View Full Version : WHY THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SUCKS : OR SOMEONE AT PARMA IS A GENIUS
juppal10z 21-11-1999, 07:20:PM My god has anyone realized how good Parma really is??? Okay lets start at the front they have Herman Crespo and Amoroso the HIGHEST GOAL SCORER IN ITALY LAST YEAR. I know that Juan Veron is gone now but they got Ortega for next to nothing!! This is the man DIEGO MARADONNA SAID WAS HIS SUCCESSOR! At the back Lilian Thuram and Caravanno!!! Two of the best in the world not to mention the best keeper in Italy Buffon!!!
And did they qualify for Champs league?? No because many players were injured. Despite what happened at the beginning (Inter 5 - 1)of the season they are amazing now yet mighty leagues like Siere A are victims to crap teams like Rangers and Celtic etc.
Unfortunately half these teams listed will not be elgible even though ALL could beat the hell out of Rosenberg, Rangers, AIK Stolkholm PSV, despite your sorry pride you know what I mean!
1 Lazio
2 AS Roma
3 Juventus
4 Inter Milan
5 AC Milan
6 Parma
7 Florintina
All these teams are in the same league as the Barcelonas, Man United and Bayern Munichs of the world!!! Not the pathetic weak leagues
Wake up Organizers!
PolishPower 22-11-1999, 05:10:AM Ortega overrated, biggest similarity between him and Maradona is they have the same haircut.
I saw Parma today, great team but very bad pitch... if you saw the game you know what I mean i think they used a bulldozer to clear the snow...
Your other comments man are you greedy or something or do you write this stuff to piss people off?
haw juppal10z...you are a w@nker! you know nothing about fitba ya tosser!
Inter Milan USA 22-11-1999, 05:35:AM you can never put 7 teams from 1 league in the champions league! what are you thinking!?!?!?! Champions League is about varity of the best teams from their respective Nations, not to have 1/4 of the teams from 1 country
juppal10z 22-11-1999, 07:11:AM No Im not trying to piss people off!!! Why cant you put 7 teams in a tournement!!! People like myself and 99% of the rest of soccer fans wanna see the best possible football being played!!! If that means that crap leagues (I wont give any so that some people dont start complaining) have no teams and wonderfully talented leagues such as Italy Spain etc have many so be it!
Lets say for example there was a Latin league with Lazio, Inter, Milan, Juve, Barca, Real Madrid etc. And a Eastern European league with Slovakian, Yugoslavian, and other countries that are not able to afford the best skilled players. What would you rather see Barca beating some Bosnian team 5 - 0 or a 4 3 win between Lazio and Real Madrid???
I'll have a pint of what you're drinking.
the Champions league should have the champions from each european country in it not 2nd 3rd and 4th etc. But to put a load more teams from one country in it is even more worse. The organisers have completely messed it up by putting more than one team from a country in it. Say Man U won the English premiership and Arsenal came second then Arsenal won the Champions League they wouldn't even be champions of their own country never mind Europe. If more than 1 team is in it from a country they should call it a different name.
And if you've forgotten juppal, Rangers had injuries as-well when we beat Parma. And if a side that is meant to be so good can't beat a team who is supposedly not as good as them with a few injuries then I think Parma isn't as good as you think they are.
WAKE UP Juppal10z!!! Italian football is no longer dominant in european football.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
Rosenborg beat AC Milan 2-1 at San Siro in 96/97, and played in the quarter finals. Juventus proved to be the better team then.
Rosenborg was the only team who managed to win against Real Madrid when they won in 97/98.
This season, they beat the german leader Dortmund 3-0 in Dortmund, and won their group in grand style. I'm looking forward to see what Rosenborg can do to Bayern Munich on wednesday. I smell another great victory!
PS:FIFA ranks Norway on 7th place, way ahead of countries like Italy and England. (Thery'e still ranked below Brazil, although they beat them twice last year...)
Divine 22-11-1999, 02:17:PM Well put, RBK and you other guys. And Juppal10z, you are a joke. I've never seen such ignorance and lack of understanding for the charms of football.
It's the CHAMPIONS league, not the "number 6-league", for christ's sake! Your team wasn't good enough last year - face it.
And I bet RosenbOrg (not RosenbErg) could beat your team any time. But wait a minute...Oh no, they don't have any big names! And oh, they don't have any primadonnas poncing around collecting ridiculous paychecks and driving Ferraris! Of course they can't beat the mighty teams from Italy or Spain! That must be impossible! Well, you just watch out for the results, and see for yourself that the world of football is much more diverse and fascinating than your brain. Someone at Parma might be a genius. You're most certainly not one of them...

