I guess Sa Pinto had his moments, but MUCH too inconsistant to be a regular on the National team......

He'll even struggle to get a spot in Sporting's squad... But one thing is for sure: the guy has attitude. And that lacked tonight, I'm afraid...

From England National Squad

Heskey

OK OK OK ...its debatable but when you think that there are a lot of better guys in the line like Ricketts , Vassell and many more , then why stick with him ..i think he should better play in midfield than as a striker...

Wales is my team, but from last nights performance I wouldn't drop anyone. Seeing as I watched the England game as well (the beauty of multi televisioned pubs) and will be cheering for them this coming World Cup:

Heskey. When he starts playing consistantly well again I'd consider giving him a place on the bench, but he was pretty poor last night, and the only thing I can ever remember him doing for England is scoring the 5th and vitally important :crazyboy: goal against Germany. I think England should take Owen, Fowler, Sheringham and Vassell (based on last nights debut and his effectiveness for Villa this season, although I'd like to see him in an England shirt again before cementing his name in the squad) and if there's a 5th spot Andy Cole, Kevin Phillips, (give him 90mins with a full strength squad), or Ricketts, (give the lad another chance, I'd be nervous making a debut. Although he wasn't impressive last night I thought he did more than 'I can't quite stay on my feet' Heskey).

I'm also a bit dubious about Nigel Martyn. Seems too buckle under pressure, has never really 'performed' for England and is going through a bit of a tough time with Leeds at the moment. But I think I'll let him have another chance.

oh well it's the azurris so what do i care...

... concerning England ... Vassell has to go to the WC .. he's been huge and a regular threat in th U21s
Should also go DeFoe, Joe Cole
shouldn't be included Andy Cole

Erm yeah in the past I would have said Simon Davies but to be fair he was played out of position during the qualifiers. Yet last night he played very well on the right wing. For me though, the only man I wouldn't want to see in a red jersey again is f'king Steve Jenkins - he's useless!

Cheering for English at the WC??? What??? Being a true Celt I'm shouting for Ireland!

I wish to see Bierhoff as a late sub for Jancker.
Christian Wörns isn't bad; he just looked bad marking Owen.
Linke? Hmm...I'd like to see the backline as Kehl (libero), with Nowotny and Rehmer marking.

Perhaps, I don't want to see Ziege in the line-up.

I think Bierhoff's time is over, he simply scores too few goals!
The other ones....well, they're not very good in the Bundesliga, so I think they are not the right men for the national team.
Your version of the defence would be wuite good, but I think Nowotny is a better libero (isn't that "sweeper" in english?) than Kehl, so I would place Kehl at defensive midfield.

Another question: Are you a German or why did you support Germany in THAT way at your thread?

I don't really want someone to be out of the team, but i want someon IN, it's Gilles De Bilde, he hasn't been selected since at least 4 years, i hope they'll give him his chance in one of the friendlies, i think he deserves it, he plays quite good now, he jsut scored a hattrick last weekend...

ich bin ami, aber I've always been a fan of the Mannschaft ever since the 1994 World Cup. Although Germany lost (albeit controversely), their level of gameplay was magnificent. My first hero was Klinsmann, and he was probably most responsible for my interest in German football.

I think in English, libero and sweeper have slightly different meanings. The "sweeper" is the classic clean-up man who isn't assigned man-marking duties, and is usually playing more of a defensive role.

On the other hand, "libero" is related to a sweeper, but Beckenbauer gave more duties to this backline position (the most important being attacking); thus, it's more of a free role, or "libero." Kehl seems to be much like Beckenbauer. I think the Defensive-midfield role would be suited more to Jeremies, despite München's current slump.

That's the distinction I see between "libero" and "sweeper."

Aussies don't have big stars , but chucking viduka out would mean that they won't have any better strikers...He's a good player in my opinion

Perhaps if we played a few more friendlies with European based players, he would gel more and be more valuable. I use the word "perhaps" in the sense that this would DEFINITELY happen...:D

Perhaps if Farina played Agostino up front with Viduka they would be raved about. Viduka's back heels and passes are invaluable to Leeds, as well as his goals, and he may just need a coach who understands him. awwww. :D

Or maybe just time to get to a working knowledge of the players you play with. Viduka and Fowler took a while to get to know each other and then look at what they accomplished.

2nd half of the game against France was the way they should have played againt uruguay. Thats my honest opinion - me being an armchair soccer coach and all.

Well i wouldn't like to see quite a couple faces in the Romanian National Team
1. Constantin Galca (he is absolutely terrible)
2. Adrian Ilie because he is not what he used to be, Ganea would fill his spot much better or even Mutu would!
3. Daniel Prodan
And so many others that are not worth mentioning!
I want Soica to play as center midfield though and i wish HAGI was still around lol

Jörgen Pettersson.
Luckily at the moment he is so bad that there is not much risk that he'll be in the squad.

His days have already passed. He was very good once. But not now.

The Neville's. Can't tackle, can't pass, and no big impact in attack (that area being their strenght). Talk about shortage of left footed players we defeintely have a shortage of experienced right backs.

Secondly, Campbell and Ferdinand as a central defensive pairing a no go. An Adams like defender alongside either Campbell or Ferdinand with experience.

Heskey not starting in the first XI (but possibly as a squad member).

McManaman rarely performs for England, I think a better left winger needs to be found. Barmby I don't rate, but I might be tempted to play Anderton, who does play well for England, down the left, or possibly Ashley Cole on the left side and play Wayne Bridge at left back. Might be better playing someone who can tackle and cross on the left flank rather than play a specialist winger which England don't have.
