i've been using celtic with a 442. using this one i've previously gone on a 56 game no loss streak, won 2 champions cups and one uefa cup. i'm in 05/06 and am currently undefeated in league since 03/04 (80 something games). granted, there is not a lot of competition in this league, but i've had considerable european success as well. i don't think Celtic would be considered to be in the same class as Inter or Real etc. (i started with 12 mill) but by buying hot prospects (j. cole, van der vaart, p. reid, de witt) and bosmans ( m. owen, i. casillas, lassissi) i've been able to spend on the likes of Crespo and Claudio Lopez. Some players can be bought for fairly cheap, yet will be as equally valuable for your team - under 2.5 M- Denilson, Deco, S.Touma, D.Jensen, R.Malcolm, P.Reid, etc. and under 5 M - j. Cole, Carew, Stonebridge, etc.
Also, bosmans from South America can often be sold right away for a tidy profit (eg. Roni - 9.5M) and the Swedish teams seem to have an excess of very cheap, quality players (Bjarsmyr, P. Karlsson, J. Forsberg, J. Lunden, Z. Ibrahimovic, P. Nilsson, M. Allback, M. Asper, etc.)

mark with DCs on strikers, DL/DR on wingers and DMC on whichever MC you like (against a 442)

*often, some of the better european teams you might encounter in the Chanpions Cup use one ST with two AM arrowed up on either side, in which case , just mark them with DL and DCs leaving the DR zonal (leave DMC to help out on one of the AMs or sub him for another attacker)

This season my lineup is extremely potent, however it hasn't always been so high powered/deep! This formation will work wonders as long as you have a few decent players for the key positions. I've consistently averaged around 4 gls for, while only conceding around .5 gls/game
