View Full Version : Spain to win World Cup
erno_kivinen 30-05-2002, 08:09:AM What do you guys here think about Spain's chances of winning the World Cup in Japan and Korea? Yeah, I know. Everyone's written them off this time.
However, the press and the pundits have tipped them for glory ever since the World Cup in USA in '94, but Spain have always performed below par. Everyone seems to think the team is totally hopeless.
This time it will be a different story. Iker Casillas in goal will have to prove he should still be Real's number one 'keeper, Hierro is as commanding as ever, Mendieta will shine after his disappointing season at Lazio, Valeron will show just why he is rated higher than Djalminha and Raúl, Diego Tristan and Morientes will get the goals Spain need to win.
Internazionale 30-05-2002, 08:20:AM I really admire Spain national team. They have well-balanced team overall. Winning the WC ? I'd say they would be Semi-Finalists this time. :)
Can't stop the rush... 30-05-2002, 10:28:AM muahahaha
I like the way you think erno.:D
bloke 30-05-2002, 11:39:AM They should be able to win their group easy.
Hopefully this time they will perform better than in 98.
monkee 30-05-2002, 11:34:PM They're one of the teams that I wouldn't mind seeing win the competition and I think maybe this time they've got a chance. But then I thought that at France 1998. However, they've always been under pressure to do something, this time people are expecting them to be underachievers again so there's less pressure.
juventusita 31-05-2002, 10:17:AM For some reason I feel like they will step up this World Cup, but they won't win it.

You are Dreaming!!!!
I think the same, Your Dreaming!
Have u seen the French Squad . . . its awsome, I haven't seen a better squad in the world! let alone the WC. If France don't win the cup then something would be definately WRONG!
Ubik Valis 01-06-2002, 02:33:AM never say never in football :brow:  :crazyboy: :mambo: :D

Yeah, i've seen them... seen them be outclassed by a first time World Cup team Senegal.
I think that game proved that France is really just Zidane.

Grassy, sometimesu make me worry...:p
Player for player, I really think Brazil have the best squad. Assuming both team used 4-4-2, with a diamond mid (which brazil wont, but anyway..), compare these players.
GK-Barthez-Marcos:No comment, im definatley not a big Barthez fan
CB-Leboeuf-Lucio :Pretty close here, hard to say
CB-Desailly-Edmilson: Ok, I admit Desailly is better.
LB-Lizarazu-Roberto Carlos: Im afraid, that Roberto Carlos is better here, although i do like Liza
RB-Thuram-Cafu:Close, but i have to say Cafu gets this one, just!
CDM-Vieira-Emerson: Another relatively close one, but France have to win this im afraid.
LW-Djorkaeff/Duggary-Denilson: Well if Pires was there, this would be close, but he's not, so its not. Denilson for mine..
RW-Wiltord-Juninho:Again, i think Juninho wins here, pretty close though this one..
CAM-Zidane-Rivaldo:Who dares split, the two players widely regarded as this era's best? well i do. I think Zidane here, but its very close!
St-Henry-Ronaldo:In form, it wouldnt matter who u chose here. They are both great players. On current form, Id have to say Henry, but on what we know the player can produce, then Ronaldo wins. On this instance, we'll go with Henry
St-Trezeguet-Ronaldinho:Again, very hard to split, and it would come down to who they are playing with, and how well they play with those people. Undecided
So grassy, ur French team on paper is very good, but i think ur going over board. THere is nothing wrong if they dont win the World Cup. It happened to Brazil in '98! ;)
Personally i dont think they will, esp. after the game tonight! People will say it was because Zidane was there, but really can one player be that big a difference? France just couldnt do anything with the possesion they had. They actually played very similar to how Australia did during the World Cup qualifiers in my opinion, and that definatley doesnt work.
Anyway, im rambling again...
Cheers

erno_kivinen 03-06-2002, 07:47:AM SPAIN 3 SLOVENIA 1
Phew. At least they won their first game. You see this thread was started by me....
About the message above I just have to say that Lúcio is way better than Leboeuf. Don't you know that Lúcio is a world class player!!! Leboeuf is old, clumsy and slow and he was having trouble keeping up with the Senegalese attack. He's still a fine player though, but nothing compared to Lúcio.
And I thought Wiltord was a striker. Why the hell is Wenger at Arsenal and Lemerre of France playing him on the wing? OK so maybe there's not a real right winger always available but still...
J.D.Love 03-06-2002, 12:33:PM shouldev been 2-1 for Spain, but I tell you that ref was biased.
and oh as long as a new team wins the cup, ill be happy, so yeah ... um.. go spain, just dint get in our way, muahahahaha!

I worry u? I am not even trying yet :p
I will eat my words for now . . . but I have one of three choices for the cup, France, Italy or Argentina . . .
They lost, I accept that, to Senegal, I'll accept that (was going for senegal btw :D) but if u can't ride them off . . . .
they can do anything on thier day, and senegal played a 9 man defence :mrpimp: . . . hmmmm they did their homework.
Larry 03-06-2002, 01:44:PM they wil reach the semis or lose the final