Fat Bhoy Tim 22-11-1999, 03:29:PM I may be a Celtic fan
therefore i hate the Huns
but even i was stunned and impressed by how they ripped Parma to shreds
And parma were missing only Crespo
when he came back for Parma's home leg he played ****e
My point, you know f**k all about football just results.
Raised glass to Rangers

GOONERBHOY 23-11-1999, 01:19:AM I hate Rangers, not Huns,
Therefore i wan`t too see rangers loose i don`t care about all that "it`s good for scotland" if it`s rangers it`s never good .
DirkDiggler 23-11-1999, 04:49:AM juppal don't be so upset. Injuries or no Rangers still would have won as the best team quite often does.
Inter Milan USA 23-11-1999, 05:10:AM I still don't think you should load a bucnh of teams from 1 league in the European championship but the Serie A is still the best league in the world, with names like Bagggio, Vieri, Ronaldo, Bierhoff, Batigol, Crespo, Maldini, Djokieff (probably spelled wrong), etc. etc. the Serie A is where its at
PS2 3.4.00 23-11-1999, 05:42:AM So you wanna see 7 teams from Serie A in C.L?? I have a suggestion: Stay off the crack and stick to watching your precious Serie A..As far as Serie A Being "the place to be," Do you really want us to sit here and name the best players from EPL and L Liga and compare them to Seriod A?? Because if you do, you will find the lists are quite compareable and in fact you may find that England and Spain have the superior players...Lastly: WHERE WAS ITALY IN LAST YEARS C.L?? Getting their asses handed to them by the likes of Man Utd. Recall they swept through Juve and Inter like they were MLS squads....
Inter Milan USA 23-11-1999, 08:20:AM last year was just a bad year for the Serie A sides in Champions League, Juventus and Inter both didn't play up to their maxinum ability last season even in the Serie A. ( Inter still can't get it togeather http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/frown.gif )
Oh, does that mean that Italian teams are better per definition than other teams, and that results doesn't count for them? Why should they even bother to play then?
Your ideology of football is outdated. In fact, your way of thinking haven't been very popular since about 1945, when it was rather common in countries like Germany and..oh, yes,...Italy.(big surprise!)
AJAX supporter 26-11-1999, 11:41:AM Well done Rangers, Parma's European adventure lasted long this season didn't it?
Fat Bhoy Tim 26-11-1999, 01:49:PM Juppal
aren't you the same person who said
england would win against SCOTLAND 5-0
hmm,amd i right
i am right
you obviously last watched football during the world cup
Bah Humbug....
Kewell the Jewell 26-11-1999, 02:41:PM Is it just me or is every Italian supporter who writes in here and biased, selfish prick. All those teams he named are good but i could name the top 8 clubs in England it match that easy
PolishPower 27-11-1999, 07:01:AM I dont think every Italian supporter is small minded, but a few are, but there are no small minded England supporters? please, all I can say people expand your minds because your jingoistic "my league rules" commentary is not cutting it.
By the way top 8 Italian teams are better then top 8 English teams, by any rational objective measure(better players, better results).
DirkDiggler 27-11-1999, 12:18:PM But if you include the SPL the top 8 teams in Britain are better than the top 8 Itilian teams.
PolishPower 28-11-1999, 12:21:AM hahaha, no not quite. When Scottish teams do well regularly in Europe then we can talk.
Ok in historical sense England and Scotland have many great teams, unfortunately many of these great teams are in bad form lately.
DirkDiggler 28-11-1999, 01:12:AM Was it not the Glasgow Rangers who put Parma out of the Champion's League? They just beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 and in reality the score could have been 5-0
The UEFA Cup final will be Rangers Vs Leeds
Champion's League final will be Chelsea Vs Porto
There will be no Italian teams in either of the finals.
PolishPower 28-11-1999, 01:28:AM You want to make a bet about those predictions? I don't see it happening that way at all, but I guess time will prove you wrong or right.
As to Rangers this year, you missed my point. I was asking what have Scottish teams done in Europe in the past 10 years, or even 5 years. Just because they are doing well this year(yes I saw the game in Munich and Rangers were so unlucky not to make it to next round), does not negate the fact that they have been a disaster in Europe for much of the rest of the decade.
Inter Milan USA 29-11-1999, 09:37:AM oops, was gone for a few days, RBK, I am not saing results don't matter, I am saying dont base a whole league on a couple teams that were playing really well 1 season don't play as well in the next year.
FIFAfreak 06-12-1999, 08:04:AM What a dumb*ss (Juppa). The Italians are always the first to whine about the Champions League. We don't have enough teams in it, we didn't win it, we this, we that, waaaaaaahhhhh!
