we going to realize we have to improve the conditions?? Hopefully with the Olympics comeing in 2004,some stadiums will be either rebuilt or new ones will be put up.
