View Full Version : I'm taking up 3D Studio Max
manufan 21-04-2002, 11:56:AM After I've completed learning all the basics of Photoshop, of which I'm almost, I'm moving on to 3D Studio Max. My uncle is a pro in that, so he can help me. He even made a movie with me getting chased by a 3D dinosaur around the house!!!!:D Any suggestions on where I could learn the basics of 3dsmax?
::shinji:: 21-04-2002, 01:18:PM Hmm...Iceblu would probably be a good person to direct this question to, I know he's been using that program for a while....I've only played around with it a few times myself, but I imagine practicing with some tut's would be a good place to start learning the basics, books are also a good way to learn anything, if you have the patience that is...
IceBlu 21-04-2002, 01:34:PM hmmm......i did a course at a university last summer.....
believe me....ITS HARD.....
needs lot of practice.....and lot of patience and lot of imagination.
It has NO limits....no guidelines and no fixed set of rules.....
its just fun to mix and match and try different things...
i love the bones and stuff.......i made a shark animation once :)
the very first thing i made was an Apple :crazyboy:

Well I'm not going into animations just yet. I'm sticking to still images for now.:)
manufan 21-04-2002, 01:50:PM btw IceBlu, could you make something simple and post it here, and tell me how long it took you to make it?
Larry 21-04-2002, 05:58:PM That program sounds good, and from what ive seen, everything looks good too.
IceBlu 21-04-2002, 07:42:PM sure
this is a dolphin i made in 3DsMax.....only to find that they had already given a dolphin in their free samples
anyways...i did this a while back...took me like 1/2 an hour :S
of course i edited the background with PS for posting it here...i used it for an undwater animation ...where a shark attacks it and rips it   :( :D :crazyboy:
I've seen studio max and its totally cool! there certainly is not limints.
I am waiting on my copy from a friend :D
assathin 22-04-2002, 01:08:AM I think MAX is a good thing to get into, it's not too intimidating to new users but it's still got an endless feature list. If you're looking for good MAX tutorials, I suggest http://www.3dluvr.com . I did this lava ball from one of the tutorials on one of the 'Users' areas:
KADER 22-04-2002, 02:41:AM I am gonna *ahem get that program soon ;) I can't wait... if everything goes right, I will have it by the end of May :)
I can imagine how hard it is tho  How much space does it take up? Hopefully not more than MOHAA :monkey:

It's not too hard if you spend a lot of time on it, though I'd say that lighting and texturing are the two hardest aspects.
My current MAX installation is about 440Mb, but that's with sample scenes and stuff installed.
manufan 22-04-2002, 06:08:AM Thanks all of you, for your help.!!!!!!:) I'm just finishing up a course on Photoshop and I will start a course on 3dsmax soon.

man, that is so good! It's nice to see someone who actually makes "something" with 3d Max, unlike that over done abstract stuff a lot of people seem to make these days with that program...

assathin 22-04-2002, 11:10:PM If you really want to download it, for um "testing purposes" only, then I'd just suggest getting it from Kazaa. That way you could be sure to get the latest version (4.2). Although of course I could hardly condone such "despicable" actions..;)

assathin 25-04-2002, 06:25:AM IceBlu, is that the proper full install disk for MAX, or the 15 day demo one? Even the 15day demo doesn't include all samples tutes.