Personally I think that if you're not the CHAMPION of your LEAGUE then you shouldn't be in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. Why it's still named that this year is a mystery. It may be a little more exciting and make a lot of money through TV, but the essence of a European Champion has been diluted. UEFA succumbed by changing the structure of the tournament to appease the big clubs (especially the Italian whiners) and avoid a breakoff super league. And I'll tell you this, if they did have a super league the Italians (Inter, AC, Juve, Lazio, Roma, Parma Fiorentina) would be in for a shock. I seriously doubt they would be at the top of such a league when playing all the other high caliber clubs from all over Europe week in and week out. It wouldn't be like beating up on the rest of the Italian League (like Perugia on down to Cagliari). Talk about crap. It's no different than the Scottish League (Rangers & Celtic), i.e. no competition. To say any one league is the best is stupid especially in football when anyone can beat anyone on a good day.
Game Rod 06-12-1999, 09:46:PM I think Mase and FIFAfreak are right about the Champs League. The problem with football these days is probably the same that made EA Sports use a very strange criteria choosing the clubs, leagues and even national teams in Fifa 2000.
And the problem is... MONEY . Of course Champions League should only have the champion from each country, but that way not all the "big" clubs would profit as much as they want. So, they just used their $power$ to make pressure on UEFA, who wasn't strong enough to hold.
What we're watching at this time, is the business eating up the simple and beautiful sport that football can be.
First, "Champions League" became the "Champion$ Inc. League". Then the "Cup Winners Cup" is pure and simply extinguished (who on earth knows why?). Tomorrow, what?
Don't tell me that the only clubs that will be able to play good football and win cups, will have to be a kind of international puddings (with players from a lot countries in one team), paying them huge fortunes?
And what kind of champions will we have in the future? Take a look at today's world champions for instance, Man. United. They have a great team, and play good football. But take a look at it... It's not a football club anymore. It's a business corporation that owns a TV channel, sells products all over the world, etc.
Football is just one of their hobbies.
Here in Portugal, we are just fed up of watching something that should be a much better league! Most of our best players are spread out there, because our clubs simply don't have enough money to pay them. Of course that this way, they can't stand against other Europeans clubs as they did before.
Do you know that team that Roma beat 7-0 in the first round of the UEFA cup, Vitoria de Setubal? (I won't even mention Benfica...) Short time ago newspapers said that one of its managers was desperate trying to find someone who would help them pay the players, who hadn't been payed since October! We just don't know how they had guts enough to beat Roma 1-0 in the second round in Setubal (but that also showed that they could have done better in Rome if they hadn't got too nervous).
Today, most of the clubs that rule in football aren't the ones that can play the best football anymore. Only the ones who can afford it...
Sorry for the speach... http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/wink.gif
Walter Jr 07-12-1999, 02:50:AM I can see you guys talking about the supremacy of European Football, but I really would like to see a world league. It would be interesting to see teams like Barcelona and Milan facing teams like Corinthians, Boca Jrs, Vasco da Gama, etc. You had a sample of it last week, when you could see Man Utd barely beating Palmeiras for the Toyota Cup. I think it would be tough for the European stars to defeat south america´s teams like Palmeiras : They have the Brazil GK ( Marcos ), two players that featured Brazil in the last World Cup ( Jr. Baiano and César Sampaio ) a WC 94 Champion ( Zinho ) One of the fastest strikers in the world ( Asprilla ) and a player that will be the world sensation in two or three years : The Midfielder Alex !
What do you think of that ?

FIFAfreak 07-12-1999, 04:08:AM I think a world club league league would be pretty cool. From what I've seen of the Chilean & Argentinian leagues they look pretty exciting. The only problem is the travel.
Most European fans (my self included) for the most part would rather watch a European Championship though. They can't even get a super league in Europe together right now (which might be interesting too) so a world league is probably a futuristic pipe dream right now.
Another alternative would be an expanded world club cup tournament (like World Cup but with Clubs) instead of the current one match between European & S. American Champions. It could be played every 2 years in and around the World Cup and other tournaments. It would be cool to have D.C. United and the Mexican Champion play amongst the other club champions from around the world including Asia and Africa. Plus it would be great filler in between World Cup years. How about that?
PolishPower 07-12-1999, 05:38:AM I read that the concept of a world league has been discussed within the football organizations, and I would not be surprised if it happened eventually, maybe not in the next 5 years, but maybe in 10 or 15 or 20 years.
Right now I don't like the idea of a super league in Europe, if it happens it will really damage the domestic leagues, so people really have to think about if they really want this to happen.
