GH02 23-02-2002, 07:04:PM those teams are probably better than at least 9 teams that qualifies Youri Bakker 23-02-2002, 10:44:PM I've heard that there will be no Holland in the game. I read it at soccer.gamez.nl yesterday. Joris_SgZ 24-02-2002, 01:29:AM Yep, that's right. We contacted EA Sports and they told us they wanted to include Holland, but because of licensing problems they can't give correct rosters, kits, faces etc for the Netherlands, so they decided to not include them. Ofcourse SoccergameZ will make a patch who'll put Holland in the game. I saw on some screenshots the Equador team is also included, and tyhey didn't qualifie, so there will be some extra teams. Gabri Cazotto 24-02-2002, 06:00:AM Ecuador qualified, my friend and is in group G with Italy, Croatia and Mexico Nebo 24-02-2002, 07:20:AM Those teams will be in the game! I read that on the EA Sweden official world cup 2002 page :) Steaua Buch Fan 24-02-2002, 07:38:AM Originally posted by Nebo Those teams will be in the game! I read that on the EA Sweden official world cup 2002 page :) What about Iran? Will they? They were one lousy point away from qualifying. It would anger me if they added the others that didnt qualify and leave out Iran. redwinger 24-02-2002, 07:58:PM Holland must be in!... Can't believe they add Canada over Holland. Why don't EA include the top 10 teams in the world ranking??? Steaua Buch Fan 24-02-2002, 08:17:PM well basically they ain't just gonna put one team in the game, for instance Holland, they'll probably more and if they do Romania has to be one of them ! mns 25-02-2002, 10:59:AM in 98 they had more teams that the one qualified in the world cup, so probably these countries will be in WC 2002 Krrett 21-03-2002, 10:09:AM Why does Holandi have it was not :( what this for problems with licence , we know everybody how it was in fife 2002 , Holland has to be in world cup !!I love this team just who I will play in world cup ?? Will not play only Poland :) strobe_z 22-03-2002, 05:27:AM Holland must be in!... Can't believe they add Canada over Holland. HEy!!! Don't pick on us man! :D :D Don't get me wrong though.. Holland and Poland are my two favourite European teams.....hmm... does this mean there's been some confirmation that Canada is in the game then?? Ralf 22-03-2002, 09:49:AM I think, Poland is a better team than Canada in football. But football isn't a one sport in a world. Cadana have fantastic team in hockey (I'm fan Canadian hockey team :D - Sakic the best :p ) and Canada is the best in hockey. Krrett 22-03-2002, 09:59:AM What about this that Canada is best in hockey ?? How Polish it is best in foot ball and this it is best sport :D yet we have one's representative in Canada , and Toek Radziński from everton is him leafer01 22-03-2002, 03:26:PM Radzinsky (sp?) is Canadian with Polish background :) There are so many countries that are better than Canada it's not even funny, and if EA puts this country in, then Holland and others definitely should be in as well. strobe_z 22-03-2002, 04:15:PM Tomasz Radzinski is indeed a Canadian International of Polish descent. I'm not opening up a debate if Canada is better than this or that country in football. I think we have an underrated side (but that's another story), but I think the real question here is from EA's perspective if it's worth putting Canada in the game. Is it? I'd say yes... the North American market is a lucrative one for EA Sports.. not to have a team from a major MARKET would be a little silly. In this case the benefit is also better because licensing the Canadian national side probably is relatively cheap. It's not necessarily a question of having the best TEAMS in the game (beyond the qualified ones), but the ones that will make EA the most money! To put the Dutch side in the game is smart... but not if (as I understand it) it's too costly to get the license. The Dutch side didn't qualify for the WC.. so it isn't NECESSARY to have them. It's expensive to license them individually, and people wouldn't be happy with a 'no name' dutch team.. so why bother to spend time and money if no one's gonna be happy anyway? By the way.. I hope Poland kicks some butt at the WC.. I'm half polish and 100% Canadian! Oh.. and there's no debate... Canada IS the best country in Hockey!:D :D leafer01 22-03-2002, 04:32:PM in Canada people won't be buying the game because their country is there dude. it's sold here mostly for all the Italians and Latinos who live here, and who would buy the game. I highly doubt that people who buy this game will be playing with team Canada, instead of France, Brazil, or their country of origin. it obviously does cost more to licence team Holland than Canada, but the market in Holland is also bigger, and I'd be surprised more copies of WC2k2 were sold in Canada than in Netherlands. as for hockey, nobody is better than Russia :p Canada has Lemieux, Russia has the next Lemieux, Kovalchuk. ;) strobe_z 22-03-2002, 08:16:PM Speak for yourself.... my country of origin is Canada. That's exactly which country I want to play in the game, and would have very little interest playing with France or Brazil or any other country. Contrary to popular belief, not everyone in Canada who's interested in football has to come from somewhere else. Don't believe me? check it out