Issa Hayatou, said in an Interview, that if he becomes pres. of FIFA he will reduce to only 3 representatives from South America in the next WC. and increasing more reps. from Asia and Oceania.

Do you agree with this?

NO!!!! South America needs at least 4 spots, preferably 5. Asia eveything should stay the same, exept asia get's the holder's spot and the top Oceania team qualifies through the last stage of asian qualifying.

I agree with you Parra Power...South America should get 5 spots, I feel bad for the Colombian people, they had a very good squad. But now that this fellow wants to reduce the spots in South America...that really upsets me.

P.S. no offese to the Asian & Oceanian people.:D

I reckon Oceania should get one automatic and one playoff

3?! He should be committed into an asylum just for thinking it!

Everyone knows that SA needs 5 spots and that most time that isn’t enough.

I’m not saying that SA needs more spots for the WC. I’m just saying that most times a good team gets left behind even with 4 or 5 spots. Colombia had a great squad this year, just like Ecuador had in 98 both teams were unlucky to miss out.

I don't think is going to happen...if it does (don't wish it to happen), there will be a lot of conflict between top directors from each region.

i think now it is ok, there are 32 countries in the world cup
in south america chile and colombia are missing it but in europe, holland, yugoslavia and croatia are out (and they performed really well 4 years ago)

:o Croatia is in dumbas5. :P

I reckon Oceania should get one automatic and one playoff

and get their asses whopped by a lesser Asian team? Look, you guys can't even win my country, a **** one in Football called Singapore and you want another slot? LOL. 1 automatic qualifying spot is all that is required.

P.S. Those kiwis got their asses whopped 3-0 in Singapore :)

NOOO!!!! South America should have at least 4 spots, preferably 5. Oceania should combine with the Asian qualifying in some way. I like the idea of Oceania and Asia starting seperate but then the best Oceania, maybe best 2, get mixed in with the Asian qualifers in the latter stages.

I don't see why the major footballing countries should suffer to let in easy to beat teams like Australia, Qatar, etc. It would make a mockery of the World Cup. Like having a Premiership made up of Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle and a bunch of 2nd and 3rd division teams.

I don't see why they should change it, it's fine the way it is.

Politics should not be involved in football. At least I thought that was FIFAs stance seeing as they almost banned Greece for that sort of thing.

Croatia is not out, I wish they were, 'cause Mexico will play them in this coming up WC.:o

But all 3 did play well in the last WC held in France. However, Yugoslavia & Netherlands are out 'cause of their bad results...their groups were not competitive enough as compare to the SA group.

I think the toughest group to qualify to the WC is the SA group.

Finally, I agree with everything that Monkee said.:D

Holland's group wasn't competitive enough? Holland, Portugal and Ireland fought for a qualifying spot, and a playoff spot against an Asian team. That's 3 top teams fighting 1 and a half spots. And Ireland haven't lost a home game in 2 years. Holland's group was probably THE toughest group in all of qualifying. Any of those 3 teams could reach the World Cup semi final.

I'm sorry to contradict your response, but I don't believe Ireland is that good, not as good as Portugal.

Portugal is the only strong team in Netherlands' group...I just couldn't believed how Netherlands after making an excellent job in France '98 did not qualified for Japan-Korea.

well Amooballer, in South America there are 10 teams, out of those ten teams mostly all of them are very competative and good, and they play for 4 and a half spots... meanwhile in Europe Holland played Portugal, Ireland & Estonia, Cyprus & Andorra, and lets be frank, none of the last 3 teams are exacly "good" teams (no offence to anyone from those countries) and you consider qualifying from that group more difficult than qualifying from SA? For Ireland I guess it was difficult, but I'd expect Holland and Portugal to breeze thru that group.

That is Retarded!

What it would mean is that:
Argentina, Brazil - Qualify Always

Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile - All fight For ONE measley spot. Just the thought is crazy.

I don't see the logic in this. Especially now that FIFA has decided to make the World Cup winner have to go through qualifiers again, Freeing up yet another spot. Another point is that for the 2002 World Cup there are 2 host countries which get automatic spots. In 2006 there will only be 1 host country, freeing up yet another spot.

This guy is an idiot, let's just hope he loses badly! ;)

I agree w/ Ruben Sousa...I also expected Holland to qualify if not 1st, at least 2nd...as well as Portugal (which they did).

Also, my coleague from Argentina made a very good point...let's hope that bastard loses badly!!:D
