IceBlu 31-01-2002, 02:35:PM I think Arsenal are the ON-Pitch bad boys...........and Leeds are the Off-Pitch bad boys :D
Amika 31-01-2002, 02:37:PM well, wenger has just said that it is the highbury pitch that cause his team all the red cards... what a stupid excuses!!!! so if that is the case then why southampton (before they move to st mary) has the smallest pitch in EPL and didn't get those red cards...??? unbelievable excuses.. made me laugh man... :D
and btw, some of their red cards are not at highbury... luzhny's is at ewood park, van bronrosk(don't know how to spell his name..) was at anfield...
Amika 31-01-2002, 02:40:PM sorry guys.. i've double click on my reply...
Amika 31-01-2002, 02:41:PM hmmm.. i must agreed with you on that iceblu... i saw this article at soccernet and it seems that arsenal is the official bad boy in the EPL... here is the cut out...
Since Wenger took over in late September 1996, Arsenal have had 42 sendings off. Over that same period, Manchester United have incurred 22 red cards, the same number as Liverpool, while Leeds have had 23, Chelsea 29 and Newcastle just 19.
well, they are in the lead with 13 more than their nearest rival... hehehehe...:D

SB9Dragon 31-01-2002, 04:12:PM I agree with iceblu. What is Arsenal doing red card after red! I guess its da jersey?!;) :D
Neutral LFC 31-01-2002, 04:23:PM I think it's kind of unfair to pick on Arsenal (I know this is for fun Amika, I'm just saying) because some of their players do get a bad rep with the referees. Just look at Viera last season where he went through that patch where he could just look at someone the wrong way and the ref would give the poor guy a yellow card. Not saying he's a saint but often he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt with referees like many other players do.
This isn't to say that Arsenal don't play an agressive style, they do but it seems to work for them and the red cards are something they'll have to deal with. I'd say their red card tally is 75% their agressive style (which is exciting to watch...when they're not playing Liverpool lol) and 25% their reputation with referees.

i'm not picking on them.. to be frank.. their red cards are more towards those tackles and professional fouls whereas those collected by leeds are those stupid individual red cards.. the mills case for example and smith as well...
Mishkin 31-01-2002, 05:42:PM Arsenal are no way bad boys. Look at all the replays of these so called red card offences and you will see. I think the referees are being too harsh on Arsenal at the moment. :(
Leeds are bad on and on off the pitch. Kewell reportedly had a huge argument with his famous wife in a resturant. Bowyer and Woodgate, their saga. Now in the match versus Chelsea how did, I think Bowyer, I forget now, not get sent off. He already had a yellow. Then a very, very late challenge on Dalla Bona who was lying on the ground, this challenge resulted in giving Dalla Bona getting a bloodied leg! Still the ref did nothing, then a nothing tackle by Stanic and ,he got a yellow! Leeds might pay refs and still get sent off and bookings, shows how bad they are.:D :p
GunnerPRide 31-01-2002, 09:48:PM that wasnt bowyer ...
it was jason wilcox wasnt it ?
anyway Leeds are way bigger bad boys , i mean especially with the woodgate/bowyer incident thats just dirty they should be behind bars juggling bricks

That's the one Wilcox. Sorry I'm not a really big EPL fan, yet I saw the incident all the same.
Amika 01-02-2002, 02:54:AM i would like to hear all you arsenal fans about wenger comment on their red cards and blaming the highbury pitch for too compact... what do you think?? personally i think it is an stupid and unbelievable excuses...
ShearerM4 01-02-2002, 06:36:AM yeah at least David OLeary is honest about the game, the chalenges and the rest
but Wenger always seems to miss em .... is he not watching the action or what ?
I would say the ARSE
jigger37 01-02-2002, 12:25:PM Just what is to be gained from publicly critisising your players why can't it be done in the dressing room? Regardless of what is said publicly or not,is it not up to the players themselves to show restraint, other than bergkamp's two footed challenge in recent games a number of the red cards have been unfair (maybe b'cos im a gunner) and similar challenges by other teams seem to go unpunished.
and to that newcastle guy above i know ur upset we won b'cos u want to be second and all but david o leary being honest the only reason he said it was because of the behaviour of mills and to look good for sky, compare that to mistimed tackels which at worst is the only crime that can be leveled at arsenal.
Amika 01-02-2002, 02:33:PM not a single arsenal fans in this forum seem willing to comment on wenger's comment about the red cards... anyway, there is an article in bbc sports which is good for neutral to read and not recommented for arsenal fans... :D
here is the link...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport/hi/english/football/teams/a/arsenal/newsid_1793000/1793633.stm
some cut out from the article...
Under George Graham's disciplined reign at Arsenal, their home ground became known as Fortress Highbury.
Now, it is more like a battleground.
Wenger's side are runaway leaders of the bad boy league, or bottom of the Fair Play league, whichever way you prefer to view it.
Three red cards this week takes Arsenal's tally for the season to 11.
It's a record most Premiership managers would be concerned with. But not Wenger, apparently.
In fact, the chances are, he didn't see it.
The Gunners boss has turned a blind eye so often it's a surprise he hasn't cricked his neck.
A manager backing his players is to be applauded, but Wenger has taken his loyalty too far.
Surely, it is time for the manager to act in a bid to cure the red rash which is infecting Highbury.
His only comment on the situation so far has been to insist that Arsenal are not a dirty team.
No-one is fooled - and if Wenger does not wake up and smell the coffee quickly then he will fail to spot the biggest threat to Arsenal's title dream.
The Gunners' red-card haul alone has produced a list of suspensions as long as Wenger's outstretched arms and guarantees the manager cannot select from a full-strength squad in countless crucial games.
