the way i have understood the situation is PSG and liverpool have agreed to 12 million for anelka.... but if liverpool cant agree on anelkas high wage demand Kanoute is going to be snapped up and brought to anfield for about 10 million ... i would rather have kanoute because he is more flexible than anelka but either way...

dammit !!! why is Anelka so highly paid ?!?!?

maddog1983
11-05-2002, 04:59:PM
yeah 5 goals in 23 games is not enough to warant a 50 000 a week wage

IceBlu
11-05-2002, 05:01:PM
hes always expensive for some unknown reason.....

Diego Tristan is not even paid half that amount !

Buying Anelka is like buying a BMW without an engine

Anelka isn't a happy person, remember at arsenal :D

I'd take Anelka over Kanoute any day!

I'd rather get Kanoute because he's cheaper and a great player. Anelka is too overrated and highly paid. What he's asking for from Liverpool is ridiculous.

Anelka is probably the most overrated player of the world, after Becks, of course!!!:D

I tell you where Anelka isn't going: to the WC!

well alot of people said that he'd sign with liverpool!

i hope he does so liverpool have a better attack!

their are a few other players in the scenario as well , liverpool have been rumoured o have approached Marian Pahars at soton to sign for us (unlikely though) barcelona are listening to offers for Kluivert (who has said he wants to play in england at some stage... but anelka leaving and kanoute signing on seems most likely ... i like kanoute and hope we sign him over anelka ... we should give litmanen more of a go to... with kanoute we would have

Owen
Heskey
Litmanen
Baros
Mellor
Kanoute
thats enough attacking options for my liking

Amika
12-05-2002, 06:34:AM
it look more likely that we'll sign kanoute... as i think anelka is too similar to owen style of play......

I'm sorry, who the HELL is Kanoute? A mediocre striker for West Ham. The media may talk him up but he is nothing special.

Anelka has won a European Championship, the Champions League, the EPL and the FA Cup. He's 23 years old and has a tremendous upside - I don't care how much he earns because I'm not paying his wages.

The media loves to get on his case and call him a bad seed and maybe that was true at Arsenal ("Marc Overmars doesn't pass to me") - but have you heard anything bad from the Liverpool players or staff? Not a single word of negativity - the players (Murphy, Heskey and Owen in particular) have said they want him to stay, and Phil Thompson loves him too.

Another reason I'd love him to stay (beyond his ability and potential) is this; even when he's on the bench and Liverpool score he's standing up and going crazy with the coaching staff. Even today, for every Liverpool goal scored when he wasn't on, he jumped up to celebrate - compare this to one R.Fowler who, even when we won at Old Trafford for the first time in 10 years, sat there on the bench sulking and looking like his mother died while the rest of the team celebrated. Even after that game, all the players and staff went to thank the fans, but "me first' Fowler just walked off.

Anyways, Houllier will do the right thing - hell, he may even dump Nico and bring in Kanoute - but I do not think Kanoute is anything special AT ALL.

Bring on Cheryou and Diao!

He was a bad seed in Arsenal and in Real and in PSG and even in his own NT.
Go to google and do a little search using the words "Anelka" and "problem" and see how many entries you'll get!:D
Here's a sample:

Posted: Sunday March 12, 2000 01:09 PM
MADRID, Spain (AP) -- French striker Nicolas Anelka missed a third consecutive training session with Real Madrid on Sunday throwing his future with the club further into doubt.

Fernandez: Anelka can leave PSG
...
'The door is open as I don't want to keep someone against his will but there will not be any swap, no way', Fernandez said.
...
Just as at Real Madrid, Anelka has complained openly about his coach's strategy, saying he is not making any progress.

I won't argue about Kanoute's worth, because I don't know him that well, but I do know that unstable players like Anelka can jeopardize your team's chemistry.
And he can jump around in the bench as much as he wants to (although I do admit that's a good sign), because if that counted for anything then Liverpool would sign Javier Sottomayor.
What matters is that he's still as greedy as he's ever been.