Here! (http://www.canadian-soccer.com) I also didn't say that there would be a bigger market in Canada than the Netherlands for the game.... I simply said that the cost/benefit ratio would be much more favourable. If it costs $10 to put Canada in and I sell 5 games at $10... I'm making a $40 profit for very little investement. If it costs me $500 to put the Netherlands in who cares if I could sell five times (25) the games... I'd still be losing money. Russia?? ..please..............:p Ralf 23-03-2002, 06:21:AM Hmmmm, I think a Russia is a good in hockey, but not the best! Yes, they have Kovalchuk, but it is all! Canada have great team, Sakic, Yzerman, Roy, Lemieux... they are the best! I think, Czech Republic is better than Russia. I like Hajduk from Czech Republic very much :D leafer01 23-03-2002, 11:31:AM Russia has nobody other than Kovalchuk? Oh please. Fedorov, Bure, V. Bure, Yashin, Kovalev, Kovalchuk, Samsonov, Zhamnov, Yushkevich, Markov, Kasparaitis, Khabibulin, Gonchar and the list goes on and on. Czech Republic? Are you talking about the same Czech Republic that got knocked out by Russia in the Olympics? ;) And for the Canadian dude, the game will be sold in Canada whether or not team Canada is in it. The biggest market here are the immigrants who come from other countries to live in Canada, and they don't really care about team Canada (no offense). Face it, Canada doesn't have too many soccer supporters, and never will for as long as all the idiots on TV make fun of this sport. How many times have you heard Don Cherry or any other sports analyst compare soccer to ballet or some other ****? Or how many soccer games can you catch on TV? TSN used to show the Champions League, and now they are showing CURLING instead of it!! strobe_z 23-03-2002, 12:43:PM I guess I'm Canadian Dude.. I didn't say Russia wasn't good.. I just said they weren't the best!. :p As for the WC game selling mainly to recent immigrants.. I dunno about that. You're right about the media's apathy towards soccer (even though TSN does still show Champions League matches). In general they don't care. You're also right about general support for the Canadian National team. If you ever go to a game you'll see a lot of support from the local communities for whatever visiting team is here. I don't think that's evident of the support of the game here though. A LOT of kids play soccer (more than play hockey actually) and kids are the main ones buying the games. Maybe you're a 1st generation Canadian.. so maybe you have a different view of it than I do.. but I was born here and I'm 100% Canadian. To me I won't really be happy unless Canada is in the game, it's really as simple as that. Ralf 23-03-2002, 02:15:PM Ok, you are right leafer. In Poland i can't watch any NHL game in TV, couse it is in a encoded channels... The same problem in Poland is a world cup (in football of course). One channel of Polish TV decoded all games in world cup 2002, without games where play Poland team! It is awful! If I would like to watch world cup, I must buy special decoder... :( leafer01 23-03-2002, 02:23:PM I'm not a Canadian at all, but I live in Toronto, and the soccer coverage here is pathetic. I'm crossing my fingers CBC chooses to show the World Cup over some stupid 22 minutes or red green show. Last time TSN showed a CL game was before the winter break, since then all you see is some bull**** sport nobody cares about. I'm not saying there are no Canadian soccer fans out there at all, what I am saying is that a large part of people who do buy soccer games here, and people who actually play soccer, are foreigners. And since most people who buy the games in Canada aren't Canadian, they most likely will buy the game whether team Canada is in the game or not. As for hockey, in it's Olympic history, Russia didn't get any hockey medals only ONCE and that was in 94. They are the best. ;) strobe_z 23-03-2002, 09:46:PM I'm not sure of your situation leafer01 but as a non-Canadian who lives in Toronto I think you might have a different perspective than I do. I have lots of friends who are both Canadian and love soccer (I'm a little older than a lot of the people here, so most of my friends aren't into video games as much). Perhaps if you're not a Canadian but just living here you might not know how many Canadians are out there who have an interest in soccer. Like I said, I don't know your situation at all, but I know that I'm Canadian.. and that I care about the Canadian team.. and I care if it's in the game or not.. and I know I'm not alone. I do wonder how those people buying the games would feel about your blanket statement that they're not Canadian, but I'm guessing you mean more recent immigrants and not 'foreigners'. I'm not really arguing with you here though.. there's lots of people in Canada who are interested in different teams and leagues from around the world... a lot of them are immigrants to Canada, but that's the nature of the country. Heck, I was born here, but as I said I'm half Polish. Maybe that makes me a 'foreigner' by your description, but I know I'm 100% Canadian. By the way.. I don't know what's wrong with TSN in Toronto, but I watched both the Barcelona/Galataseray and Arsenal/Juventus games a couple days ago. You should check it out - the Barca game was really good! ;) |
