Great Game! We controlled all the way. Goals from Josh Wolff and Jeff Agoos. Well deserved win for the good ol' US boys. http://sportsmed.starwave.com/media/soc/2002/0201/photo/s_wolff_ht.jpg

I'm very glad that we won this Tournament! First of all, we were playing with our B team while Costa Rica played with their A Team, we found great talent in the players we were having doubts about, like Frankie Hejduk, Josh Wolff(coming off a serious injury), etc.
Another plus about winning the GOLD CUP is that the USA gets to play in the next Copa America and in the Confederations Cup!!! We also should go up in the FIFA Rankings(Not that it is a big deal)

I don't particularly like the USA, why? I don't know. Anyway they are looking good and may be a force to reckon with in the years to come. They may even make the final stage of the World Cup. Good for them.

Josh Wolff (the player in the picture) doesn't usually look so psychotic, I thinks he looks so weird because he's in the middle of a kick.

That's sad, isn't it? The tournament is not only in the United States, but the US is also a participient, yet national team (US) hardly gets any coverage on t.v. However, there were a few select matches broadcasted on t.v - for instance, the Korea - Mexico match and the USA - Costa Rica match were both shown live on Univision. And I think Fox Sports World aired some of the matches (like USA - Canada) on delay.

USA USA USA USA USA(!!!)

The USA kit was pretty snazzy during the '94 World Cup (blue top with faded stars around), red shorts and such...

However, I really like the current uniforms...the home uniform (all white) might seem dull, but it has a rich, classy look.

You might like the Away uniform better: it's a red jersey, blue shorts, and red socks...

Anyways, I really think the Costa Rican coach should re-evaluate his World Cup team...

I understand that Costa Rica was fielding its presumed World Cup roster, yet their only decent performance at the Gold Cup was the 3-1 victory over Korea. Yet, the Koreans weren't that great of a team to begin with (they CAN be good, they CAN be bad: not very consistent, are they?)

Considering that the US is looked upon as one of the minnows of the World Cup, I find it nearly impossible for the Costa Ricans to advance to Round 2 (for Korea/Japan). They might stand a chance against China (maybe not), but Brazil and Turkey will most likely have a field day with this team.

Also, the referees at the Gold Cup were terrible: I'm under the impression that every team complained of poor refereeing. I even remember 2 instances from Univision where the camera caught 2 seperate moments of a Mexican player(s) punching a Korean. In any case, Costa Rica got away with many fouls which I know the refs at the World Cup won't tolerate. And that fight at the end was embarrassing: the referee will be reprimanded for not showing more than 2 yellow cards at that match. There were some rare cases with a US player getting off lightly, but for the most part, the US avoided unnecessary fouls.

On a brighter note, Wanchope was a total bad-ass player: I remember several instances from the match in which he outdribbled 2 or more US players...maybe the Costa Ricans should try pitting 9 men in defence, and let Wanchope work the Forward and Midfield line by himself.

As for set-pieces, both teams had their weak aspects. The US was awesome at free kicks, but VERY POOR on corner kicks (and crossing the ball for that matter)(yes, I enjoyed seeing the ball soar into the heavens, but on corner kicks, you want the ball to dip somewhere near the pile)...

on the other hand, the Costa Ricans were non-memorable on corner kicks, and absolutely ridiculous on free kicks (I've seen babies kick footballs harder/more precise than them)...

Considering that the US was playing with a B Team, I'm sure that overseas players like Kirovski and Reyna won't hesitate in taking more shots, and not dicking around the penalty area waiting for a better shot (e.g. Jones drove into the penalty area, and instead of going for a 5m goal, he looked around and waited for a better shot or someone to pass to)...apart from that, I'm impressed with the teamwork and coordination of USA...the passing isn't quite yet great, but it's nice to see them knock the ball around for opportunities...for the Costa Ricans, they only looked dangerous when the Strikers had the ball, but even then, it never looked like they'd ever penetrate the US defence...

As far as coaching goes, Arena's really turned the US around. Under Sampson, the US was just a laughing stock who couldn't even beat Iran in 98. I just hope he (Arena) does more homework on his opposition (especially for the World Cup). When asked about "what to expect from the Canadians," Arena replied along the lines of "Not really sure, haven't seen them play."

In any case, I'm positive that the US will advance 2nd to Portugal into the 2nd round at Korea/Japan.

Have you seen their new kits??http://abacus.sj.ipixmedia.com/abc/M28/_EBAY_4d60609febb19122ed6db4f205/i-1.JPG

I like the uniform they have now much better though. I totally agree, it definitely has a rich, classy look. Not too flashy, but very nice.

It really gives me a good feeling to see so much discussion on the CONCACAF Gold Cup and it's teams - even if no one seems to agree with me that Canada is the most underrated team in the Confederation!! LOL...

I just thought I'd mention it here, in case anyone doesn't know, that we've just opened a new FIFA gaming site for those of us with an interest in in the CONCACAF region. Check it out at

www.fifaconcacaf.com

At the moment we're still working some of the bugs out, and our forum and more downloads should be available soon. But we've got news and links from around the CONCACAF in both Spanish and English, and a guestbook to sign too!

We're hoping this will be a site that EVERYONE in the CONCACAF can enjoy, so if you've got some news from your country/league, email it to me and we'll try and post it right away. You'll notice from our Gold Cup coverage that we're not trying to replace any online news sources.. but mainly give people a few interesting tidbits that they might want to follow up on.

Cheers!

The US national team will face Italy on Wednesday February 13th. I hope we can pull some sort of miracle since they are playing in Italy.

Are you saying that those posted kits are going to be future kits for the U.S? They are nice, although I do like the current ones too.