And yes, you should care about how much he earns. If you've ever played in a team, you'll know that big salary discrepancies are a potential source of problems and envies. What are you going to say to an Owen, who busts his a$$ every time he walks in the field, scores the goals and carries Liverpool on his shoulders, but sees this guy, who earns a bigger salary, do nothing else than jumping around in the bench?

You make some solid points, but Houllier would not even give Anelka a chance on loan if he thought he would be 'trouble' - this is a manager who had no fear or hesitation in allowing Robbie Fowler to leave, despite the fact that Fowler was one of the most popular players at the club - he even benched the man the Liverpool fans used to call "God" after he refused to appologize to Phil Thompson. Houllier comes across as a nice guy but he is ruthless in the bottom line and won't accept any dissenting voices - look at how he cleared out players like Ince, and he didn't exactly beg McManaman to stay. Hell when felt Sander Westerveld just wasn't taking his game to the next level he replaced him in an instant - with Dudek. Besides, these rumours of his extravagant contract demands are just that - rumours, and I won't believe them until I see something on the official site or a quote direct from his mouth because one of the sites that says that Anelka wants 70,000 a week (Soccernet) are also saying Inter are going to buy Ian Harte from Leeds and earlier said that Arsenal were going to buy Trezuget for 50 million pounds......

I also honestly believe that Anelka has changed - his brothers may have not, but the fact that he is getting along so well with the coaching staff and players is a good sign. And not to lament these 'poor' millionaire football players, but I can understand perhaps why Anelka had problems earlier in his career. At Arsenal they called him moody, but he was a 17 year old French kid leaving in an English speaking city alone - in that first double winning side at Arsenal there weren't as many young players his age as there are at Liverpool now. Likewise at Real he was 21 years old playing for the biggest team in the world, with the biggest stars - and maybe not all youngsters can handle the spotlight like Raul. Even at PSG, he was under a lot of pressure because of the transfer value and the reputation he had built up of being a 'difficult' player.

Now I'm not making excuses for him - if he was a true professional he should be able to handle these things without criticising a coach - but he is still a kid. He's only 23 years old - I don't think he represents damaged goods at 23, he can change his attitude and I think the fact that he was thrown away by PSG and now by the French National Side may have hit home with him, that he has to shut up and take his career seriously - and by all indications at Liverpool he has been doing this.

I remember when he was still playing for Arsenal and France played England and he basically ripped England apart at Wembley - this is the same player, and I hope he stays at Liverpool and achieves that same level of play again next season.

you make some good points but some things you say you ridicule soccernet ie trez going to arse and ian harte going to inter but then you say his brothers are still causing trouble (surely if his wage demands are rumours then so are his brothers active in volve ment ....) their is so much that can happen between now and next season i think the gaffer knows what he's doing and we'll have a very good squad next season :)

yeah as we have spoken about before berger, biscan, smicer (although he played alright last night), macca has left... it could be a different squad... remembering that hamann, gerrard, riise will always be picked.

Houllier is one of my fave coaches and I sure hope he knows what he's doing. Anelka seems to be making an effort to change, but still he's too much of a risk, both financially and sportively. He has talent, but I wouldn't pick him. Man, he even gave me problems in my Championship Manager game!!!:D

Me too!! I am no fan of his. But I got him quite cheap and his attributes were fantastic. He played really well alongside van Nistelrooy for one and a half season. Then suddenly he wouldn't come to training and I tried to reprimand him. And then the baby won't stay with me any longer. Put me on the transfer list, he said . Ok I said and sold him to Dortmund for 28 millions!!:D

I don't think Liverpool would sign Cissé. Auxerre wants around £15 million. Liverpool's transfer record was £11 million for Heskey and it's tough to break that. I do hope Liverpool signs him, but Cissé himself said that he doesn't want to leave Auxerre and Auxerre certainly won't want him to leave Auxerre.

I hope so bro! Even though it was just a friendly, Cisse shone again last night for France - I hope we buy him now because after the World Cup not only will he be worth a lot more, a lot more teams will be interested!
