Well, I’ve read the thread “What's So Bad WC 2002? NOTHING.” and it’s impressed me. Perhaps, u’re only one from several canadians who really like the football and have the strong opinion.
Look, if u see the opponent argument like – idiot, there is no more answer at all. It means that opponent don’t have any piece of mind. So, discuss with them – just wasting the time. For those who discussing – the wrong man who is smarter.
If ppl prefer chupa-chups to football - let them go.
I completely agree with u - WC2002 sucks or even more worse (in spite on all adjustments). Nobody can say me even a word as for gameplay – this is a bull****, especially with a tackle. It doesn’t make any f…ed difference - was it with “drunken tackle” or without.
This is not a football at all. This is, as I said, chupa-chups soccer, which suits to ppl who vaguely may recognize what the difference between ping-pong, hockey and the real one.
Do u remember WC’94, which was in the USA?
I was out of mind, when I saw the reaction of the stadium (which was mostly filled up by american
ppl ) – every time when the ball went out over the goal’s bar – they celebrated! I was wonder – what the point?
And after, it occurred to me, that they just don’t know anything about THE FOOTBALL!
They celebrate, because they think it was scoring, like in american football.
I’m sure, there were canadians also and they celebrated too without any idea what’s going on in the pitch.
Well, no wonder that EA can’t make a good football sim, (except FIFARTWC 98 with some tolerances) because they don’t know what it does and nobody from programmers played this perfect game in their childhood. They don’t know what does the ball’s feeling, good passing and dribble. They never bumped into each other during the real game. And, of course, they don’t have a good concurrence. (I’m sure, Konami will kick up their asses). All what they need – THE MONEY.
I may continue, but why? This game, I mean fifa series also, is really supposed to ppl who
doesn’t give a **** about the real football. “The real football - is too much boring”!? Forgive them…
Make happy with this sim and enjoy (smart ppl’ll understand me).

I’d like to say to EA programmers – Play the hockey, it’s much acceptable for you.

I love this number one excuse from FIFA fans about the gameplay: If you want to play real football go outside and kick the ball.

OK. I should quit playing CM and just applied for a manager position at a club.

For all you Canadians out there who are knowledgeable about ice hockey, imagine if a company just bastardize your national sports by making a mockery out of the game with unrealistic gameplay which doesn't resemble hockey. Are you going to keep buying this game years after years because the company does not care about the gameplay but rather focus on other aspect of the game that has nothing to do with ice hockey?

That's a pretty good point, because those of you who play EA's NHL series and play and follow hockey like I do know it bears no resemblance to the game.

In essence, they've taken out the grit and stoppages in exchange for more fluid gameplay. The hitting is likely the most unrealistic component and most enjoyable at the same time.

I think NHL is one of the best sports games produced, as it can be a major focal point at beer-guzzling extravaganzas. We use the liquid crystal display projector and beam it onto the side of our neighbour's house from our patio at night. There's nothing like playing video games on a screen the size of the side of a two story house when drunk. Highly recommend it.

You're right, though. None of these games really offer good gameplay. Whether that bugs you or not depends on what you demand in a game.

My own opinion is that the moderately passionate or spontaneous buyer accounts for so great a portion of overall sales that EA doesn't have to key in on the rabid soccer fan. Having said that, you'd think with people buying the title year after year (i've bought everything since RTTWC), they'd cater to the loyal buyer a little more.

Here is a simple solution. Make the game have a sim/arcade gameplay selector. Then you will get all the buyers. But maybe this is easier said than done. I seriously don't think EA can make FIFA with realistic gameplay even if they tried to. You will never know. Maybe FIFA2003 will be that game. Then again. Alot of people were hoping for this since WC98.

Great Idea. Most racing and even some jet/dogfighting games offer that choice.

Thanks for your replays, mates. I didn’t expect to see my opinion would be suitable for ones.
Gotta see EA have read it also.

OK ;) Thanks for the support. But I call it ' The Chasing Game' but I like yours better sounds funny chupa-chups :D

I am stuck with FIFA WC 2002 untill I buy a PL2. I lost my ISS CD and I am going nuts here without a football game. I have changed some of the ini file of chupa-chups so it can actually feel like soccer (football). Actually it got little better but I need to figure out how to fix that horrible, unrealistic defense line, then I will be ok untill I get my PL2.

Here something you guys should know. I don't know how hockey works, like the gameplay, strategies....., how it is been played. I used to play NHL 98. I did not care about the game play, I just played it cause I liked sports games. The point that I want to make is that I played NHL 98 just like soccer. I mean I made lots of passes back and forth, passing to my wings, took my time when I had the ball uuppss did I say ball I meant the puck at defense. I mean I played the game just like the way I played FIFA 98. :D

So most of the North Americans does not care about the game play of the soccer games (in this case the FIFA games) and because they like sport games they just play it cause it is fun to make supper headers, the glow looks cool for them after a shot of a star player ........ But a real soccer game that feels like soccer will not satisfy them, you know why because most of my friends here will not watch a full soccer game, they get bored. They don't know the feeling of opening the ball to your left, right with a passion, technic, professionaly, extreamly accurate passes. 1990 WC the Italian style of passing GANINI to DANADONI, DANADONI, BAGGIO, SCHILLACI...... I use to go nuts when the commintator calling these names and just loving to see the passings made by these players. If I had 8 hours of soccer a day I would watch it minute by minute, second by second. I am a maniac of this sport. When I have a job interview and one of the questions I will face with 'What is your goal?' Well here is the answer that I have in mind, 'To score goals in a soccer match or watch a star player scoring a goal'. And me and my bro always made fun of this issue before my job interview.

Now I understand why they like FIFA so much.

I've got to agree here.... NHL 2002 plays about as much like a real game of hockey as FIFA 2002 plays like a real game of football. The problem is, most casual fans don't like sims.. and EA Sports caters to the masses of casual fans out there - not the harcdcore fans.

If you want the real experience of football... get off your @$$ and go outside and play.

That's one of the best definitions of football I've ever read.:)
